Hi Matt and welcome to the forum. You’ve come to the best place for advice and support.
I take Metformin but it’s a very mild drug, you will need to change your diet too to have any great effect on lowering your blood sugars. Most of us that have had success in returning non diabetic numbers have done so by following a low carb diet, and no, it’s not all rabbit food, think bacon and eggs, fish, seafood, dark chocolate and cream, amongst other lovely foods!
Another thing a lot of us do is invest in a blood glucose meter to measure before and after meals to see how we are doing. We can advise on economic meters if you want.
Ask any questions you like here, there’s no such thing as a stupid question.

Edit for typo

Totally true. I would have been lost without mine - seriously.

I'm assuming that you are a Type 2 diabetic so here is a link to Jo Kalsbeek's wonderful nutritional thingy :
The Nutritional Thingy. | Diabetes Forum • The Global Diabetes Community

There are several paths to Type 2 diabetes remission ; Low Crab, crash diet (800calories per day), longer term Fasting or Bariatric Surgery. Medicine alone is hardly ever known to work, which gives most GPs the impression that Type 2 is progressive and irreversible.
I am/was a slim Type 2known as TOFI (Thin outside, Fat Inside), so naturally I chose the Low carb method. Low carb is a way of eating - not a diet since no need to restrict calories but still lose weight .

If you want to try Low Carb a Blood Glucose Meter will really help. The SD Gluco Navii is the best value low cost one, closely followed by the Spirit Healthcare TEE2+ . Both are available online. It's the test strips that are the largest expense because you will want to be testing before and the 2hrs after first bite of every meal at first until you can predict the glucose rise for most of your meals.
You want to try for rise from before eating to the 2hr mark of at most 2.0mmol (don't worry about it at other times, control what you can which is what you eat).

You will certainly have more questions - just ask, there are lots of experts (and lots of newcomers ) here.

Thank you both ... still trying get my head around it and thank god its not all rabbit food lol
I gave funny

But it was how I felt too.

If you like meat, it is meals fit for a king.

If vegan many others can tell you good taste & great meals are well within the poorest cooks grasp

But baby steps

My DX was 58 aug 2018
At Oct I found this site . so you best me there

I slowly dipped a toe then an ankle then fully immersed.

By Jan 2019 I was back at 42....
And June 2019 I was back at 40.

No longer in the T2D range, though I still am T2D.

Hope, help & ideas are here in abundance for anyone willing to try., No matter how slowly You dip yourself in, even at my slow pace .

Kudos to your nurse, wish I'd of had her day one

We all pick our own route, but the journey end point is the same

Better health
By eating better food.
And taking better care of
Ourselves.
Sounds too simple to be true.
Yet read the success pages or people's signatures under their posts for proof it is possible.

Best wishes &
Good luck on the
Road back to
Good health
