What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Just heard that DIL, just before she went to Glasgow, bought a new puppy (online from somewhere on the mainland) and arranged for one of her sons who live on the mainland to pick it up and bring it to his sister in Glasgow before she returned to the Island. It is a cross between an American bulldog and a black labrador and has the colouring of a rottweiler. That is going to be one unpopular dog in the village. And meantime, that's another job for Alistair to deal with - looking after a young pup and house training it! I love my DIL, but sometimes I wonder what she is thinking. When I told Neil, he said nothing just compressed his lips and rolled his eyes.
To be perfectly honest, your DIL is trying very hard to win the unpopularity stakes @Annb

I would agree but actually, I don't think she's trying, she just doesn't think things through. She doesn't think of consequences when she comes up with ideas and has suffered as a result of bad decision making. She has a lot of people who love her dearly, but she also has made enemies. A very good hearted, well meaning and hard working soul. We all have our flaws, so I shouldn't criticise, but I do worry sometimes.

Boy Badger is lounging about on the swing, and then tugs at the TrailCam knocking it askew, and then Fox gets on. Fox is Foxy Loxy who I have been following since last year, and he looks a magnificent beast now with luxurious tail. He visits every night and has no interest in looking for a female companion which I would have expected him to do this year.

Creative is a drawing using my Pentel Brush pen. I have a book recommended by my Chinese Painting teacher, CathyWu, from the early 1990's, and she said copy, copy, copy, and that was how to learn. So I am using this book for inspiration at the moment.

And here is my attempt this morning, but my hand is not very steady to hold a brush. I nearly didn't attempt the man on the boat...I prefer flying birds, much easier to do...

Have your best day.

I am having a bed rest day, with the fancy cat hot water bottle. He is cheaper than an electric blanket...hang on, not with the food he eats...

Brilliant - love this kind of work as well.

I wasn't criticising, I am just not very good at pursing my lips as a comment.
I have probably (well have) done what she has in the past, if I am honest. She is not doing it consciously, I realise that.
I would worry for her too @Annb
I've taken in loads of stray cats in the past...which didn't make me popular...
Hugs. I hope it all works out.

Good morning everyone on what may just be a tad warmer here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.9 this am. Thanks to a big box of magic potions the pain is subsiding in left knee and I am not staggering about like someone drunk on cocktail cannabis, chloroform and morphine (exciting as that may be!). Back this morning to discuss results of blood tests. It’s the Christmas Farmers Market tomorrow so I need to be steady on my feet to wander round sucking my teeth and declaring, “how much!”. There will be some free warmth and tea in the community hall as well. Their koffy is dreadful so we have the tea - it’s OK - they do try their best so very thankful. Art bit, more dip pen. I think that I will do some more with this, but here it is. Have a smashing Friday if Friday is your chosen day. I really must get some koffy.

I love this so much in its simplicity as it is @dunelm
I find it an inspiration...
I wonder what you will further do with it...

I didn't think you were criticising, Gennepher. I was just reminding myself not to do so.

Morning all. I was going to say it is Sunny here but it is actually Friday and the birthday of our *middle son. Good memories of that day and also sadness that so many cast members are no longer here. He and his family are in Winchester.which feels like a major personal failure, especially since DIL’s parents live in France and we help his brothers so much. Two dogs and 93.99 yo MIL are an issue - dogs can go in kennels though. We are meeting for a "family" meal with two other sons on Sunday - in Milton Keynes - 2 grandchildren missing :bigtears: . To me one can’t have a family meal in a restaurant - it is just “wrong” but logistically that is all that works. Another DIL's brother is getting married on the other good date. We did hire an Air B and B "down" there once but the cast list has grown greatly. and so have the problems. Two poems today on a theme repeated day after day here in various ways. Like a water colour compared to those vivid ones but showcasing the very best of us as humans. Care for our nearest and dearest (be they very close or across the channel) neighbours cared and prayed for, God’s creation lovingly fed and protected, love in every lesson and move planned and delivered, advice freely given, sharing (practical) jokes, humour or woodworking and baking skills, - Kenosis. Y'all recognise yourselves. C16th poem here C20th one here very apt for JKP and I today @dunelm and @gennepher thanks for sharing the art - Narnia theme today in my strange mind. @gennepher have a rest today and @dunelm I hope you heal well for the big spend tomorrow. @Annb I think Neil’s reaction would have been mine: I’m imagining @dunelm reprising that scene repeatedly on the morrow. @Jacks1213 big hug. Cancer is a bit of a barsteward - ain't it just?. Personally the idea one can stand up to it drives me mad in its inanity - perhaps arrogance is a better word? - but I thank God for the effort people make on behalf of all we who succumb. Enjoy your day even though I post this drivel. *(subtitles work well on song)

Did you mean this one Ian? I am assuming so.

0245 BG 9.9. Now 8.5.

No word yet about DIL getting home. They were tryiing her on "soft" food yesterday. An advance anyway on tube feeding although my brother says the food he was given when they closed hs tracheotomy was absolutely foul and he refused to eat it most of the time and eventually doctors had to give in and allow him to have real food with real flavours. I imagine it will be a few days more before she will be fit to travel home. At least we can be thankful that the operation itself appears to have been a success and she is past the danger of being paralysed from the neck down.

Alistair is still managing to keep the laundry going single handed alongside his extra Christmas post duties - running on empty, I think, but still running. He'll need his days off at Christmas (no doubt taken up by cooking and baking for the family).
Oh that’s tricky. We once had discussions about a dog when the children were younger as the children fancied the idea. I did say at the time that in no way would I oppose the idea but at the same time would not be responsible in any way for training, walks, feeding etc., and it certainly would not be allowed upstairs. We didn’t get the dog - some folk think they would like to have a pet but then won’t take responsibility for it. I hope it works out.

Yes for the C16th century one. Luci Shaw for the C20th. I'll adapt the link in my first post. Thanks @Annb I used your link so hope it works now

Have to agree.

For some it's just the latest fad or accessory...(lockdown pets, anyone )

For others it's a beautiful little soul that's brought into the centre of the family, a life that needs nurturing, loving & caring for.

Usually god willing, for many a year.

Another hoping this works out.

When he was small Alistair was afraid of dogs. So we got a collie pup which, we were assured, was a male. A month or so later we realised that the bundle of fluff was actually female, with all the extra problems that brought with it. She was a lovely, sweet natured dog though and a great pet. Being in a sheep farming area, we made sure she was scared of sheep with horns (harsh, but it was safer for her) and we made sure Alistair was heavily involved in her care. Result? Alistair is one of the few posties around here who can go into pretty well any address without the dogs going crazy. He likes dogs but would be just as happy without one - and they have 3 now! The problem is that nobody has so far taken the time to train the dogs they alfready have or have had. Alistair does take them for walks and he is slowly getting them to walk more or less to heel, but the dogs are too big for anyone else to manage so they are a bit unruly. No harm in them, but boisterous. That can be quite alarming to people not used to them. I had a word with Alistair when he came in with the mail and told him he MUST start training the pup right away - not wait a few weeks or months, but right now! He agreed, but goodness knows when he'll have time to do it. I don't think he's very good at it anyway.

That's unlike Neil, who never took much to do with our dog and wouldn't have one now but he has a way with him that gets dogs under control quite rapidly and I think he would be the best person to take this new pup on board, but he doesn't want to have anything to do with it.

I saw a picture of the new pup and even now it looks like a small rottweiler - it's going to be very unpopular among the flockmasters around here.

It's not going to stop is it?

My best wishes to you all as always.

What a simply splendid piece for today. Man on the boat is smashing. Can’t quite make out the name of the book or the publisher - probably out of print. Enjoy that fancy cat hot water bottle.

Thank you @ianpspurs and enjoy that family. It’s my youngest sister’s birthday today - won’t be seeing her, she lives in Portland, Oregon. Probably very busy today anyhow doing her lawyer stuff. I remember all the platitudes and some ‘alternative’ advice given to my sister who had cancer - uttertly bonkers. We, her immediate family spent her last year with her as much as we possibly could, saw lots of places she wanted to visit. Laughed, got very drunk went to Amsterdam so she could visit koffy shops - she had a nice last year and all without special herbs and other nonsence.
