What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone from another overcast start here in the dark and dangerous north. Lots of talk of inflation now being above 11% and what with the world population now estimated at over 8 billion, best get your orders in for Christmas quickly. Of course, if you’re not that bothered, just wait until Christmas eve and get something from the local garage. Coal, logs and such like might make thoughtful gifts this year.
Art bit - colour added - no Idea why I used red, I shall blame it on November for whispering nine and coming in at a confusing eleven. What have the Romans ever done for us? Have the best day that you can. I must drink koffy and contemplate putting bins out tonight.

A very self depreciating description @Annb ..,but I know that feeling .

I suppose, the docs description makes sense, there is only so much room inside us, after all.

I was horrified when I started reading up on T2D & how our internal organs would become fatty before our bodies ran out of space and began storing the excess around our middles.

Another not sure how more meals helps that or indeed what 'small' actually is, either.

I hope you find some clarity & benefit to any changes.

Apologies if I missed it, but unsure if you mentioned any particular breathing issues ?

An old tip, but as a life long asthmatic (aged 11) my breathing has always been an issue.

And while LCHF has reduced the issue almost to non existent I did still have issues & attacks prior to my type 2 diagnosis.

To whit I found ginger tea to be a real aid.

If you haven't made it
Here's a simple recipe.

Fresh ginger, cut into small slices, (think slicing an onion into rings )
Place in water until boiling.
Let simmer 10-15mins.
Drain & serve once cooled
(I don't peel it, but you could if desired )

Drink just like tea, but ginger has great properties re bronchial system & lungs.

I have also found a salt pipe useful.
Akin to the old bowl of steam & a towel.

I hope some resolution to the breathing comes swiftly.

Such a basic need, yet all to easy to take for granted, until you can't catch your breathe so easily.

Kind wishes.

Ah well. Never mind. I've put a couple of slices in the freezer already, so it will be another failed experiment.
I freeze potatoes, crumpets, anything carbs @Annb
It does work for me.
But key is the portion control as well.
So, one crumpet, and not every day, every other day.
A very small portion of potato.
Again these kind of carbs only every other day.
Hope this helps x

Still experimenting with foods.

The birds have started nicking the cat food again (like they did last winter).
I forgot the other day to mention the pair of blackbirds (male&female) that also fly with the sparrows. It is a motley assortment of birds, but they seem to comprise the 'family' of birds that will inhabit my garden this winter. And they all get on, bar an occasional squabble among the sparrows.

On YouTube is my latest wildlife nighttime trail cam video.
The way the cat, Midnight, starts expanding his back, making himself even bigger, you can tell he is getting ready to hiss and clout the fox. But the fox sensibly is wary and backs away...but keeps a constant watchful eye open for that cat now he has vanished.

Creative is a digital painting in Procreate.
Two brushstrokes were used - Snowgum and Leatherwood.

I woke up ate this morning, cats and birds were waiting for food (one of these days those sparrows will come pecking at the window when the fatballs run out). And the new kid on the block - ghost cat number 2. It is a tiny skinny thing, bedraggled. And has suffered in the rain recently. She (?) is a much older cat (9/10?) and waits at the kitchen door for breakfast. Finally I made a shelter by the kitchen door where she can sit in the dry, and eat in the dry.

I need a cuppa and a nap after sorting this lot out.

It is like running a zoo...

Have a good day.

Had my slice of frozen/toasted bread, so the experiment is under way. Another half hour will get me to the 2 hours stage. At present BG is 8.6. Before breakfast it was 10.7, but it did that yesterday as well. We shall see.

Logs for Christmas would be a great idea. Might just follow up on that.

Starlings have definitely moved in to the eaves here - a ventilator above the kitchen window fell out and we would replace it if only we knew that the birds weren't there. We waited for them to hatch their brood, then they came back and we thought maybe they had a second brood, but it appears not. the adult birds come and go frequently though, so I can only think tht they have decided it is a good place to spend the winter.

Something nice and warm beckons from the far end of the corridor, reflecting on the ground and inviting you in. Is it a trap? Will something open up in the floor when you stand on it? Will something drop down from that sloping, ruined roof? Be very wary.

Yes, those starlings have adopted you, lock stock and barrel @Annb

Good morning everyone which it obviously isn't for everyone except in that we are all present if neither totally correct nor woke in the contemporary sense. Yesterday was rainy, dark and distinctly cool here but today is at least dry. Another negative LFT (RATS would have been better) so thanks be to God. Interesting issues of what and how much to eat, which are currently of major importance for a few in this thread,. This morning I was - probably virtue signalling which for me I think is all IF/LC may actually be - thinking how perverse it is for me to be spending so much time deliberating about the macronutrients, nutes, vits and timing of meals when millions in the uk and worldwide wonder if they will eat or drink anything at all. I'm certain me letting my T2 rip will not fill a single empty belly though. Staying above ground and helping if I can plus praying is my plan for that*. Freezing carby food and crumpets? Didn't The Threadfather used to have much lower fbg the mornings after - unfrozen- crumpets? @dunelm you have excelled yourself with that masterpiece thank you so much. Coal as a Christmas present? Allegedly the homesteaders of wild Alaska think that is just the job - have chainsaw will log sorts the log issue. @gennepher we have wooden furniture but modern uk houses are largely chimney free zones so no open fire or stove here but watch this space. Elsewhere as if the world wasn't in enough trouble Trump feels we need more. Many in this Close may be cheered by that but the prospect of him being POTUS again does appear to me like something out of the dark side of Daniel's dreams or Revelation. Do what you gotta do today ever mindful of Psalm 31 V15*.

Gennepher thank you for the video and creative which again hints at brighter times ahead - hopefully for us all. You are so generous with your time and resources both to those animals and, from what your posts reveal, humans . Meanwhile the venerable 4 x 4 passed the MOT within my pre-agreed spending limits and is currently having and air suspension issue investigated. That issue was previously resolved by a highly trained mechanic whacking it with something called a hammer. I’m not technically minded but I trust the experts. Another family issue which has consumed much of my time for a week has been resolved as I prayed for. Thanks be to God. Have a song
. I like the Woody Guthrie version but this is a famous one. The original writer and singer Steve Goodman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Goodman has a sad story. Off topic but I don’t actually care just now. @Annb phew, I wondered if I was pushing my luck with the starling poem. Not being able to use hyperlinks here is a right pain.

I always thought that starlings stayed together in flocks and roosted together in trees, where they could, but this pair seem to be odd-bods. Quite suitable then that they have decided to take up residence with us. In recent years, the variety of birds coming here seems to be diminishing - even the sparrows are fewer in number than they used to be. We are left with crows, those few sparrows, a thrush or 2 a couple of blackbirds and the starlings. Oh yes, and greylag geese, of course earlier in the year. I did see a robin a few weeks ago, but it disappeared again. We don't even see gulls any more - the big black backed gulls used to nest in the field across from our kitchen window but it must be a couple of years at least since I've seen one. We also used to watch dog-fights between herring gulls and crows, but no more - the crows have the field to themselves. Haven't seen a waxwing for years - they used to come in regularly and strip our cotoneaster bushes of berries. Haven't seen a rock dove or a collared dove this year either. Don't know where they've all gone.
