The heavy duty resistance bands are great! So much less stress on the joints and tendons in the danger zones. Seeing a lot of muscle growth.

Good to hear re the eye. Must be very stressful when it first happens and you're waiting for tests and surgery. Glad it got seen to so quickly and I hope that the recovery continues well and the prognosis is good. You cope with it well mate. Fingers crossed for you,

All good here, I had my bloods taken on Monday for annual diabetes screening .. we'll see how it goes. Hopefully the effects of the being on statins and then coming off the statins will no longer show in the A1C results. Lets see LOL. But feeling healthy and fit, body composition looks good so I'm guessing things are probably OK, although an A1C test just after Christmas is not fair! :oops:

Had a dentist check up on Sat, last year I had what my dentist kindly described as advanced gum disease and now it is actually almost all gone. He said he's never seen it improve so much so fast. I told him I suspect it is because I got my T2 under good control. Good to see that it is having a positive impact.

Mum is getting older and having more joint and arthritis issues but that can't be helped and we manage it as best as possible, appointments and treatments which sadly don't usually do much good. Daughter is growing so fast it is crazy! Proper 12 year old adolescent .. but still very loving and affectionate despite all the ups and downs that go with that. All in all we're doing OK thanks :)

So I'm not going to worry about that and especially as Trigs are so low which normally suggests that the type of lipoproteins in the blood are less atherogenic. So I'm going to pass on the statins even though the doc wants a chat about going back on them.

Brilliant news.
It is the ratio and trigs which are important, If these are good and total is less than 5 you have no issues and definitely do not need statins as you would get no benefit from them. GPs receive a payment for about 17 conditions if they have to prescribe for them giving them quite an incentive to do so. High cholesterol is obviously one of these, as is high blood pressure, which according to my GP I suffer from despite being 100-105 over 60 for at least 5 years without the meds he wants to prescribe for me.

Thanks for the information above mate .. it tallies with with my understanding too. To be fair to my GP who is a really lovely bloke, he is also duty bound to recommend adhering to prescribed standards of care. Sometimes these standards are based on statistical studies that are now out of date or do not address the true chain of causation for a disease anymore given advances in the understanding of the actual reductionist causes of a disease. No GP will get struck off or sued for prescribing in accordance with the dictated standard of care, they can get into trouble if they advise against the prescribed standard of care by taking into account changes in understanding that haven't yet been incorporated into the standards. These changes come so slowly. My total is over 5 but well established research suggests that it is not so high as to be in the danger zone, especially not so when looking at the HDL ratios and the Trig levels which I'm very relieved are in the excellent ranges, Trig levels are especially good. Diet and exercise can do a lot of good, medications start tinkering with systems that are often linked by many pathways to many other systems causing other issues and side effects. Low Trigs indicate that the type of LDL you have is mostly not going to be of the small dense type. Doctors are a lot like engineers in that they have freedom in coming up with solutions within the constraints of standards. Deviation from standards leaves the practitioner at risk but is sometimes allowed under certain circumstances once the risks and benefits have been assessed and everyone knows where they stand and who will be responsible for the outcome should it not go according to plan. One never knows everything for sure when it comes to complex systems of interconnected systems but that's life eh?

Apologies if my comments sounded like a whinge. I just arranged some life insurance and had to answer questions like 'have you been diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension etc?' and pay a premium because I supposedly have these conditions when I don't believe that I do. Despite HbA1c of 32 to 36 without meds over the last 5 years I am supposedly diabetic, same for my BP.
I do understand that doctors must stick to guidelines, but they do determine what those guidelines are as a group.
I haven't seen my own GP for years, since he moved the BP machine so that I couldn't see the result; 'you wouldn't understand it' was his comment. (102/61, I checked later online).
Practice nurse is great though, and so is the diabetic nurse.

Oh mate .. no apologies necessary at all. That is appalling behaviour from your GP by the way!! And how can he argue with your BP measurements? I know that I'm very lucky with mine, he'll listen and he'll say that he doesn't know everything and if I talk through stuff with him he'll agree to anything sensible with some monitoring.
