What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone, a bit late today but there were kitchen duties to attend to - a not coq au van to prepare and put into the slow cooker. A not coq au van is made with chicken rather than a proud cockerel and has no wine in it. According to our latest local news sheet shoved through the door last night, we have an ice sculpture trail to look forward to on 17th so we are looking forward to seeing that. Art bit - a new outline. Hope that everyone has as good a day as you can. I have already had my koffy.

Spoiler alert, blather incoming from a cold, misty, bone chilling Eastern region. So, here’s a term I use frequently and a gentle rebuke for laziness in so doing https://www.theguardian.com/comment...mp-mainstreaming-gaslighting-word-of-the-year. But peace be with you when people are eating dog food or going cold and hungry seems totally inadequate, How does that make those in war torn places safer, feed, water, clothe, heat or cool them, put a penny in the pockets of key workers, recruit more nurses, doctors or ambulance crews? How am I supposed to react to what I'm being told to believe about TINA? The funding and administration of my own care shows the kindness of strangers far more directly. It is Advent, so for balance if I look carefully for the rays of bright, pure light shining brightly like that wonderful creative of your's today I see them.@gennepher. There are amazing, bright candles from the fight, courage, determination, in a word love and against all logic, joy and hope glowing from every sinew of Rob Burrow, Doddie Weir, Dame Deborah James and so many others. Not just ex-international athletes stripped of previous glory but blessed by a new, greater one. All are or were very special people. That doesn’t mean illness or disability don’t impact everyone hugely. I see that vividly these days and read it in the subtext here daily, For me I realise Elsie isn't in the same league of loss or struggle. Have some poetry and art instead of my drivel https://malcolmguite.wordpress.com/blog/ Enjoy your day safely even after reading that but be careful with power saws and predictive text.

Thank you @ianpspurs

Predictive text is the bane of my life at the moment, because as I correct it, it then proceeds to change the whole meaning of my sentence before I have finished my correction, which by the way was the correct word initially but predictive text decided I meant to write another word and substituted my initially correct word. At this point, I have no idea what I originally wrote.

I hadn't heard of the term gaslighting before this. But I see that it comes from the 1930's film "Gaslight". How is anyone supposed to know the meaning? Another one of those unfortunate, modern terms which actually mean very little, or very much, depending on how you see them. Manipulating/Manipulative is a good one though. Quite a few manipulative people around these day. I suppose there always were.

Probably more widely used by Millenials who feel they have been victims of this. I sympathise and feel some guilt for being an unwitting useful idiot in the latter years by peddling false belief in the value of formal education. What about DARVO which comes from the same playbook and is equally sinister? - https://dynamic.uoregon.edu/jjf/def...s for "Deny, Attack, whistle blower -- into an. Of course we have a simple word for both of these but certain groups use litigation to shut down the means to debate/investigate the truth - asymmetric justice?. Those dogs look wonderful and sympathy for Em and her peers on these cold, dark mornings and evenings. Our two granddaughters, born a week apart in August, are struggling at the end of their first term at school. Too young and just pooped IMHO.

I could watch anything I wanted, subject to knowing how to operate the remote control, the remote control is in the same mental box as the washing machine, un fathomable and a black art. Give me quantum physma plasics any day.
Totally agree as to the unfathomable nature of the black box devices. It takes three of them to operate our TV so I have no chance on ever understanding how they work.

Methinks AJ is pulling our collective pud. Arf, arf, guffaw, belly laugh, chortle wheeze. Would Alexa, Siri, Google etc or a voice activated remote make life easier?

Oh so funny Ian P Spurs, if only Mrs J could confirm, she would. I have a huge dis interest in learning how these devices work and I have a huge loathing of most of the programs on the idiot box.

I apologise for impugning you. Very hard to detect seriousness/tone from posts devoid of facial, body language or vocal cues. You have a unique slant on life which I found an acquired taste. You're probably saying ditto. What's with idiot box and people of a mechanical/engineering background? I've known a few who use that phrase and I really struggle to concentrate on what they say thereafter. I think I'm learning to deal with Alfisms. Of course nobody has any idea what percentage of people's posts are just mischievous. Against all my instincts I find you quite amusing and endearing, at least virtually. Not sure how we'd go in real life. Take care.

The original remote control for my little TV in the kitchen broke about 5 years ago so I bought one of those "universal" ones. So far, I have learned to turn the TV on, to mute or adjust the sound and to change channels. Last week Em showed me how to get information about the current channel but there are lots of other buttons on it that I cannot fathom and can't try to use, in case I can't get back to my starting point. It feels a bit like my close-to-number-blindness; kind of techno-blindness.

You are totally forgiven, oh the times we have crossed swords over the different threads and years, but still we carry on and long may it continue, yes we have different views on life, but surely that is the point. Nice guess on the mechanical/engineering background, but you missed out physics and a couple of other occupations, which if I list would get me into trouble with the moderators again.
As long as the Alfisims bring a smile what more can one ask.
Stay safe

Predictive texting has very nearly lost me some of my older ladies (hair dressing), who have mobiles etc silver surfers :banghead:
