What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Fbg 6.7

A very long day for me today. I had a click and collect to pick up, in one direction, and I was travelling in one direction for that and then I had to come back again exactly the opposite direction pass where I live right to a town opposite direction to pick up something that I ordered nearly a week ago and I was going to lose if I didn't get it, it was the snow and ice that stopped me picking it up sooner. I didn't think it was worth the risk in that very bad icy weather. But today I was braving rain and high gusty winds. Got drowned each time I got out of the car,

Then as I was coming back home, something else came in a couple of days early, my phone alerted me (a silent alert on the home screen, I do not have noise alerts when I'm driving). I had just stopped to have a cup of tea from my flask to go with a pastie I had just brought. I do like hot beef pastie for treat from Greggs. And it was piping hot.

So I decided to go and pick that up so I wouldn't have to go out another day. By the time I get home I just crawled into bed, electric blanket on and went to sleep. I had driven nearly 50 miles....It was a catching up day today, normally I would have just picked these things up more leisurely on separate days.

And now I have the lightweight snow shovel I wanted!!! I did have one but I couldn't find it, but I shall put this one in a safe place....

All I want to do is sleep until tomorrow...

good luck with your further research on the impact of steroids and nutrition @ianpspurs.

Today was really strange. I had non-stop classes and 1:1s from 9.30am to 3.30pm in my venue. Not one break. My ankle was completely pain free and not once did I need the Nordic poles. Even after the journey home and the 4.30pm Zoom class - absolutely no discomfort.

It makes no sense at all that I had so much pain in Friday after a very relaxing day and only 3¾ hours of teaching.
I know sometimes, when your mind is elsewhere, and busy, the pain goes away.

Sorry for repeating but for many of us, and our families this conversation may have massive impacts.

I watched this, this morning.
And I get both sides of the dispute.
If it is a well run surgery and it is supervised, there should be no issues.
However, as always, we have surgeries that are useless, ask @gennepher!
I have seen it and read it on this forum, where a dsn, takes the diabetic patients cos the GP hasn't been trained in diabetes etc. And
Then there are the GP's who will abuse the system.
And those that just don't want Physicians assistants.

This is where the privatisation of general practice, has its drawbacks and once again the Tories did nothing about it, and now it's up to the new government to sort the issue. Which like the fudging of so many ways this country does things is so wrong.
Hope no one has a flat in a leasehold property!!!
The only country in the world that allows this thievery!

It’s raining the temperatures is 15 degrees and it’s windy.
Our GP’s surgery does have Nurse Clinicians but am not too bothered about that as if we want to see a doctor we can it’s a matter of preference though I do understand that some surgeries don’t give a choice and I would not like that personally.

Just having a hot cup of tea from my flask... it is 4:30 am
Daughter in Australia needs to talk online much earlier now the clocks have changed so I have to be around and fully awake by 6 am.

I can go back to sleep afterwards.....

But I am looking at a letter that came yesterday from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. It tells me I have an appointment at my home one morning in January next year with a continence nurse. I have never asked for a home appointment. The appointments always has been at the health Centre. And this is what I prefer.

The letter is badly written, it has been cobbled on top of a previous letter prior to 2020. It actually didn't quite make sense.

The letter tells me to record all fluid intake for a few days before this woman arrives and all fluid ejected from the body as a result of that intake. I have to measure it in millimetres. It tells me that she is going to examine my medicines to see if they are right for me, and she's going to examine my food intake. She wants to know what I'm eating.
And more. I need a water sample taking early in the morning for her and I also have to make sure that I have a full bladder for when she arrives to the appointment. I can't see that going too well for me. She has asked me to provide facilities for her to wash her hands with soap, and paper towels to dry her hands. And to lock up any pets in another room.

This is a sudden shift for me from walking into my Health Centre appointment with the now continence nurse, and the nurse saying, Hi is everything okay, no we don't need your water sample, and I say yes and she says okay bye-bye you can have your pads for another year.

Either they have pulled their socks up about the inadequate system/checking service they have provided for the last so many years, or else there is a bit more to this a bit more to this.

I am afraid I don't wholy trust it. As I said it is actually not explanatory enough for someone who has not been asked to do this kind stuff in preparation for the nurse beforehand. I only know what I should do with this because of the brilliant continent nurse I had many many years ago.

Anyway, I have time to think about it....

As usual, there is no alternative contact number apart from a telephone number. No email address either. I cannot write to her to warn her that I am deaf and I will need some extra consideration etc. That information to alternatively contact her is not on the letter and yes I can write, but I don't know that it would be getting to the correct actual department, because that information is not on the letter.

So this is another added stress for me.... and feeling more vulnerable because I may have a stranger in my home that I cannot lipread adequately or understand, and that I have not been able to give them warning before hand... I do not have someone I can ask to sit in with me.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen, yes it is a good morning here because I woke up a simple thing and I’m profoundly grateful for this.

Blood sugars this morning were 6.2 they were probably higher a few second later or lower, it is of no consequence.

I did have lots I wanted to write about today, but Mrs J has interrupted my thought processes by demanding I make her morning tea and in true manner this 70+ year old has forgotten what I was going to write about, so here’s a poem instead…
Roses are read
Violets are blue
Poems are hard
Bacon is nice.

Have a great day all.

Good morning all on what is at the very least either the Sunday next before Advent, Stir up Sunday 2024 - cue an earworm (also first part of the Collect for today) or just Sunday. The world is your lobster Terence. @Krystyna23040 good news on the ankle yesterday but proceed with caution, yeah right. I made some progress on the steroids and keto task, notably if I continue to use Chronometer I may need to use Americanisms as Swede and Pip and Nut crunchy PB for e.g. have no potassium according to the/its database whereas Rutabaga and Peanut butter, plain unsalted do. Why does that matter? Prednisolone may cause water retention hence more weight. Which for me seems highly linked to BG control: your mileage may vary. The CUH (Cambridge University Hospital) App MyChart gives access to so much including all kinds of data from previous full blood tests in numbers and graphs which makes it very clear how the run up to Bullous Pemphigoid and meds to deal with that have impacted a rage of markers. That App is part of Epic which not all Trusts use, (cost I imagine) all my appointments are also scheduled there and I can message "the team" @gennepher hug for the new stress from that letter and the drowning yesterday - MyChart would obviously help there. Thank you for the creative and video. I found the birds made a refreshing change from the cats, foxes and badgers, possibly as they didn't remind me of my chickens being eaten or finding random ducks' heads scattered around my garden. @JohnEGreen have a Cornish Carol lyrics attached. Do ignore, you've had the secular chune - not sure if Devon carols have tenors on top instead. Enjoy your Sunday.
Update: Just found out a different granddaughter is in hospital in Huntingdon with low oxygen, due to a virus.

Actually your comment made me think again about what happened Friday.

I had no pain when starting the classes. I was really 100% focussed on the class and it is highly likely that I didn't notice that I was repeatedly twisting it as I dashed around the class - until it couldn't take any more and let me know in no uncertain terms that I had to stop.

Yesterday I was so careful and did no sudden changes of direction on that foot - so it was perfectly happy and pain free.

6.5 this morning.
Really wild outside with 54 mph wind gusts.. Although not as bad as other parts of the country.

It is rather nice sitting in the warm conservatory listening to the wind. Definitely a day for staying in the warm and not venturing out.

l do hope your granddaughter recovers quickly @ianpspurs. There are some horrible viruses around at the moment.

Good that you made progress on the steroids and keto task. Also really good that you have so much information from the CUH app and that you can also message the team.

Interesting information about potassium.

Hopefully next week I will be more careful with my ankle.

That sounds really complex and not very well thought out @gennepher and very stressful.

Thank you for that. Granddaughter is off oxygen and will be reviewed at lunchtime. Her cousin was recently in hospital for one night with a similar condition, released next day with steroids, back at school asap and taking full part in after school clubs, choir etc. Children have bouncebackability, granddads just decompose. This one is the least likely of the five to be seen as Brunhilde, the other one is the most. As for potassium, by evening it will almost certainly be declared the most toxic substance on earth. Gotta love science, has to change with the seasons like fashion - truth my Jim Royle.

Thank you Ian.
More pigeons may be forthcoming seeing as the badger and the Fox has not visited yet due to the cold weather. . So you may be reprieved from badgers and foxes for a little while yet
Hugs for your granddaughter. I hope she recovers quickly...

Thanks for reminding me @septua. Suddenly twigged that as I use the BCP version this feast obviously won't appear, does in the Common Worship version. I shall not be dressing for dinner though, our candles will come on instead of setting an empty place as we will probaly be eating (trays, laps, style of thing) possibly watching rugby. Pembroke College is located in a particularly nice part of the City IMHO. Will you be listening - formally attired or not? slightly late for Sunday lunch.

Yes @Krystyna23040
No sudden changes of foot direction.
It took me years to realize a lot of my ankle pain was due to just that. Because this bungalow is small and there are a lot of tight turns I tended to twist my ankle to slide on the floor on that spot to turn down the corner. One day when I went flying because of the pain and landed on the floor, for some reason I suddenly realized but it might be twisting my ankle that caused the sudden sharp agonising pain.

For some months now, I have been very careful not to do that slide twist motion with my ankle to go around a corner, or when I'm going outside when my doors open outwards, I tended to do it a lot then to keep my balance because I was going down a few steps. But in attempting to keep my balance away cause my ankle to being in agonising pain and a danger of me falling. I don't do that sliding shuffle anymore I have to make the effort to lift my foot off the ground and actually turn my leg. Maybe I have to do it a couple of times to get around that corner or to open the door, because I have to turn when I'm opening the door to the outside, because I am holding the door handle to keep my balance as I step down. All my outside doors open outwards....

Actually I do think her grandad also has bouncebackability.

I think I must have "liked" your post before I saw the end note about your granddaughter. Sorry to hear that she's been sick and hope she makes a full recovery very quickly. Children do - it's us oldies (APs as Tom used to call our previous generations - Ancient People); us oldies who take a while to make any impact on a recovery programme.
