Have you considered fasting to encourage Autophagy? It's an emerging area that certainly has a lot of potential. Something that's perhaps worthy of your research. It costs nothing.
I’ve tried the cold water method. Didn’t work. Eggs just don’t seem worth it to me
Some blood test results are affected by fasting, cholesterol being one of those. However, as others have said, an hba1c result won't be affected. Also, got a few people telling me this test results weren’t valid because I never took it fasted. This wasn’t a test for diabetes either so I will speak with my doctor today. I’m starting to think it’s all a misunderstanding
You sound like you're going through a lot of stages of grief all at once, which basically is normal after a diagnosis: the bargaining, the denial, the anger. Just don't shoot the messengers, we're only trying to help.Ah so again the opposite is what happened is usual. Not seeing why this is such a good idea

There was no surgery. What are you talking about? I think there’s some miscommunication here on this thread too and people are jumping to conclusions. I will wait till I talk to my actual doctorYou sound like you're going through a lot of stages of grief all at once, which basically is normal after a diagnosis: the bargaining, the denial, the anger. First thing's first. What tests were done and what were the exact results? Diabetes and prediabetes can be diagnosed in various ways, but the most usual one is NOT a fasting test. Like I said, a HbA1c is the average of three months, and whether you have a massive McD's Happy Meal beforehand or fast for two days prior, won't make any difference. So that number is fairly reliable, as long as you're not severely iron deficient. If you weren't tested with a HbA1c but just current blood glucose, measured most likely in mmol/l, that number can tell a lot too. Fasting or no, (and it should be fasting) but it isn't as definitive as a HbA1c. So. Check what your tests were, and the resulting numbers, and then go from there. You're either prediabetic or you're not. And if you are, you have a chance to do something about it before you get complications/cross over into diabetic territory. If not, you can have some heads roll at the surgery.
Also keep in mind that there's more than carbs in that burger you had. Salt and other electrolytes, fibers, vitamin D/cholecalciferol most likely added into the bread to some extent. It's not just sugars, so what made you feel better? There really is no way to know without bloodwork from that moment.
Anyway... Get your results -often available through your practice online- or give the surgery a call for them. Today, if you can. You need to know, because this is going to drive you up the wall, otherwise. Let us know if you want to sort through your results, or check the numbers against the chart from this website.( https://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html )
I know it's not easy. It's a lot to work through, assuming the prediabetic diagnosis is correct. And if you truly feel diet is not an option for you, please seriously consider medication. And keep in mind that some conditions, especially inflammatory ones like rosacea, can flare before sputtering out. The keto diet is a rather anti-inflammatory one, which is why I only feel the rheumatism when I stray from my low carb, non cow dairy diet, or get a flu jab like yesterday's. (Auch). I have a feeling you don't want to hear any of this anyway, but hey. I tried.
Good luck,
Jo
Surgery is another word for doctor's office. There was no surgery. What are you talking about?
Ah I see. Thanks for clarifyingSurgery is another word for doctor's office.
Like Antje said, surgery, doc's office, GP's practice. Same thing... That's what you get when people write the Queen's English, American English and Canadian English all mixed together... Sorry. Kind of comes with being Dutch and learning English mainly through the BBC, American tv series/movies and living in Canada. I don't know which is which, half the time, sorry. That's also why I mix the use of the s's and z's, write colour and color..... I don't know whether I'm coming or going sometimes. There was no surgery. What are you talking about? Ah no worries, I’m Canadian. Never heard doctors office be called surgery before, not even in movies and suchLike Antje said, surgery, doc's office, GP's practice. Same thing... Rosacea is something that the doctors do not seem to have cure for. Mine annoys me, and I would love to be rid of it.I'm also prone to rosacea and have it even today. Can't figure out what cause
Bro stop with this paradigm. I’m not fat, I don’t need to snack because I’m fat, i need to snack because I can’t gain weight and it’s unhealthyIncreasing protien and healthy fats (those from meat and dairy and olive oil) will keep you fuller for longer and help stop the need to snack.
You might find you drop a little weight initially but it will rise again when you've found the foods that suit you.
Some of us post our daily meals here, where you find lots of inspiration... and see how different the approaches can be depending on each individuals circumstances
What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)
I want to make something like a shepherd's pie this weekend. I've never seen a shepherd's pie in my life, but it sounds very tasty. You lot being mainly from the UK, you've all eaten and cooked hundreds of shepherd's pies of course. So any tips or favourite recipes are welcome. :) This is the...www.diabetes.co.uk
What was the test and the test result diagnnosing you?Ok so spoke with my doctor. He confirmed the diagnosis so I am gonna go low carb I guess.
I haven’t been eating candy bars regularly till this last year. Long story. Anyhow easy to stop and find something else.If you need to gain weight, you need to eat more, reduce the carbs and increase the protein and fat.
If you go on myfitnesspal, and work out YOUR metabolic requirements calorie wise, then eat slightly more than that figure. Snack on cooked meats and cheese, or pork scratchings. I love Snickers with a passion, but have had to forgo them for 4 years now.![]()
Doc said blood glucose was 6% and it was that hab1c whichever it’s calledWhat was the test and the test result diagnnosing you?
Instead of oats I make up a porridge mix with 2 heaped spoons of milled flaxseed to one of chia seeds and a little oatbran. Add more seeds and or chopped nuts plus cinnamon and a little salt (we need to add salt to our diet if avoiding over-processed foods).Ok so spoke with my doctor. Any help with substituting for my normal carbs? I usually eat:
Oats, sweet potatoes, corn, black beans, snickers bar for after work (because work exhausts me and I’m trying to gain weight) yes GAIN as I am skinny and it’s not healthy. 150lbs and 6 feet tall. You can see my ribs.
People are trying to help you here. I get it, it's a difficult diagnosis, but trust me as I'm speaking from personal experience here, getting a full blown type 2 diabetes diagnosis is harder.Bro stop with this paradigm. I’m not fat, I don’t need to snack because I’m fat, i need to snack because I can’t gain weight and it’s unhealthy
Ok a few issues here: I have a host of food intolerances which is gonna make this very tricky so bear with me. I'm not picking your suggestions apart and I'm not attacking you personally, I simply have food allergies, ok?Instead of oats I make up a porridge mix with 2 heaped spoons of milled flaxseed to one of chia seeds and a little oatbran. Add more seeds and or chopped nuts plus cinnamon and a little salt (we need to add salt to our diet if avoiding over-processed foods).
Use 3 heaped dessert spoons with up to 200 MLS of hot water. I microwave mine for 2 minutes but any way you cook it is fine. Serve with double cream.
That's my main non-veggie fibre for the day.
Small amount of beans are ok.
I use small amounts of butternut squash, acorn squash, etc - just check the (net) carbs per 100g as some have more than others.
Keto chocolate bars, or make your own snack with grated dark chocolate plus seeds or nuts - melt the chocolate in a bowl placed into a larger bowl of just boiled water then add the nuts. put spoonfuls onto foil or parchment and leave to cool.
Alternatively, make nut butter balls - any nut butter mixed with coconut flour until firm enough to roll into balls. roll in a little more coconut flour and store in a cool place. Add vanilla as it tastes a bit sweet.
Don't forget to add butter to veg, oily dressings to salads, butter or oil to cauliflower rice, cream on puds or in coffee. And eat cheese for snacks - when I first went low carb I kept the 20g packs of cheese at eye height in my fridge to help with sweet snack cravings.
And you can avoid keto flu (ie symptoms experienced when dropping carbs) by starting low carb slowly.
For me that was a couple of days on 120g, then two weeks or so at 100g and then down to 85g.
I was lucky as my blood testing before and 2 hrs after meals showed that was low enough for me.
