What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.9 this morning.

Not sure where that came from. Went on a 6 mile hike yesterday, felt really quite good afterwards. It seems to have de-coked my back as well. And I ate a modest dinner. No sense to this thing.

It’s very interesting, this testing lark. Just for those that are new (and I’m newish) I sat up in bed and tested my BG straight away, it was 7! Very disappointed and tried to analyse why. Then remembered I hadn’t swabbed or washed my hands so after doing that took it again and it was 5.3! The moral of this tale is make sure you clean the area you’re pricking!:D

I just tried a re-test on a super clean digit with my disappointing FBG, and it did reduce a little, but only to 6.7. Still not what I’m looking for! Possibly your first was a dodgy testing strip?

Crazy isn’t it! I take 2000mg a day of Metformin and it doesn’t spike my BG but obviously everyone if different. What do you eat in a typical day? Do you have snacks too? Most members here with type 2 follow a low carb high fat diet and ignore the diet advice given by our GP or diabetic nurse as it’s outdated and guaranteed to send our blood glucose sky high and keep us sick, leading to complications in the long run.
Search this website for diet advice and see what works for you to bring your numbers down ;)

Your right I just follow a low carb diet mainly because I do slimming world but it's been great for my HBA1C as it's currently 42. It's the best it's ever been, and I went on insulin because it wouldn't be managed on the advice I was on before. I'm a type 2 on insulin and only take insulin perhaps once a day with my evening meal and that's few and far between although I haven't yet got away from my background insulin that I take every night, but time will tell

Your helpful body obviously feels if you are going hiking 6 miles again you need some fuel. She'll be right. . @pelle dawn phenomenon is exactly that as per caveperson's body gearing up to be a hunter gatherer. Welcome @Charlotte73 . Oh, 4.9 here but what's done is done. Seafood for the feast of St James the Greater anyone? Moules and (halloumi) frites sounds like a plan - Camino de Santiago is a bit OTT. :D

Yeah, let's see if can get this right. Dawn Phenomenon, oft referred to as DP, is what our endocrine system attempts to place more glucose in our blood, as we wake up, to run away from the Saber Tooth tiger or Giant Sloth, and beyond. That's why I try to get the test done as soon as I wake up. Annoying, yeah? Not if you have any Giant Sloths roaming in the neighborhood like we do in London.

Anyways, welcome to this part of the T2 neighborhood.

I have been testing over 13 yrs. I thoroughly clean my hands with regular soap and warm water , dry nicely and test one time only and move on. Good luck and have a nice day.

I like your explanation, made me giggle, I think I understand, plenty of those sloth in my house aswell, namely me, but I'm trying not to be. Anyway thank you

I fear you are correct. Well I wish it wouldn’t, there’s plenty of supplies in Sainsbury’s. What with that and the odd sabre tooth, plus all the hunting and gathering going on, it must be quite exhausting for the endocrine system. I shall instruct it to take the day off. Moules and halloumi frites? Together? Sacre bleu!

Nice guy called Ocado hunts and gathers for us - much safer with all those Sabre toothed tigers roaming about. Moules et Halloumi frites is the new black. Gotta love a bit of foodie Wokery.

Hi, mine was ranging around 12-15 when I was diagnosed in Feb I am also very new to all of this as well. Found little help from the nurse and everything over the phone . Was put on 4 metformin a day and avertastatin (which I I stopped after 1 week as BG were getting higher). Didn't progress from 1 metformin and like many others went on low carb diet & initially the 800 cal diet. I have found this site very useful and helpful & hopefully It will improve
