What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

02.08
9.35am FBG 5.3 been up for ages but forgot BG. Not eaten yet though.
This large roasting tin was left out to cool last night. It was full then.

As you can see Kiki has had a midnight feast. Am amazed at amount she has eaten. No breakfast required this morning and the remaining courgette pieces have been frozen, clearly marked "for cat"
The hot and humid weather has caused the kitchen door to swell and stick. Kiki has discovered it's possible to open it if she tries hard enough. You can imagine the scratches on the door!
It seems we were very lucky for the storm day before yesterday caused considerable damage close by.
Reports say it was over a months worth of rain in 90 mins. Both of the nearest towns were badly affected. One on either side of us, so really very, very lucky.
Both our water cubes are full once more, having gained 800l from the storm before overflowing.
Edited for factual accuracy.

@Annb Thank you for your kind words and maybe you could try this trick to stop churning thoughts. It does work sometimes. Try to think of random, non associated words.
Harder than it seems at first.
Eg: horse stable not allowed
Horse hotel not allowed
Horse cucumber ok
Hope this helps.
Sounds like a good idea. It's unusual for me not to be able to get to sleep. Staying asleep is another matter, of course. Anyhow, I finally conked out at about 10.30 and slept for about 3/4 of an hour. Feeling much refreshed now.

BG was 9.2 when I gave up on getting to sleep at 01.30. Came through to the kitchen, typed up some of the thoughts that had been whirling around in what passes for my brain these days, took some paracetemol to ease the joints a bit, had some warm milk, went back to bed. Surely to sleep this time, but no. Gave up again at 03.30, came back to the kitchen, tea, watch TV (that usually puts me to sleep but not this time), little jobs around the place and eventually breakfast at about 08.15. BG still in the 7's. Insulin to cover pea, spinach and lettuce stew with 2 eggs poached in it. Did some cooking (ratatouille and cut up some experimental halva that I made before my arthritis hit to take to the family I am visiting this afternoon and packed it in a container). Now there are dishes and pans to be washed and I'm beginning to feel dozey. Typical! There's probably time to have a short sleep before getting ready to go out.
I'm full of admiration for your determination to use your baking gifts for the benefit of others however difficult your own circumtances. I hope you have a wonderful time with the family you are visiting and they appreciate the gift you are taking. Some very caring and sharing people on here, very humbling.

Agreed, bruised is better, but still painful and total recovery is still about three weeks. Will have to tell grandchildren to hug gently.
My problem with preparing for house viewings is that the first was unscheduled- "can we come in twenty minutes?" Leaving me feeling a bit paranoid, could this happen again?
So small messes that would normally be ignored are now pressure points.
Have been on a marathon weeding session. Only about two metres left to finish weeding the entire drive. Of course it won't stay weed free for more than two days, but I can enjoy it looking clear for the first time since forever.
I do appreciate that my worries and concerns are small potatoes compared to many others here.
My main concern, not worry.
Never over worry about owt!
If you do, it just doesn't help with decision making.
We know the tendency towards cleaning before the cleaners come.
They don't worry about it, nor should you!
My latest concern is getting enough sleep.
Not getting to sleep.
Obviously I fuss around Mrs L and the best laid plans etc. Plan b is over worrying.
Being proactive rather than reactive.
Plan b is that. Only when it happens. If, if if!!!!
If is the biggest word in the dictionary.
If is something that could, might, happen. But it is more likely not to!

Oh yeah 6.6 this frantic Friday.

If we all do 10,000 steps each day, drink olive oil and consume Barberry, ginseng, bitter melon, ginger, cinnamon from Ceylon, sage leaves and eat Waitrose salmon, 30 mixed seeds, pulses and wild partridge feathers - will the benefits outweigh the cost or is it all tax deductible?
What do you think us lot are?
Robots?
Hang on, Waitrose?
There is a few of us lot that are city dwellers on a pension.
We are not posh millionaires.
dear me!

Yes for us marching out of married quarters involved the SWO and a pair of white gloves God help you if there was a speck of dust any where even down the back of the toilet cistern.
I think in the time we’ve been married Judith and I have moved house about 15 to 20 times. We have led a rather nomadic life.
In my seventy years.
Moved five times!
Been here thirty plus years.
Hate moving!

Frankly my dear, I've come back to my original opinion on the healthy eating/wellbeing front that it is almost certainly all a load of cahones. Matthew 6 :27. Elsie Keto has made me quite (well more) cynical - cui bono? I appreciate the variety of opinions and ways of handling the lifestyle conundrum here but the most parsimonious summary seems to be you do you - (just don't harm anyone else in the process) You can't take it with you so spend it on what floats yer boat - even if that's sausages or, God forbid, black pudding:playful:
I like that!
being as fussy, as intolerant as I am.
I can only eat what I have found out is ok for me.
my tastes are mine.
We are individual, so are our health issues.

My mother has type2
I cringe at her breakfasts;
Sliced banana with grapes/ strawberries.
Although she eats very little bread, rice or potatoes and never pasta. That is as far as she will go on LC.
fruit is different in how the glucose is derived.
And even with my RH, pieces of fruit throughout my window, doesn't effect my BG levels.
I would even admit, that about a third of my dietary intake is fruit.
but finding out if it does is important.

Cloudy and overcast here in the peninsula.
rain hopefully later, garden desperately needs it. And of course the footie pitch outback.
it is still warm ish.

Mrs L has not noticed the decorating has finished, even though we watched the tele, sitting in the room last evening. Having a lazy day today, if I can, so far so good.

Apparently, my daughter is taking part in the Olympic games.
or someone from the U.S. has the same name.
She won anyway!

Last bit now.
still no resolution with test strips, I have been told by the meds team in my medical group that at my next appointment with dsn or doctor, I should try and get it sorted.
However, Mrs L 's patches, has I hope been resolved, but not to my expectations, I have to request them every two weeks by phone to the pharmacy, to order them for delivery, it is on the computer, but not part of her prescription now, I think!!!
But I'll just phone this Monday and see what happens.
What a kerfuffle!

Have a great weekend, Sun has just popped out, I think I will go and enjoy the garden.
My best wishes to you lot, I'm glad you're here.
Stay safe.

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and a loverly bright one it is.

Blood Sugars this morning were 5.3 .

A pleasant tale to tell.
Last Wednesday evening at about 6:00 pm Mrs J received a phone call from her cousin and his wife who live in British Columbia, Canada. They were in Wales and asked if they could come to Tilehurst Towers, stay over night, Thursday, returning to Wales on Friday afternoon. They fly back to Canada this coming Wednesday.

Mrs J said yes to them coming and staying overnight.
This necessitated a bed to be made, a massive change of the plans Mrs J had made for Thursday evening and multiple phone calls to her local family telling them that the Canadian family would be here and come to Tilehurst Towers food and beverages would be provided along with much laughter, merriment and tales being told.

Hence early national bin day morning Mrs J accompanied by me, me’s and myself were in the local Tesco’s at 8:15 am stocking up for our hastily rearranged menus. Provisions dealt with our day could proceed as planned with the Canadian family not expected between 4 and 5 pm……

Hence we met up with some friends for lunch at the local café. Guess who arrived early? Yep. Finding us not at home, they parked up and walked to the local cafe intending to have a koffy and wait for us to return.
They surprised Mrs J by sneaking up on her, cry’s of delight introductions were made with them joining us for lunch.

The Canadians finally left at 1:00pm today Friday and are now stuck in horrendous traffic on the M4 heading back to deepest Wales, where they live in Canada the traffic density is minimal and the population count is probably 1 person per square mile.

Mrs J’s plans for Thursday night have been rearranged for Saturday night.

It’s nice that they know they have a bed here when they need it and have stayed on a few occasions.
Sorry for the long posting, but it’s nice to write about a pleasant time.

Probably back to normal tomorrow.

That is really nice of you to put up our Canadadian cousins.
I have been notified of a Yorkie invasion of family tomorrow and other family returning from abroad (N.Wales) holidaying. So other family will know this through Morse code messaging or whatever they use on their talk boxes. So a quick trip to the local shops and a houseful of clan to be entertained.
More than likely, Mrs L will not remember and suggest us going for a day out!
Mind you......... Not a bad idea...!
Happy days..... I think...?

Help........!

Sounds like an amazing day, that just fell into place @alf_Josiah

It is lovely to have good news and surprises!

All stray cats and birds (magpies and pigeons included) disappeared with the heat yesterday, 29C. Midnight disappeared all day as well. He emerged at sunset. Came to bed with me and hogged my fans and misters. This morning I woke up early, my round the neck fan seemed to have stopped working.
Battery run out?
No.
Just Midnight hogging the fan with his nose right over the fan...

Three Badgers
Ma and Pa badgers with their Boy Badger from last year.

Creative...using Chinese black ink, my fingers, and kitchen roll. And black Japanese Kuretake Manga pen, and my new purchase - a white Kuratake brush pen.

Have your best day...

Another captivating video. Your badgers always look busy @gennepher. I suppose nights are shorter at this time of year, so less time to forage for things to eat before day breaks.

Thank you also for sharing three beautiful ideas using your new Japanese pen to full effect.

Friday's FBG 4.7 mmol on waking at 6.00 am.

Good morning everyone on another day full of anticipation here in the dark and dangerous north and my mum’s 89th birthday. There it is, 5.8 again. Almost as suspect as John Bowlby’s adaptation twin study data. Oh well. A fun packed 8 mile day yesterday. Skate park - no, not those big circular affairs full of children skating round in circles with little metal plated skates on, held to the feet with a couple of leather straps. No, a humps and dives and rails thing. Then back to the house to stash the scooters before an adventure on little used paths through the woods and down to the crowded beach. Ice creams and then back through different woods. Round to daughters house for fond farewells by the grandchildren. We are meeting their parents at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park this morning to spend a couple of hours with them before they are whisked off home. Art bit, a tree sketch. Hope your day is a fine one, the good life is just where you are. Koffy, must be time for a koffy.

Morning all from a cooler L.A. where there has even been some light drizzle. @Krystyna23040 hugs for both the hot venue last night and the busy day today. @dunelm happy birthday to your mum, good step count and all round day yesterday, thank you for the art and photos. Youngest grandchild - the Little Guy ™ - is 3 today so a celebration has been organised. As #2 son, wife and two girls plus the other L.A. dwellers will assemble in the Real Fens - very near the Ship of the Fens which he loves and calls The Castle - to give thanks to God for the milestone, the joy he brings, precious time together or just eat cake - 12 gms in my case. I hope you all find some pleasure today.
