What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Morning all from a quiet start to the Sunday after all the excitement of Christmas. I don't know my fbg, probably should but I don't need to "fail" at anything else just now thanks. @gennepher thank you for sharing the video and Kaleidoscope. I hope the project and snacks brought you peace. @dunelm yesterday sounds as though it was the kind of gathering one is told Christmas should be all about. I hope Mrs Miggins and TGIB have a great time at the pantomime. Thank you for sharing the artwork. I'm intrigued that places still have a butcher. To then have one open on Sunday - unless it is in an aspirational farm shop - is beyond my comprehension. Leftovers in the freezer? Leftovers were among my favourite parts of the Christmas period, possibly as they were a "free hit" after all the saving it for Christmas embargoes and they often seemed to taste better without the pressure to "enjoy" them. Lightly salted Turkey dripping on toast, divine daahling, divine, especially the jelly. For me now there's a small window when Christmas food works and resurrecting it from the freezer devoid of context doesn't work. I'm now more of an eat once then bin and move on chap (that moment has gone), JKP keeps things in the fridge and I "recycle" them before she awakes and tries to freeze them. Just one of the ways in which it is far better that y'all don't ever meet me in real life. Enjoy Sunday but if you can run and get to N17 0AP Ange urgently needs you as a centre back.

Brilliant - plenty of time there to do loads of things - or just put your feet up.
Thanks @dunelm

I decided to wield a hammer, a heavy plumber's one, on a bin lid that would not come off.

Bad idea. My right shoulder, my back, and my left thumb at the base, all decided to join in on the cramp dance...

I think I'm going to have to give my body rest, maybe two or three weeks before I can do any odd kinds of jobs...

Resting now...supported by cushions....

Cloud watching....

Thank you @ianpspurs, yesterday was quite wonderful and just in time Mrs Miggins reminded me what the correct name is for this particular day - phew! I will await another day for a box of eggs. We have two butchers in town, neither willing to open on what has now been described as ‘Sunday’.

Quick heads up for some predicted trends for 2025. I like the glimmer - the new Hygge? - (no cats for us but dogs are definitely part of the vibe) which seems to be very like a secular version of George Herbert's, The Glance. Treat culture is surely well past its best before date now? The food one is the most parsimonious summary of what hanging out with the cool LC crowd initially did to my head: Nigel, my analyst, says another twenty years should fix it especially if I continue with the thrice daily musk infused snake oil. Totally unrelated song ;) Some lyrics

5.7 this morning.

Took Poppy around the park first thing then did the weekly shop at Aldi. It was wonderfully quiet - so we did the shop really quickly.

Got home and Nespresso machine decided it needed a descale - so descale all done.

Not sure what we will be doing for the rest of the day but am sure it will involve coffee and reading

I visited some young friends on Monday (took a contribution to the meal which I couldn't eat but I got by on just a cup of tea) because the young husband's elder brother was visiting - he is home from his teaching job in China for the holiday. I've know both these young men and their 2 sisters since they were born and am very fond of them. It was a very pleasant evening. Sadly, just before we left, their mother insisted on taking a family photograph of all of us. I'm surprised that any camera survives the experience of taking my image, but there we are. I hate being included in photos - because I hate seeing what I really look like and spoiling otherwise lovely pictures. Anyhow, she insisted so I had to get up from the armchair which is my habitual resting place in their house and transfer to the settee, to be surrounded by all the family. Picture taken, I had to get up again to get ready to leave. Not so easy from a settee with no arms to push up from. In the end the brothers had to lift me to my feet. They got me up right and let go, whereupon I lost my balance and fell right back down. No harm done, except to my dignity. They then had to pick me up again and this time I leaned forward onto my sticks and managed to stay upright - until I got outside and almost went over again, however, the younger brother was there and caught me. I hate to be so ridiculously unable to retain my dignity.

Anyhow - another event tomorrow. A "family festival" of lots of local people with children - most of them refugees from conflict in various parts of the world. It will be a pot luck lunch so I'll be taking a pot of leek and broccoli soup and a big container of pasta in a tomato and vegetable sauce. Both vegan because some of the people who will be coming are vegetarian on religious grounds. Safer to make it vegan though, just to make sure.

Hug for the balance issues but should be two winners for the social interaction and making a contribution to the meals. Special winner for making tomorrow's food vegan. Your thoughtfulness is dignity enough for several people. Take care.

Hi @Annb
Why 'sadly' Ann?
They love you and want you in the middle of the photo!

It is no good putting me in the middle of the settee, or many of us for that matter...we all have balance issues,,,,

You are prefect, just the way you are....

Lovely kaleidoscope. Zooming in I can see lots of little insect people

Good morning everyone on a red sky in the morning start to the breaking of the day here in the dark and dangerous north. The wind is whistling round the chimneys, breaking the silence of the morning. Music and lights. We have a zero gravity bed it seems and can sleep like an Astronaut. Why they didn’t tell us this when we bought it I have no idea. Maybe it was still a NASA secret and only became local knowledge when folk began to wear MAGA hats. Still, today’s job is to dig out a protractor and get the leg angle set up so that we can join in and pretend to be floating in a tin can - Can you hear me major Tom? Art bit - always subjective. New Years Resolution now written down on the kitchen chalk board - do some de-cluttering and organise our funerals. But that’s next year so I have time for some delicious koffy.

6.6 this morning.

We had a stunning sunrise today. So lovely that it is not misty and murky.

Was actually able to set about doing a decent amount of learning yesterday. So am back on track. It does feel good.

Still Will be doing lots of reading and coffee.

Morning all from L.A. where there is bright sunshine but a biting chill. I had my first shingles jab earlier so most of the day's excitement is done but we still have a grocery delivery to come. What japes chums. @dunelm I hope you solve the bed issue and thank you for sharing the artwork which, probably due to the mention of organising funerals, made Pork Chop Hill march into my sad old mind. @gennepher thank you for sharing the video and kaleidoscope, coffin shapes-n-all.. @Krystyna23040 the sunrise sounds delightful and a day reading and drinking coffee sounds relaxing. Oh no, I've said too much, I haven't said enough. I'm scanning the sports news to see if Ange has been sacked yet. Enjoy your Monday,

The house at the bottom of the hill protected by the mountain behind it..

Plenty more coffee is needed...
