What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone on what may or perhaps may not be a day for sunbathing here in the dark and dangerous north. All of a sudden, nothing much happened yesterday although I did manage to squeeze out a couple of blobs of translucent chinese pain and water them down. Off to breakfast with our pal from LA in a while and then dinner out - maybe, before he heads off on his return leg home tomorrow. He hired an MG this time round. It’s bigger than the MGB GT I recall squeezing in and out of a couple of decades ago - would love to try it again but several body parts would fall about laughing at the very idea of it. Art bit, some colour. Hope your day is kind to you. I need to finish off this excellent Monsoon Malabar that I bought last week da’an sa’af.

Smashing kaleidoscope. Hope your plan of action reaps a good result but from what you have said about past communications, they will probably get it all wrong the next time. Still, you have their contact details now and can tell them, “we know where you are”.
Thanks...
Am I expecting a miracle from the DWP? I very much doubt it @dunelm

I was wondering how the colour and detail would change the rocks @dunelm
Very effective.

You know you would love to squeeze into that MG...

You're quite right - hair texture and colour is fascinating. My grandfather had dark, gingery coloured hair (also a very hirsute man - as kinds we used to love stroking the "fur" on his arms). My father was dark and had almost no body hair, my mother was even darker but both my brother and myself were platinum blond for the first few years of our lives. My (also hirsute) brother developed dark brown hair by the time he was 14 and I developed brown-into-auburn hair by the same age. Gradually mine became darker and you could only see auburn in bright light. Now I'm steely grey with white borders while my brother is pure white (what he has of hair on his head).
6.2 this morning so hopeful that the fasting will kick in and get lower as during the day they are lower 6s -5s. I refuse to dye my hair, I have seen too many disasters in my line of work o_O I am looking forward to having translucent hair so I can match all the colours of the rainbow! Off for my work out, reluctantly :arghh:

Maybe an email. To your MP might be in order I do wonder how many people are affected by this.

Fbg this morning 6.3 better than yesterday’s.
A good idea @JohnEGreen
I can easily do that.
He is probably unaware that this is happening.
I can't be the only one. There could be hundreds or thousands or more...
People will miss out on this important CD letter with not realising the importance of it, and not having the means to play a CD etc etc...

You have a good day.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen. Happy woke Tuesday, in fairness to the woke brigade on Tuesdays and only Tuesdays I identify as Loretta.

These bloodie high heel wellies are going to be the death of me.

I hate woke, but I thought me, me’s and myself would try to understand more about this woke philosophy and went enrol on a woke course, but it was running on a Thursday, so that scuppered that. Tuesday is woke day

Now have the best day you possibly can.
Stay safe and avoid covid enquiries.

Loretta.

Morning all. The thread semi literate village idiot here from what now resembles the desolation of Smaug outside. Thanks be to God Sunday is Advent Sunday when spiritually and in The World two very different kinds of light, hope and cheer arrive. No fbg as Stefan from Parcelforce is, like Santa Claus, coming to town (later) If anyone thinks I’mma stabbing ever again you’ve misread me badly. We will be having organic, grass fed beef later. Woke enough for you Loretta and how have you sneaked tech into the jungle? The beef sounds fine until one reflects on just how much latitude UK laws allow for labelling. Still, Ocado flash sale means it was cheaper than the bog standard version so we can feel we’ve done our best for our wallet/purse and grandchildren. @dunelm I’m no Sister Wendy, God rest her soul, but thanks for the majestic art. Enjoy breakfast and lunch. @gennepher I really hope your plans work and the issue is resolved. Despite it all you remain so resilient. Thanks for sharing the amazing kaleidoscope. You’ve all suffered enough at my hands for now.

Thank you very much @ianpspurs
I very much do not think they can resolve a screw up of that magnitude. How many others are affected, hundreds? thousands? more?
As for their communication issues with me being a deaf person they haven't got it right in the last decade....
I cannot remember what I wrote yesterday, but I refined it a bit and added a bit more sort of working out what to say in my emails today/tomorrow.

Let me add a bit more from what I wrote in the night...because you may not be aware of these details as well...

"I was shocked. All my personal details were spoken by this computer voice. Full birth date, other numbers, full national insurance number and more. Other full dates were on here, and qualifying dates for my Pension, and more details. It spoke of my bank details and gave partial figures, and gave the full unique identifying number with it for my bank. It spoke of my text number, partial details again. It had my full name and full address.

The automated voice goes on to say, "Making this decision (about my pension money and it gave financial details) is based solely on automated processing..." and then goes on to say if I object to the decision made by the automated processing, then I can ring this telephone number for free (I cannot because I am deaf) or I have to have someone in charge of my affairs who can act on my behalf. I have one month to appeal against this automated decision. The date on the CD is 6th November. I received this on the 20th November. And it said 1st class post on the envelope."

There is a long time between 6 November and 20 November for a first class letter.

If the wrong person got hold of all that or it got posted through the wrong letter box...the government have given away a whole pile of my details...

My issue now is not just about communication issues between them and me...

It took me an hour getting into Carlisle and back c.30 miles, the better half comes back on the bus which I shall pick her up from. Walking is out of the question our nearest bus is a mile and half away.

There is no terminal for certain brand of credit card in N.W.Cumbria and the bank wants me to use a terminal to set it up.

They have no idea what they have done closing branches I cannot walk round Carlisle and it's 30 mile round trip. One guy on a help line found it incredulous we didn't have a mobile phone signal.
What planet do these people live on?

A lot of letters from big organisations are dated when they are prepared, but it takes many days to get them through the dispatch system - when some clerk gets around to it, then, when the sorting office gets them, if it is a large number of the same items, it may take a day or so to get them delivered (fewer posties than there used to be and lots of advertising material to be delivered as well - usually to be redirected straight into the bin). It doesn't bother that department that it gives you less time to respond. Also sending them out at this time of year is a mistake with heavier loads for posties to sort and deliver. Things can go missing. If it was a special delivery (should be signed for once again, post covid) there should be a record within the delivery office of when it was sent. With the kind of material that was on the CD, it should have been a special delivery.

I suspect it is an exclusive one, which invisible people don't appear on.

Yes, the big organisations are notorious for not giving you enough time to respond with all the delays in the system.
I agree Ann. With the sensitive material on that CD it should have been special delivery.
The postal system is overloaded this time of year.
And bags are left piled up until they can deal with them, at least that is how it was in the days when my ex-husband was a postman...

Thank you so much @Annb for your very kind offer.

I was about to take you up on it, when I was trying out another way for playing the CD through an old speaker system, which fortunately retained some battery charge. It was not loud enough initially for the Android Live Transcript to convert the sound into written words.

I am totally shocked at the level of detail on this CD on my records with the DWP.

Thanks for your lovely kind offer, but I have enough on the Live Transcript (I kept the history of the words of the spoken letter), to take something serious up with the DWP in Wolverhampton.
They probably have it all down on a computer so they know who to come and get if they have the Proles revolt. :)

Thanks @Annb

When too much mail comes in to our local sorting office, special deliveries are sent out asap, parcels and packages are delivered the same, or next day, letters get left until the second or third day. That means, if those letters came in on Friday afternoon or Saturday, they won't be delivered until the Monday. 1st class makes no difference. It's the only way they can manage given that over the last few years, deliveries have been combined so there is a heavier workload for the posties. Alistair often leaves town with his van chokker-block with parcels and no space for another package. If the mail comes in late, his manager orders that only parcels will be delivered. The mail often comes in late for several reasons. It might be that the Inverness van didn't get to the airport in time for the plane to catch its take-off window. It might be that the plane breaks down - happens fairly often. It may be that weather conditions mean the plane can't fly. When that happens the mail might be sent to catch the ferry 3/4 hour away, if the driver is fast. It might miss that ferry and have to wait for the afternoon one, so only local mail delivered that day because the mainland stuff only gets here about 8.30 pm. Sometimes there are so many parcels that the plane can't carry them so a local haulier is employed to bring them on the ferry - late again so they stay in the haulier's yard until next day.

It all tends to delay important items and leave them at risk of going missing. Special deliveries, however, are handled with more urgency and locked away until they can be delivered.

EDIT: When my Dad was a postman (as he used to say "when postmen rode horses and wore high hats") everything that came in had to be delivered as soon as possible. There were about 4 deliveries a day, including Sundays. They just worked whatever hours were needed to get the job done and deliveries carried on into the evening. That was in London and the job was very labour intensive. Certainly my Dad was proud of doing the job well and getting mail securely and quickly to its destination. Mind you, deliveries only consisted of a few streets for each postman. Streets of blocks of flats and no lifts. Great for developing strong leg muscles!

JKP likes a series called Modern life is Goodish. The blessing of this thread is that I am now far more conscious of the range of issues others face to contradict that. Although I barely disguise my utter disdain for the mad, bad and dangerous to know tail wagging the Natural Party of government here and Populists in general, I’m little impacted really. Pray God it remains that way. This little close is not quite a gated enclave but the populace seem to harbour delusions of grandeur well above their true station in life. Like many parts of the myth that is Middle England, that is delusional, Whilst not part of the pooh show “out there ” they/we are not, and have no chance of ever being, part of the real elite. Fake it till you make it doesn't work statistically. Ocado deliver, I subscribe to the Guardian, so I'm in the tofu/smashed avo on sourdough munching wokerati by definition and inclination. This isn't my natural habitat. However, our (the wokerati) bowels also open and if you cut us we still bleed. Despite my serious doubts about any real impact on my T2 resolution from being here, I thank you all for opening my eyes to what is really happening "out there." I had the tacit knowledge it was awful but not the extent of the utterly awful omnishambles people’s lived experience has become. One always filters the media for bias and exaggeration so In many ways this is like live reports from a far away war zone so alien is it to me. God bless and keep you all because the bitter lessons of history teach that no one else will.

At times, quite like that, but most of the time it was like eggs hard frying in a lot of oil. Crackling and hissing so that the voice couldn't be heard at all. Zoom would cut out every 2 or 3 minutes. Logging in would take several minutes and sometimes just wouldn't do it at all. Much better now. Just hope it keeps up the good work
Your speed is decided by how far the copper over head line comes from your house before it joins to the fibre broadband.

Mine is 1.5 miles and I can't get more than 21mbts/sec. The over head lines acts like a Low pass filter.
The length of copper overhead line determines your internet speed.
Sounds like there also was some poor contact on perhaps two places on your overhead line.

Neil tells me that the engineer said that each pole has a "spare" connection, which he used the first time he did the repair but it seems that, at some stage, someone did service it and used the "spare" but he didn't know that and connected to the original thinking it was the spare. That's why there was a third repair that had to be made. Don't know if that makes sense to you @lindisfel.

Apparently we were lucky to be getting 30 ish Kbps but now we are getting something in the Mbps range. And, so far, it hasn't dropped out.

Still no phone, unfortunately.
