What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

We were meant to go to a carol concert at the Methodist Church down the road. Sadly we can't go as we have both been a bit under the weather this week and don't want to pass it on. Mr K is worse as he has more of a sore throat than I have - luckily Covid tests are negative.

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. @dunelm sorry to read your sister is under palliative care.

Blood sugars this morning were 4.7 another hmmm this going to make calculating insulin dosage difficult, to heck with a scientific approach just go with the tea bag reading.

Christmas, a minefield of family issues, my sympathies are offered.
I have written many times always try to find something to smile and perhaps laugh about. Our @gennepher ’s tale today was one. Thanks for the smile.

Here in Tilehurst Towers a long list of tasks is written and decisions will have to be made after a lot of heated discussions, I’m not saying Mrs J is excitable but.
Best make myself a safety koffy and wear my crash helmet.

Stay etc, etc

@lindisfel good news on the Duchess's lesions not being cancerous. @Krystyna23040 hug for missing the carol concert and Mr K being worse but very sensible of you not to go and spread whatever ails you both. Mixing at this time of year and indeed any time can be no joy for some of us. This piece, especially the introduction by Lucy Mangan makes perfect sense to me. Assuming we are all social animals ignores the element of the population who aren't but aren't anti social either.

Might be of use @dunelm ?
Up there in the D&DN...mmhh.

Fascinating shorts , who knew wasps were so essential.
Oh some folk up here will still be swimming in the sea no matter what. If you zoom in on this snap I took this tropical morning you will see them frolicking in the heatwave.

A lot of frost coming out the ground and back roads treacherous. Same with garden so cold but not anywhere as cold as last week.

Daughter bought me from Amazon a tablet box for a week that I met with distain when I came out of hospital at end of May. But now we sort them every Saturday morning so we don't get mixed up in the week.;)

Relieved to find out lesions on Marjorie's leg not cancer but inflammation? That's no answer but should find out how they will treat it next week and what it is, and treatment, it was 10 weeks to biopsy.

The guy from church Alan Fearon took me to Penrith for my laser treatment. He is in 70s but very fit, He did the Pennine way not long ago and camped out in a one man tent and his wife picked him up and dropped Him off at different points ever few days.
In the Pandemic you couldn't go on the fells because of rescue being limited so he walked one day from Wigton to Kirkbride on the coast by back roads.
He looked at the Church at Kirkbride on a drumlin near the marsh, it had a plaque from two hundred years ago about the vicar. His wife and six children died in a smallpox plague, he died 10 years later in his 40's.

Medical science has made tremendous strides,
We sometimes grumble times have been difficult but we can't let these politicians ruin our health service.
D.
Great news about the lesions not being cancer so I hope they get treatment sorted quite quickly for her.

She sees a locum Prof of dermatology at Carlisle Wednesday pm so I am hoping there are not too many unanswered questions.
Nice I can drive with two eyes now and take her to Carlisle. We must go to John's Plaice on way back and have some fish and chips!

What a smashing idea and theme. We are only sending out electronic cards this year from Jacquie Lawson Cards
Thank you !

I am afraid I hate Jackie Lawson cards and advent cards with a passion.

When I had a netbook many many years ago, I had a friend who sent me a Jackie Lawson Advent Calendar. It came with a darn dog that ran around my computer screen. And I couldn't get rid of it, so she sent me some kind of file that only went and installed other beasties...she would ask me each day what I'd got under that number that day, because she had a different one. Isn't this so much fun, she said.

NOT...

It took me a few years to get through to her not to send another darn Jackie Lawson Advent Calendar...I don't know how much money she wasted on me. And that old netbook from 13 years ago...it still works, and that eternal wagging tailed doggy is still at it around that screen...

She doesn't sent me anything now for Xmas...yes we are still friends...

I went to do weekly shopping first thing. It was raining.
I came back exhausted and cold and with a tummy ache. And there was no butter for love or money...

Don't like rain.

Prefer the sub zero freezing cold to this ..

Good morning everyone from what might be a warm day here in the dark and dangerous north with a mahoosive 3 deg - not the pop group ogled by the current monarch when he were a lad. Smashing zoom call with my sister this morning who is in the palliative care ward of her local hospital in France. Only ten minutes as she is pretty tired due to the morphine but how we laughed. Art bit - doorway sketched out. Have the most wonderful day that you can have, we are planning on seeing ice sculptures - but not until after koffy.

That is great, the laughing with your sister @dunelm

Ah, the art bit is developing now... interesting...

Morning everyone from a very cold, bright and clear, treacherous surfaced sub region of The Brecks. Definitely an acquired taste. Yesterday used to mark the start of the great O Antiphons (or simply) at Vespers which to me marks the real, serious run in to Christmas. These now start today since an even earlier Brexit style schism. Since my body seems to have reacted to the cold by forcing me into comfort breaks some nights getting back to sleep involves mulling things over. Today was a proper working over. Sub-optimal was the first theme. The weather, this dwelling and wider area were the starting point. Moved on to lifestyle which may be "working" according to a phone consultation with an oncologist yesterday. Bloods normal so 4 weekly tests. Jumped to manna V quail in the wilderness. JKP may think I need quail - not always salad - but that didn't end well either so carry on with the manna. Next stop dysfunctional: the failure of the Illuminati to accept the lessons of 2008, Pandemic and climate crisis leading me to be marooned here for the time being. Then I reflected on more OT , specifically Jacob. This may well be Leah: not my ideal/first choice but perfect in and of itself and ideal for someone else. I want Rachel because I believe that was always the plan for me. @gennepher that Christmas day with J sounds wonderful because like your cards it shows you knew J and know the recipients inside out. Thank you. @dunelm thank you for the art. I find the gradual development helps me understand clearly how they develop so thank you. I know the how of some art but the what and why are a mystery. Hug and winner for the chat with your sister. Christmas cards and e-cards?. I received an email last night too late to stop JKP E-cards but I see problems with this. Not all those she/we send to have the means to access these and some would be mortally offended. Advent poem and art. Have a great day even after virtually meeting this Rambling Man - gotta love the Allman Bros.
Thank you @ianpspurs for the Christmas card compliments.

Yes there is a problem with electronic cards for many of the people I know.

@SlimLizzy @gennepher's ideas are really good and I have another idea. Perhaps a rather mischievous idea.

What if you organise the do from France and ask everyone to bring a dish. It can be held at one of your siblings houses but you do the organising of who brings what. Would that be acceptable - probably not.

Actually your other siblings will perfectly understand if you say no because you cannot organise it from France and more than likely think that your sister is being unreasonable. Hopefully this is the case.
I rather like this twist to this idea @Krystyna23040 @SlimLizzy

It is doable, and I am sure, with a bit of thought @SlimLizzy (or all of us!), can give it an extra memorable twist. I haven't got many ideas at the mo because I am tired, but SlimLizzy could send a parcel of French food over from France...some kind of a theme...as well as each person bringing the plate of food SlimLizzy chose for that person.

It could be made into something very different than they are used to, and memorable...

And, it could be they all eagerly look forward to when it is @SlimLizzy 's turn organising this long distance from France....

Oh dear! I only do cards - I have looked at those advent calendars and decided that they would be very annoying - so glad that you have now convinced me that I was right.

@gennepher - that is really brilliant and I agree that it could be made into something very different than they are used to, and memorable...

Good morning everyone, only a slight dusting of snow here rather than the 12” up in Swaledale and now they have no electricity for the next few hours. Our morning wandering round the ice sculptures was very pleasant yesterday and I managed 4 miles of walking thanks to having the foresight to gobble down a couple of mind expanding drugs. This coming week we will need to focus on sprouts - will two each be sufficient? It used to be so easy - just another fancy Sunday lunch but these days people can get so picky - easiest solution - don’t invite anyone. Just copy images of over the top feasts from Hare and Hounds or The Bunty, post onto your facebook page and have a bacon butty. Art bit - more detail added to the steps. I hope you all have a wonderful day. I shall now make koffy and riddle the fire.

Thanks for the latest development of the art and good news on the 4 miles walking - all in one go or with rests? Pace kills not distance? Bacon butty is easy eh? High welfare pigs? What breed? Nitrites - may as well smoke while breaking up asbestos. Was a disgraced MP lobbying for the producer? That's before the provenace and carb count of the bread or roll. If used was the butter grass fed? Source of sauce and is the container fully recyclable? Grumpy Old Men passed its sell by date and became a political project called Nigel years ago :D . Carly Swoon says hi. Lyrics

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and all celebrate that this will be the last Sunday before Christmas Day.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.5, better than in the 4’s

Christmas dinner, ah a minefield fraught with those evil mini cabbages named sprouts, loath them or just plain loath them, here in Tilehurst Towers they get inserted into Ferraro Roche wrappers and left for the unsuspecting guest to help themselves.
Mrs J and me, me’s and myself had serious discussions over our Christmas dinner yesterday unfortunately sprouts will be part of the menu. Mrs J rules the roost.

Today’s activities are very much dependant on the forecasted rain deity, but a motorcycling friend who lives up in the Swaydale area had 12inches of snow last night and now no electricity for a predicted 15 hours, ironic here am I worrying about forecasted rain.

As usual stay safe, stay warm and look for the silver lining in every cloud and nick it, then leg it to the pawn shop using the proceeds to pay heating bills.

6.1 this morning. Feel a little better today, so does Mr K. Archie's tummy is still improving.

Yesterday I did 4.9K steps. My normal days steps are usually between 12K and 19K but it is just too icy underfoot at the moment and of course it is wise to stay in the warm when you are ill. So for once I am being wise.
