Morning all from L.A. where it has been a damp start - rain delayed lawning. Thank you all for the good wishes yesterday much appreciated and undeserved. Very cool present from #1son and family combining my two main interests as they see them.
So today is back to the impossiblity of making Elsie gut friendly, taste less unpleasant but deliver something below a 500+ cals deficit without drinking olive oil by the litre after 2 days of Elsie without too much care for gut friendly part. @gennepher thanks for the amazing kaleidoscope but hug for the dystopian dream. @dunelm take your time with that survey and don't overtire yourself supervising Mrs. Miggins. Those pieces of art won't create themselves. @Annb hug for the issue over meds - most odd as Osborne is trying to sell the covid enquiry a bridge. Neil got through to the surgery and the receptionist said she would talk to the doctor for him, but he isn't in today, so they caqn't offer any help just now. Unfortunately, the receptionist he spoke to is a very charming, but fairly incompetent, Thai lady. Will she remember by the time she next sees the doctor? Who knows? Is her English up to it after about 20 years in the job? Doubtful. Her talent is to sound delighted that she is talking to you when you phone but actually achieving any result is a bit hit and miss.
I got through to the surgery to find out what is happening about my legs but they haven't a clue why nobody has got back to me and don't seem to be able to contact the nurses working within the same building. They gave me a direct phone number for the nurses' office. Phoned it and got an answer phone to say they will get back to me! Not today though. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe ...

Hug for the struggle to obtain what we all used to regard as basic care. How did we get here? Jones is certainly a rum cove but he has hit the nail on the head here. The impact does seem to have been worse for people such as yourself and @gennepher living in areas which I suspect aren't dyed in the wool deep blue.

Thank you @gennepher. All is now thoroughly watered in the garden. If only I could send a couple of bucketfuls to my parents in France. Their gardens are very dry and cracked despite a day of dismal rain.

It all seems so disjointed and lacklustre - where are those gutsy go getters that we used to have in all corners of the NHS. I count myself lucky that my GP surgery is still in the green zone of the helpometer although for some folk it may feel like it’s bobbing into orange from time to time. Our hospital is pretty good, perhaps not as good as we would like, and with all appointment letters gives you a department phone number that is usually answered if there is a need to phone. Thai - the land of the smiling people. It’s a cultural thing. I hope that she remembers (write it down Mavis). My daughter in law is Thai and although her mother and herself have been in the UK since my daughter in law was 12 years old (my son and her were in school together)- the English language is difficult in pronunciation for a lot of Thai people. She did manage to get her degree and was a duty manager at a very posh hotel in Birmingham (do they have posh hotels in Birmingham??) My son speaks Thai (he went to lessons) but his accent - now there’s a thing. Bit like when I worked in East Africa - with the English letter ‘r’ - I worked for ages with a bloke called Godlick until I got the hang of the accent. Fingers crossed though that the passage of information still works in your favour. Cameron - there’s your villain.

I have to mentally apologise to our Thai receptionist. She did talk to someone and phoned back to say that she has obtained a one-off prescription for Neil's tablets (still has to get a doctor to sign it) and he can pick it up tomorrow. That will give a little leeway while a more permanent solution is worked out. Sadly, whenever her name is mentioned, eyes are rolled because her inability to do her job efficiently is famed throughout the patient roll at our surgery. But, after 20 years (about) maybe she has developed a level of seniority that can get things done. She is such a lovely person, it's a shame to malign her.
I also had dealings with a receptionist today. Surprisingly, a nurse did phone this afternoon in response to my message. She told me rather grumpily, to get back to reception and make an appointment to see her. I did that and was given an appointment for "Thursday at 11.45." Is that Thursday 29th, I asked. "No, next Thursday, the 22nd", I was told and then, with a laugh, "we're quite efficient here, you know." I had to join in with the laughter. The receptionist was clearly not aware of the irony.
Progress at least. Happy days.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and those who are thinking about walking into a GP’s surgery committing foul deeds of grievous bodily harm so that they will be given a prison term in the prison medical wing, just to get a better quality of care, please let me, me’s and myself assure you having seen the way prisoners are treated in hospitals it’s not worth it,
Blood sugars this morning were a 4.7 and the ramifications of that reading lasted until 15:00hrs.
It was motorcycle mot day, the bike duly passed, but shock horror and other words.
I found out I only rode approximately 700 miles in the last year. Excuses were in no particular order, injury, illness, weather both cold and to hot. Must do betterer this year.
Now I must wish you all a pleasant evening.
Nite night.

Yes I feel the same and I do deep breathing as I use my heated eye mask and listen to my two favourite songs for relaxing - the BBC children in need version of Perfect Day and ABBA's Ode To Freedom.Curious if anyone else feels similar ?
Always felt the phrase "Music calms the savage beast" more suited to movies.
However since my accident I've struggled keeping a lid on certain anxieties.
But I found music to be extremely useful to me, in managing such moments.
And with the uncertainty of how I/we'd cope post accident on our first holiday in 3 years,
I took the precaution of making a 'calming' play list with us.
An eclectic mix, but it worked beautifully.
(King of the road, 16 tons..really JJ..)
A snippet of this one kept popping up on silly shorts on my YouTube feed , it somehow hooked me & once I heard the full song it became my Go-To for calmer moments .
Anyone else finding music as useful in such situations..?

What an up and down kind of day. More or less resolved issues with the medical practice and now have discovered why our 2nd bin wasn't emptied last Tuesday - the council has now stopped lifting any 2nd bins. All of our 3 weeks of non recycleable rubbish has to fit into one bin now. Why? It wouldn't take much extra time for the bin men to lift a few 2nd bins around the village. They sold me the extra bin when my husband was sick and there was no other disposal option for all the extra rubbish we were producing. Now I am the one who needs the extra rubbish space for waste which has no optional service but will have to make a case for the service to be reinstated by confiding my medical issues to some council clerk. I don't feel inclined to do that. For the moment, Alistair will take loads to the waste recycling centre every so often but we shouldn't have to do that.
This kind of decision leads to fly tipping, which I'm sure the council wouldn't want to happen. Very short sighted, in my opinion. But who cares about my opinion?
Amusing story: some years back my friend wanted to dispose of a computer and phoned the environmental department to ask how it was to be done. The official who spoke to her told her just to leave it with the rest of the rubbish and the bin men would put it in the truck for her. "But it has heavy metals in it," she told them. "That's allright. The men are strong and they'll be able to lift it!" These are environmental experts!

And I gather that it has been proved to be unreliable in the past. Also heard that anyone on a voyage on it has to sign a waiver for any accidents.
