What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Lord Bragg of Wigton was on our cultural life today R4. He went to the same school as our two and the teacher who encouraged him so much was a real character and flew a reconnaissance Spitfire in the last war, it had cameras on board instead of guns. He died relatively recently nearly a hundred years of age
Well worth a listen to is Melvyn, he is a very self effacing guy.

Wildlife nighttime camera
Cat Midnight and the Snail (who is intent on getting to the cat biscuits other side of Midnight)
These cat biscuits are coveted by every creature in my garden...
This footage was sped up many times over, and it took the snail over half an hour to reach those treasure cat biscuits on the other end of the swing behind Midnight.

2.5k views in the last few hours...not too bad!!!

Creative - from some soft pastel paintings I did a few years ago. I am reworking them. I also had some Aquarelle Neocolour pastels Caran D'Ache (pastels to add water to), and played with these. So, a sort of pastel mixed media painting.

Quite cool today...

Time for a cuppa...

Your creative is stunning @gennepher.

Really enjoyed Richard's first three books, characters are interesting!
I have just finished Jodi Taylor's thirteenth(?) outing of St.Mary's chronicles. Everyone a five star read!
If you haven't read the first one, then you are missing something!
I haven't come across Jodie Taylor books as yet. Will look them up on Amazon.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and those who celebrate school holidays being almost over, ah schooldays when you could get corporal punishment for free.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.8 . Me, me’s and myself were expecting a number in the 7s

Here in Tilehurst Towers we have the 3 grandchildren for the day therefore Mrs J will have 4 children to supervise, admittedly 1 of the children is well into his 3rd childhood, rather shaky on his feet and is banned from climbing trees, but has a knowledge of rather risque songs and is not adverse to teaching them to the others when the grups ( shortened version of grown ups ) aren’t in hearing range.
Now I must away and plan my day.

Stay safe all and start hoarding shot gun pellets for the election next year.
Time to go.

Good morning everyone from a lovely quiet start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. Exhausted after our fun packed weekend and after the obligatory unpacking and loading of the washing machine, hit the sack and didn’t wake until 0700 to a 5.4 on the scales of lies and titters. Mrs Miggins has gone to collect The Girl In The Bubble so I expect that we will take a trip to the cafe for toasted muffins and butter, a favourite of hers. More packing to do this week. A bag for a trip with my youngest son to the land of daan saaf at the end of the week. Another for a week away with Mrs Miggins. Forget where but it’s an early start on Monday morning and in any case, I love mystery trips. Wonder if it will be like an adventure like Janet and John as read by Terry Wogan? Art bit, quick sketch on Saturday. Hope your day is a good one. I have already drunk my koffy.

10.9 when the Libre woke me up this morning (3.30). Kitchen, painkillers, tea and watch TV for a bit. That sent me to sleep until 6 am. Yesterday I had my Zoom "Move More" class, which always hurts (it shouldn't the movements are very gentle, but it always does) and later I had an appointment with the NHS "Counterweight" class. I should have gone last time but was too sore and just went to bed so I thought I really ought to make the effort this week. Weight taken (fully clothed and with my big boots on) still a bit more than I expected at 109kg but I think that, for some unknown reason, I am beginning to put it on again. And guess what - that old recommended plate of food is on the go again. 40% of meals should be carbohydrate. Reduce fat, reduce meat, eat lots of veg and fruit. Apparently, to lose 5% of my weight, I should be eating 1300 calories a day. I suspect that I am not eating anything like that. Not that I ever do count calories. I am supposed to keep a food diary and mark down all the calories I eat or drink. If I manage to do that, the calories won't be coming from 40% carbs, that's for sure.

Others there were talking about having to give up chocolates, biscuits and cakes, heavily sweetened coffee, alcohol. What could I give up to reduce calories? Fats, I suppose because I don't have any of the others anyway but, I'm not going to do that. Butter, cheese and cream have always been my favourites. I'm pretty sure that much of my weight is caused by taking insulin and I would love to give that up but don't think I should just yet.

Morning
Reading your posts makes me wonder about your other medication and interactions. I think a food diary is a good idea, portion size is also a factor for me something I have to watch. What also plays a part for me is activity.
Good luck in your battle.

Yes, Alf, activity is important although when the weight started to go on, I was pretty active but then, as things progressed, I had to slow down and then the arthritis kicked in and that stopped me. Ankles, knees, hips, hands - all went at the same time - during the years when I was nursing my husband, so I took little notice of it. Towards his end, I knew that I should have done something about it but what was on offer was surgery on one knee which would have crippled me for 6 months. I refused and was left to get on with it by myself. That eventually led to sticks, a zimmer frame and a wheelchair plus serious back pain when I try to do anything on my feet. All my own fault, well a lot of it. I do think some of the issue is blood pressure medication (Diltiazem and 2 diuretics, one of which I don't take any more because it has such a severe effect). Recent problems with some sort of -itis in my legs and feet (could be plantar fasciitis or tendonitis) don't help to get me standing up either. So, really I have to try to do it all with diet and I'm pretty sure 1300 calories is too much for my level of activity.

Morning - just - all from an increasingly autumnal L.A.. 5.2 from Swipey first up. 8 years worth of data, 2 years of using Libre and 2 A1c's since June 21 make me doubt what this sensor is showing - except the fbgs. Four grandchildren here today. Given my context and what I know of history that is definitely a blessing. @dunelm thanks for sharing the sketch and enjoy today with TGIB. @Annb hug for the nutritional conundrum. 1300 cals a day seems to be a stretch based on BMR - this tool is basic but may give a better idea for a start point.. Have a good day y'all. Word of the day: logorrhoea - I'll say no more.

7 this morning. Been really run down recently with falls, bruises and now skin flare ups, headaches and lack of motivation to boot. Numbers are reflected in this also during the day. Dreading my hba1c results when I have it. The past couple of months have been a nightmare.

Like this ink sketch @dunelm I can see so many different things in it...

You say in this post that it was "All my own fault, well a lot of it."
Well I disagree. Life got in the way for you, nursing your husband for years. We are not super humans, able to do all the stuff that keeps us healthy and fit as well as caring for a sick husband. It is just impossible.

I don't have an answer. But I do agree with Alf about portion size. By that I mean my portion size is very small, not a regular portion size that most people have. Normal portion sizes would literally send me in a diabetic coma.

A food diary and times you eat and corresponding blood glucose readings may be of help to you personally, but my food diary is not one I could hand to a diabetic practitioner who believes "- that old recommended plate of food is on the go again. 40% of meals should be carbohydrate. Reduce fat, reduce meat, eat lots of veg and fruit."

I am constantly tweaking my diet, times I eat etc etc. I think I have it sussed, then something throws me for a loop.

The bit that was my own fault was the day I decided that I preferred to stay by my husband's side to the end, rather than take time on the mainland to have the surgery done and then the 6 months that the consultant warned I would be crippled and unable to help Tom. Yes - life got in the way, but the decisions we take are our own and we have to take responsibility for them.

I do already keep a rough food diary, mainly to check BG but I do note down what the food was, although not the volume usually; certainly not the calories - that's what I'll have to add in. Portion size is possibly where I fall down. Is a 3 egg cheese omelette too much on its own to last all day? That's what I do sometimes. And how to count the calories in a bowl of stew (or curry, or tagine) I have no clue. My stews, generally have onions, carrot, courgette, aubergine, tomato and meat of some sort and sometimes some dried fruit (middle eastern and eastern stews tend to require that). I make a pot which I think is enough for 2 and then make it last me for 3 or 4 days. That's the only portion control I do. Sometimes, if my breakfast has kept me going, I don't bother with the stew or whatever else I am having (love steak and onions and pretty sure my portions are far too big when I have that).

What was that word Ian introduced? Logorrhoea? Right - time to shut up!

Ann,
I don't think there was any 'fault' in your actions, we sometimes have to chose a course that is not ideal and it brings a measure or a lot of self sacrifice.
Maybe if we had space to plan the problems could have been mitigated but it is easy to be wise after the event.
If you had chosen a course that was not self sacrificing your husband would have suffered a lot more discomfort.
D.
