What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Morning all from L.A. where we still cling desperately to the last vestiges (don't need them yet but do need pantsiges) of this year's sub-optimal summer. No test for the newly cleared and realigned gutters so lawns were cut and washing dried outside yesterday - except towels since I'm not into that kind of thing. @dunelm thank you for sharing the latest art and I guess no news of further symptoms is good news. Presumably this will delay your next booster? @Annb I hope you find the ham and can make your oatcake (s). A dilemma with the heating but biting the bullet seems the way forward - says he who isn't paying the bills. Word of the day for me is hevel. Sensor expired last evening as we watched Alone. Note to self, gratitude for the seemingly mundane costs nothing - that and hevel are inextricably linked. Enjoy as much of the day as possible - don't forget the attitude of gratitude.
Thank you @ianpspurs. Covid booster well on track for October

Last week my Amazon parcels were delivered in the evening when they had been promised in a window much earlier in the day. I don't like answering the door when it is dark. And it meant I was keeping an eye open on the flashing doorbell for many hours. Wasted my day. So I had my parcels sent to the local post office. I went this morning to collect them. Much much easier and less time wasting.

I mentioned to the post office lady that my parcels came in the evening last week as opposed to during the day, and well past the window when they were supposed to arrive. That's the new 20mph limit, she said. What they are doing now is delivering to businesses first, then the hubs and shops next, and then the homes last. So it is however long it takes to do everything else first before they deliver to homes which will often be in the evening now.

Buses are still doing 30mph in a 20mph. I try to steer clear of a bus route so I haven't got a bus right up the back side of my car trying to make me go faster, unnerving me. Other car drivers feel the same, harassed by this. A bus or a large wagon trying to force you to go faster, is a whole another ball game to a car behind you doing that same thing.,

If this carries on, and it is not policed or addressed, then I will become very set against the blanket 20mph. I agree with 20 mph for schools, fire stations and all the other things it was for previously, and even to extending some of those a bit. And also, I find that when all the traffic sticks to 20mph, it is easier for cars to turn into the main road and a few other things. But when we have a group of much larger vehicles who think the 20mph does not apply to them and they continue at 30mph bullying other drivers of smaller vehicles to break the speed limit, then something needs to be done about them, or else we all stick to 30mph.

I just checked where the mobile Go Safe speed cameras are this week, and they seem remarkably absent on bus routes. I think that tells a story.

And then put in Procreate to try some different digital details with it. I had fun doing this one!

I am tired now. Time for a nap.

Is this 20MPH going through a bedding in period before they start monitoring it? Lovely artwork. We went to The Van Gogh imersive experience when last in Bristol - some of the rooms had this sort of texture feel to them.

Not really, is my understanding from reading the GoSafe site. There are mobile camera vans out now.
This is what the GoSafe site says...
"GoSafe apply the NPCC guidelines which outline the enforcement thresholds of not less than 10% plus 2mph. While the public get used to the change in default limit, Chief Police Officers have allowed us to increase this to 10% plus 4mph in 20mph only, meaning we start to prosecute at 26mph in a 20mph limit."

That Van Gogh immersive experience sounds interesting @dunelm

My local council have introduced 20mph in certain areas and not blanket coverage. Mainly for streets and roads, where it is mostly sensible and logical.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.
I had my annual liver ultrasound test this morning, the lady that carried out the test has been doing ultrasound tests for 30+ years and has seen it all! Read into that as you want, but we parted with both of us laughing. I shall get the results in a couple of weeks.

Blood sugars this morning were 7.7 and I’m not at all surprised or concerned and if I told you what I ate last night I would have to kill you, state secrets etc.

Hopefully attached is a couple of pictures from yesterday’s motorcycle ride out, 85 miles, a vegan bacon sarnie, which doesn’t look very good but was one of the best, this was at a secret location, this establishment caters more for the savoury eaters than the cake munchers. The other picture is of a pub that Johnny Morris used to own and has been a regular stop off place for me for a few years.
Now tasks await and Mrs J is a harsh task master.

Here on the Western Isles we only have 20 mph limits around schools - plus speed humps when the school is on a side road. There is usually a "lollipop" lady or man to get children across main roads. However, at the school where DIL works, the janitor left and the lollipop man left and the council said they couldn't afford to replace them so school staff were asked to "volunteer" to do the jobs. DIL has taken on some of the tasks of the janitor (and gets Alistair to go in to do some of the things she can't). Not sure what the insurance situation is if anything goes wrong. She is also one of the lollipop ladies. This is for no extra pay for any of them. To me, that is just wrong, but it would be equally wrong to leave the children to cross a main road on their own.

Reminds me of a short visit to Haifa (Israel) some years ago. The traffic was absolutely insane, chaotic, aggresive and frightening but children going to school formed "crocodiles", holding hands, 2 by 2. They were led by a slightly bigger child, holding a large yellow hand on a stick which was held aloft when the crocodile crossed one of those crazy and dangerous roads. And the traffic ground to a halt to let them cross. Even in that chaotic situation, drivers obeyed the command of that yellow hand. Those same drivers would happily get into shouting, fist waving battles at gridlocked intersections. but at the sight of the hand, they became sensible, cautious citizens. Neil says he has heard of similar situations in other places, but can't remember where. Somehow, I'm not confident that it would work in the UK.

6.2 this morning.
Another assessment this morning from the council and also power of attorney sorted.
It went well!
Chores done cos a rapid quick tidy up for visit was gonna go shop, but it's raining already and getting breezy, so I'm not bothering might pop over the local shop later, if I need to or get the urge!

Good news on the counselling, appointment later this week, to start it again. I can now cancel the one I have been having my my surgery.

Teachers!
My second teacher was ask to leave, a couple of years after, I had gone to grammar school. It was wise as he took the swimming lessons. The lads in my class were in deep end, while the teacher was in the shallow end, I kid you not! With the girls!
We thought nothing of it being six or seven at the time!

Grammar school was a bit of a nightmare, and I was clever enough, but not in the clique that the staff and discipline, was to my education. The number of staff that just didn't care of out up with those who were excluded from the privilege in many aspects of the school life for for us, who it affected. One physics teacher actually wrote in my report, that he didn't want me in his class and didn't want me in his classroom, Eouldnt give me a grade! Good job I had another teacher to get my CSE. The best one was the head PE teacher, who finally used my talents on the square, pitch and court! An English teacher was decent in my last two yeard, he actually understood what it was like to be out of your class status in an educational institution!
The last year was of course the change to the system and the majority of teachers, including the head, deputy head all left and a new regime, which, was like a new approach to teaching teenagers.
I must add that in the first three years, the prefects and especially the head boy, had free reign on phishing any boy who came into being just there! The head boy could even discipline boys, using corporal punishment, as could the senior house masters, head and deputy head! Teachers could use whatever was to hand to keep discipline!
I had my fingers, hands, legs and my rear area well disciplined!
This is why the country, was and is, a great place to be poor!
It was ok for some, but worse than borstal for others! I kid you not!
My mother, was shocked at the wrote across the back of my hands, she turned up one morning from work, in her overalls and sat outside the heads office, until a while later, the head spike to her, looking down his nose, at my mother's workwear. And of course, the head had no respect for her and would look further into the punishment. Which didn't happen!
This was late sixties. I still turned out ok (ish)!

Lancs on the box, at Kent! Before Aggie gets here!

Best wishes to you all as always.

Every cloud has a silver lining, every cloud blots out the sun!

I have seen that kind of system in other countries myself, wether a hand of sign.
On the continent they have traffic lights and no go areas around schools or a new approach is to build new schools were the entrance is not on the road itself, well back away from traffic. A pedestrian area around the school grounds, such as a side entrance, rather than gates on the road. And a car free zone within thirty yards around any entrsnce, access and service, another entrance. The local primary school completely changed the entrance for children and instead of front gates, now used for access and car park, the kids go in from the rear of the school, on a path designed to do this! It is about fifty yards away from traffic. We only have a lollipop lady on the main road traffic lights, and she ignores the lights! Giving immediate access for the kids.
The girls school not to far away has also had the street closed at start and end of school!
Why not? And it's still 20 mph!

Smashing - nice Tracer

Sensible AND logical - your council members must be holding the brain cell :arghh::hungover:
The problem is always funding and even tho the powers that be want more local authorities to do stuff, they have to find the budget elsewhere, and especially in a metro area, the choice the government makes, I just not enough! The damage that austerity has done and the continuous strain on council resources will mean further councils going bankrupt! And that, like most social services is what the Tories want!

I remember in the States when one was driving you could not pass a school bus when it was unloading and loading children.
One just waited. I found it amusing how the black kids would dawdle across the road in a slow swinging walk. I found it funny, I was in no rush.
And it gave them obvious pleasure annoying road users
