I always thought Rapeseed oil was bad for us?
O a television programme it's just come out as the best for unsaturated fats!
Is this correct ... does anyone know

Throughout the years I have been told to eat unsaturated fats, such as Palm oils, Rapeseed and other forms of unsaturated fats including vegetable oils, are really bad for me. I can only have saturated fats. These are natural fats that don't make you fat.
I have no other conditions unless I have carbs and unsaturated fats.

One of the reasons for this is that these oils are not designed to help with your health.
And of course cause inflammation. Which is one of the reasons blood glucose levels go higher, then prediabetes and eventually Type two.

They say that certain oils help with cholesterol (adverts) but as usual, the thing they don't say is, with a dietary controlled lifestyle. It's in the small print.
So you can have these oils, you can only have a very small amount of food with it.
I'd rather go lchf, than have to resort to oils.

Just to say, most of us have never seen the process to get rid of these oils after use.
Why do we need to separate everything else from these oils and have a specialist company that is licensed to recycle them? It stinks and dries like a fat burger in the sewers.

I would review the reason we need these oils, we don't, but because of the growing number of people who won't eat animal products, this is a cheap alternative.
And keeps a lot of farmers and growers around the world happy.

Palm is mostly saturated fat, like coconut oil right? Red palm and coconut oils are in my diet, as long as they are cold pressed. Also cold pressed avocado, olive, linseed are okay in my book. It’s the highly refined stuff that’s bad.. imho

Eating too much saturated fats in your diet can raise "bad" LDL cholesterol in your blood, which can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. "Good" HDL cholesterol has a positive effect by taking cholesterol from parts of the body where there's too much of it to the liver, where it's disposed of. is that correct??

It was on Channel 5 tonight - Secrets of your Supermarket Food. I had to turn it off as they were saying fat was bad for you and you should watch the calories you eat. And we all know that they talk rubbish.
I agree what you say about the fat but I definitely have to watch the calories. My 2 week holiday on the broads has proved that - still stayed low carb but lots of little low carb treats I don’t normally eat have left me a few pounds heavier

is that correct

Not really.. LDL can go up but that doesn't necessarily means it's "bad".

Also we eat "food" not "saturated fat" ...almost all foods if not all have all three fats in them sat, poly-un and mono-un but in different proportions.

Sorry gave up after 5 minutes of total dross..

Which tv prog..?

And how was it rated as "best"
Ben (Bikman)& Ted (Naiman) 's Excellent Adventure
This was a deep dive which touches on the current low carb anti seed oil mania. Spoiler alert they don't rate processed seed oils but don't believe they drive metabolic dysfunction.

So when I first started down the keto path, I put coconut oil, heavy coconut cream on everything lol. I told my doc about what I was doing, he said, yeah you’re cholesterol will probably be high. Every lipid panel he gave me was well into the normal range. So my weight loss stalled after about 30kg in. Since then I’ve been pulling on the fats lever and I’m dropping weight again.

I guess some people may respond differently, my diet is data driven, doc is happy about my numbers. If something changes, I’ll adjust my diet.

Definitely one to watch thanks..They may not drive metabolic dysfunction but they certainy won't help it recover either.
I still can't see any benefit over animal fats.

Yes and Ben and Ted agree with you! Ted thinks they are junky calories rather than being as toxic as fructose. Ben's agnostic as he stays in his insulin/glucagon lane. Interesting to see the differences between a clinician and research scientist.

Ted just can't seem to get out of the CICO mindset though (even though he uses the "energy imbalance" phrase a lot .. which is a shame and his blanket generalisations can get a bit annoying..
As for seed oils I'm more a Tucker Goodrich and Raphael Sirtoli fan..

Does anyone actually like them apart from Darius Mozzafarian I wonder..

It’s not quite so simple.

My ldl fell when I ate loads more saturated fats, but cut carbs. I am not alone.
ldl is calculated usually, not measured, and if low carb the assumptions made are not accurate.
Ldl can have different particle sizes and different effects. Small dense and potentially harmful or large buoyant and potentially beneficial. Rarely checked which a person has and again low carb usually promotes the large fluffy safe ones.

That's great that you are doing it under doc's supervision, i know few people who tried following keto with heavy intake of saturated fat and worsening their lipids profile

I must say that those of us doing that on here tend to have the reverse result (see my signature for my own details).

Have a look at this.

FWIW my lipid profile is "improving" as far as the medics are concerned following
a) an increase in fat (and protein) in my diet
b) a decrease in carbs
c) some weight loss.

I also knew one person who claimed to be following a keto diet - he had upped his fat and protein intake but was still eating fruit, starchy carbs and grains (reason: as they are "healthy"). Unsurprisingly that sort of non-keto diet really doesn't work.

Most of us that have followed keto have had the reverse experience. Define worsening?

Where are you getting your info regarding keto and lipids? Some bloggers have some strange ideas, not based in fact.
