Alan Fearon came and cut most of my grass this morning, he had been on holiday on a Greek Island for two weeks in September. He was telling me a young woman turned up at the local food bank last week and she had six children and desperate because she didn't know how she was going to feed them.

I am sure there is more need now than there was when I was young. Young children should not suffer because of their parents poverty in what purports to be one of the World's rich democracies.

When Johnson and Truss, to name but two, conspicuously and shamelessly game the system old mores have gone so those seeking to shame people into starving quietly have abandoned the moral high ground. Obviously, I blame Thatcher for the mess - deliberately twisting and weaponising the meaning of the parable of the good Samaritan amongst so many other things. I think she knows better by now. By the way, I'm not about to deny anyone else the right to celebrate whatever event and whatever way they want. I just want to be able to do things my way. Christmas, when I was a child, just after WW2 was fun and beautiful. On Christmas morning 1947, my brother and I woke to find a small tin of watercolours, which actually included a brush, an apple, an orange and a little toy (mine was a tiny plastic doll, my brother's was a little car). We were delighted. My mother had made paper chains (those strips of paper that you link together to form a chain) for the living room, the fire was on, and the room was cozy. Our aunt visited and read stories to us while Mum made the Christmas dinner (rabbit, I think). That was charming and proportionate. It wouldn't do these days and I wouldn't wish it on children today in the society we live in. I'm not a hard-liner as far as others are concerned but I prefer my Christmas to be more of a religious day. So I stay out of everyone's way, knowing that I have done my best to make everyone else's Christmas as enjoyable as they want it to be.

I think that before our esteemed PM gets too far on his high horse somebody should remind him that the 20mph was originally proposed bt the Welsh Conservative party in fact someone posted a photo on FB of the leader of the welsh conservatives out campaigning for it.

A friend of ours drove over from Cotgrave this morning as she, Judith and Melody were going down town to do some shopping and have a coffee and a meal, unfortunately as our friend was about to leave the roundabout she was on a Range Rover shot out of one of the roads joining the roundabout and hit them from the left side causing considerable damage and the driver of the other car got out and started shoughting and gesticulating at them Mel at the time was struggling to get Judith out various people ran over to see if they were ok Mel said to the guy you haven't asked if we are ok and his reply was I don't care as it's not about you but about me and he hoped my friend's car was a right off a thoroughly unpleasant man. As it happens they were just shaken up though Judith's arm was hurting a bit from the bump she got from the passenger door. They are all OK now but somewhat shaken up.

Someone should tell that guy that you give way to the right when joining a roundabout not expect traffic on the roundabout to give way to you.

Someone should tell him a bit more than that! That sounds like plain, old fashioned, dangerous driving. Trouble is, a talking to probably would just pass in one ear and out of the other. Pity there are no police cars around when you want them.

I hope Mel and Judith are allright now and that bumps and bruises are the worst of the damage. It can take a while to get over a shock like that.

Morning all from a bright, dry and crystal clear start to St Jerome's day here in the Exotic East .The next fortnight may be mostly light polo/t-shirt, shorts, no socks or trousers weather (an extra top early on and after dark and some waterproof gear for an odd thunderstorm at school pick up time) @dunelm thanks for sharing the art with the added colour to elevate the piece even higher. That was the winter after the 1946/47 winter, which was a really bad winter and houses were freezing and the single glazed windows were patterned frosty floral patterns for weeks. The snow was deep in the gardens and on the streets and on the top of the hill on the heath there were big drifts and I was seven and even then a tall very blond young lad who loved the countryside that started just a two hundred yards from my council home.
People were poor but tried to help each other, food was not plentiful and there were very few fat people around and we still had ration books if I remember rightly.
We were all in it together, we more than most without what Mother called the breadwinner.

But right or wrong I thank God for his hand on my life.

I have always encountered that with being deaf @JohnEGreen they said you're deaf you shouldn't be driving, you shouldn't have a licence.... now I am disabled that's a double whammy now, you shouldn't be driving you're deaf and disabled. And add to that I am female as well......

Good morning everyone on a quiet and sunny start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. If it stays this way then the grass may or may not get a trim. 5.5 this am. Not a great deal going on today. Mrs Miggins is taking The Girl In The Bubble to the cinema. They are screening Toy Story as a matinee. I would spend some time pottering about but I’m just not very good at it. I am though good at lazing about and visualising what the lawns would look like if they were only trimmed a bit. Art bit, Chinese ink on paper. Hope your day is a good one. Time for some koffy.

A lot of my places I wandered as a child were devoid of people. I was my own company. I was thinking of the Kentish marshes as I did this one, where the tide creeps insidiously in as you walk on the clumps of grasses...

" White rabbits". Welcome to October folks. Where did September go? When I was younger I often heard people say that time passes more quickly as you get older. I now understand what they meant! No fbs test today but last one was 8.4. Best wishes for today.

11.1 at 3 am but after painkillers and a cup of tea it dropped to 8.9 by 6.30. Now 8.4.

I got my job done, cleaning under the kitchen chest of drawers and realised that I needed to make a start on the larder, so I did that instead of making cakes. Didn't finish it, so will have to do that today. Cakes first though. That's the first job after breakfast.

Then I can get back to the larder. It has to be done because I bought some nuts in bulk and some new containers for them, then found I didn't have enough space for them in the larder so it needed sorting out and getting cleaned at the same time. Plenty of detergent spray and bleach being used.

Sarsparilla tea bags, which I really didn't like, thrown out plus a jar of some unidentifiable powder, which might have been wheat germ, but I wasn't sure, has also gone and a packet of digestive biscuits which had been opened, goodness knows when, stored in a plastic box on a lower shelf and forgotten, also gone now as well as a plastic box of boiled sweets bought as an emergency supply to deal with hypos, but been there so long that they'd gone sticky, like the ones which had made 2 of my handbags all sticky. There may be other things to go out as I work through them.

Neil is still working on that 2nd extension leaf for the teak table.

It's all go!

Good morning all from a mild start to Sunday in what I am pretty sure must be the least exotic area of the Exotic East. If one uses the area covered by BBC Look East news greater London and the East Midlands sneak in so I may be doing it an injustice. @gennepher thanks for sharing the creative. So much of the Suffolk part of this area looks and feels to me exactly like that creative except Newmarket which is Cambs really (see attached). Ignore the calendar, no need for heating yet - doors open, t-shirt-n-shorts weather here at least. @JohnEGreen I hope that your bg goes down and that Judith and Melanie aren't too shaken up or pained by the highly unpleasant man's appalling driving and behaviour. @dogslife good to hear from you. @dunelm thanks for sharing the creative. @Annb take it easy with the Autumn cleaning, enjoy the baking then rest up for Stir Up Sunday - Nov 26th this year. Duck for lunch/main meal this very day since hereabouts the whereabouts of geese to buy is a mystery until later in the year. Y'all have a good day now.
