What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Thank you for the art compliment @dunelm

I do not use rapeseed oil either, not in cooking oils, but rapeseed oil is already in pretty much everything in packets and tins here and already in frozen stuff. It is unavoidable. I was going to buy some sliced ham, on Saturday from the chiller section. One of the listed ingredients was rapeseed oil. I put it back. The same with the liver pâté , that also had rapeseed oil in.

Rapeseed oil is also now in cakes and chiller sweet treats, and in Christmas cake.

My local fish and chip shop, where I get some fish as a treat sometimes, I was very ill with bad diarrhoea after getting half way though the fish. I went back to the fish and chip shop a few days later and asked if they used rapeseed oil for frying. She said yes, and that most fish and chip shops do now, she told me.

I cannot have peanut oil or anything with peanuts in, because I am allergic to peanuts.
I am going to be more vigilant now about “oil” in the ingredients lists so thank you for bringing this up.

I understand @Granny_grump_
I find it harder to get straight to this thread now the site has been updated. I have Android and Apple devices. Each device has a slightly different way to get into the site. And the layout is different on the different devices.

I am 73 years old, so I am a batty old biddy!

I use the app on one device, it is my pixel 3a phone, it gets me in this thread easier, but I don't like the layout of it at all in that device to respond to posts.

I have something set up on my old iPad Pro, and I have no idea precisely how I did it. The left side of the screen which says a load of things including 'watched threads'. I click on that and it brings me here. I have already, from before the site updated recently, had this as a watched thread.

Maybe someone else can explain this better than I can.

Yes, you need time to get round it. But hey, you are only 3 years older than me, so still a spring chicken !!!
I was ten when you were born, your just a youngster gennepher!

Morning all. Some people's morning has definitely not been good so far by the sounds of it Rosington Rozzington Bear. D-Ream anyone? @gennepher hug for the rapeseed oil issue. The tins of fish we buy are either in spring water or olive oil but I'll check more thoroughly. Thank you for the video and creative. @dunelm thank you for the art which as usual has become a thing of wonder once the colour is added. Best wishes for the medical event later. @lindisfel the whole issue you raise is a minefield but it does you great credit to be so mindful of how we care for God's creation. Thank you all for the kind words on JKP's progress. @Krystyna23040 great fbg and I'm with Mr K on the result and performance of England yesterday. Not helped by the Woolwich Nomads winning and Spurs being so Spursy either. Today is damp and dull here and my quest for gut microbiome friendly, blood glucose friendly, wallet friendly but even vaguely enjoyable food moves right along. To which end I took advantage of JKP being in the same room to ask her to buy Tim Spector's latest book from Amazon. Will we be intrepid enough to stop buying the Ks and make our own after all the Diet Dr/ you must try this recipe inspired horrors? I think Toyah - Lyrics - was Martin Peters like in her forward vision concerning what to eat and the Greenwashing going on. Despite everything there still remains the possibility that you may have a great day. Can the MAGA crew be thwarted? Will the (really, really, really, really ....) Dark Lord return? Sometimes it's the hope that kills but then I remember - It's Friday but Sunday's coming. Advent is round the corner, Great O Antiphons and all.
Thank you @ianpspurs - now investigating the word “aorta” with a sheep’s heart from the butchers pinned to the bread board (oops!). Glad you chose a book by Tim, rather than his nut job, gun toting namesake who died last year. Mind you, he could have shoehorned a one word credit! Toya video - a reminder that there was life before plastic body parts.

An uncle just has just had a TAVI - my phone insists on auto correcting to Tavistock. Hope you don't need one but he's recovered well. As for Phil Spector, his Christmas Album is THE gold standard - Santa Claus is coming to town is the dogs thingamejigs. Too early for ya? Lyrics

That whole album is Christmas gold!.. The Nat and Dean Christmas album is another of my faves for Christmas.

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and all who had a cheeky India takeaway last night. Naughty, but life is for living.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.9 considering what I ate last night a good result.

Processed fats. A real problem for me, but what works and what doesn't is still work in progress for me, throw into the mix my medication and we are back to that simultaneously equation with multiple unknowns.
Whoops pressed enter before I had finished, now I’ve forgotten what words of wit and wisdom I was going to write, must be an age thing.
Stay safe all
Wow!! 5.9!! What a great result after an Indian takeaway!!!... Did you have rice? I tried a small portion of rice the other day and it spiked 2.0, so not doing that again in a hurry. Pasta was surprisingly a much smaller increase for a similar quantity. I asked an Indian friend about alternatives, and he suggested Roti's. Now searching for a low carb Roti recipe!

Not sure whether to post this here, or in "What have you eaten today". So here goes again.

FBG: 7.5 with new swipey not yet 24 hours old.

Had already decided if it was raining heavily, I would bail on golf for 4th time in a row but last night, chum I met up with over the weekend said she had tested positive for the dreaded C.

Seeing as I have work (have taken a part time job as a Marshall at my golf club) I now need to go find some tests to see if I can actually do my shift. I did have a dry cough on Sunday but put it down to getting soaked at the fireworks display on Saturday. Chum had dry cough and tested. Mind you my cough has gone but better to be safe than sorry!

Also - seeing family tomorrow (although slight niggle here is that my cousin’s husband refuses to get jabbed) so I feel a duty of care to not pass anything on (even though he believes that as he has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which can be a symptom - he will be fine!!)
He also cheerfully tells me my DNA is scrambled - so in mean time I look forward to turning into a velociraptor and starring in the next Jurassic World movie!

Effectively means that computers, phones and any device with a processor becomes obsolete every 18 months to two years because something more awesome, powerful, shiny and bright is available. Jason Fung is venerated as a diabetes guru. Moore's law. Jason Fung
Oh him! One of the IF fanatics lived and breathed by what he says and woe betide anyone who doesn’t agree so I pay him no mind at all! (Fung … blocked the other dude yonks ago!)

IF doesn’t work for everyone and I have made my peace with how I manage the big D …

From the nighttime wildlife camera in my garden.

Cat watching Cat (the eyes in the second half...)

Cat Midnight is watching cat Jade. Then Jade goes into the bushes and her eyes are watching Midnight sleeping on the swing...

Midnight is sleeping with me all night and keeps me toasty warm. I don't have to put the electric blanket on. So, he is actually earning his keep!
The only snag to him being indoors at night is that he needs to toilet outside. But not every night. I lock the inner door from kitchen to the rest of the bungalow because any wild beasties or stray cats who come in through the cat flap to steal Midnight's supper, cannot enter the rest of the bungalow. But it's not so bad as I need to toilet in the night much more than Midnight does! But what I was thinking of doing, which is what I did for Popeye, was make a sheltered cat tray (of earth from the garden) about two metres away from the cat flap, so that in very inclement weather he can scoot out, deposit, and scoot back in through the cat flap. Popeye had that down to a fine art in terms of time management...

Creative is a painting of Autumn again in Procreate...
It is a bit more winterish this one. I fancied a change!

Time for a cuppa.

Have your best day!

Good morning everyone it’s another damp start here in the dark and dangerous north but hopefully will just stay overcast. 5.6 on the jaggy bonnet of despair and japes. Never mind. I dragged some low carb bread kicking and screaming out of the freezer, drizzled with olive oil and garlic and shoved onto the griddle - a sort of bruschetta. Freezing and heating lowers the carb loading. Can you make meatballs out of Heck sausages - yes you can. Some tomatoes and basil - pass the wine dahrlings. Exercising after eight bells seems to be good for insulin resistance, Afternoon exercising
Art bit - another one outlined. Have a wonderful day if you can. My koffy is really.

Zoom meeting this morning helps one mix in this 'post' COVID world.

Marjorie is still waiting for biopsy results on her leg. Having the family 130 miles away makes it difficult for us as we get older, but John from church has given us loads of support these last few years but he is having a much needed new knee today. God bless you John.
How one managers increasing physical disabilities of age is problematical but what it is like for those who are poor and can't eat properly or warm their houses is a shame in a so called rich country.
D.
