What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Morning all from a grey, calm, dry, cool but double figures temperature L.A. It will become considerably colder by the end of the week. Any lights in the sky here are those from "the base" or planes, not those showcased by @dunelm. I have to say that I don't really find such displays speak to me of God's glory which is a good starting point for a New Year's resolution: must do better. Three angry letters on page? that's more the domain of fbg. @gennepher thank you for sharing the kaleidoscope, video and wish for a good day. I hope you too have a good day. @dunelm thank you for sharing the art and images, enjoy that Monsoon Malabar. @JohnEGreen wonderful to see you here with a none too shabby fbg however presented. We will have a second Christmas tomorrow so we can share present opening with #3 son's two children: they were with Mum's and her family this year. Feelings of loss/failure take many forms at this time of year. Did I just not see that coming or pray enough? If you still have the energy and enthusiasm to celebrate the New Year do enjoy doing so safely and thankfully.

6.2 this morning.

Saw a beautiful sunset on our late afternoon walk with Poppy. Colours were muted and very atmospheric.

Yesterday I decided to try out accessing my Professional Bodies training videos on my kindle fire tablet instead of my PC.

It was so much better on my recliner in the conservatory than sitting upright at the PC. I could watch a bit then close my eyes and reflect on the information and then write down the info that was useful for me and my clients.

I also did lots of switching between the studying and relaxing and reading.

Very interesting that by doing this my brain retained and understood the info much better and also was able to effortlessly work out, while I was relaxing and reading, how to effectively use what I was learning in my classes.

My cousin puts me to shame. She's almost exactly a year older than me so is into her 81st year and she tells me that she runs 4 or 5 miles every day and goes line dancing once a week as well as walking everywhere that she can. I can't even walk across the kitchen floor without the danger of falling over. Quite a lady - she's had 3 husbands and 4 children, several grandchildren and a couple of great grandchildren and she still has energy to spare!

BG 9.5 by the time I got to the kitchen this morning (04.20) but it was higher during the night and still in the 10's when I sat on the edge of my bed. At the moment, though it is 4.4 - that's after RyVita and Tartex for breakfast. Need to keep an eye on that.

One of the hazards of making contact with people after a long time and especially for me reading how others here live is that one homes in on their "achievements" and compares them to our own struggles/ lack of accomplishments. Before anyone pipes up I know I'm a fine one to talk but one never knows, me making that point may finally be a use for me hanging around here stinking out the place like the smell of fried fish. Does your cousin make food renowned throughout the whole local area or provide wisdom to this forum and to many others over the years? Is she dealing with the pain you are? Did she fight to achieve an M.A. while supporting a family? We tend to look up not straight ahead or in the rear view mirror. You are doing amazingly well at being you. Particularity is very important in both us as individuals and the here and now not just as a theological concept. Take it away Bruno. Lyrics

Probably the 3 husbands that have given the energy, my sister is the same!

Uh huh. Warts 'n' all. That's what you get with me.

Several of my friends tell me that the scars on my face aren't noticeable. I can see them when I can bear to look in the mirror but I tell myself that it's not my problem - I can't see my face most of the time. The problem is for those looking at me. I don't believe myself but I try to shrug it off. However, yesterday, a small boy I've never seen before looked at me and asked "What happened to your nose?" (That's the biggest scar.) I didn't want to mention cancer to him in case it bothered him so just said that I'd had an operation on my nose and had to have the end of it cut off. He accepted that and went away quite happily. So much for it not being noticeable! :D

8.7 at 0350 this morning. Jumped to 10.9 on the strength of a cup of tea, but calmed down a bit when I took some insulin and had some breakfast. A jolly time was had by all this afternoon, especially the children but it was very tiring. Nothing I could risk eating there, so just had the anticipated cup of tea. Just as well I had a breakfast. Time to think about a meal of some kind this evening and another cup of tea. No, a cup of coffee. A celebratory one.

Its lovely when we re connect or just find relatives we had an inkling were out there, but not too sure. I found relatives through an obituary in an American funeral directors thousands of miles away! 4 years on I have discovered lots of family I never knew on my dads side. I finally feel loved and connected, something I never felt growing up. Happy New Year to everyone on here and watch we don't get blown away or snowed in, rain and high winds for my neck of the woods but my cousins in the USA have had blizzards!

Have a New Year's Eve poem and a talk by a man I have so much time for but you are obviously free to ignore both the poem and talk. Could be the origin of known unknowns. I do miss the NYE walk with my dogs by the Fen ditches, timed so that It was just as the mist curled around them, (the ditches) then coming in to a glowing log burner and reading that poem. So much more me than a party. Happy New Year, celebrate your own way and enjoy.

New Year's day here in L.A. dawns dark and windy but I'm here and today provides an opportunity for time with children and grandchildren. This isn't heaven, or heaven on earth but like that Thrush in Hardy's poem there's something beyond what I can see and hear. Just as real as all the food, drink and presents. For me this will be far more efficacious than all the carb (and nutrient) counting - but just to be on the safe side I have run things through my app. Dare I have the scales on the dining table and weigh out the correct amount of sprouts, carrots and broccoli to hit my targets? Happy New Year from the resident LC sceptical/semi detached village madman. Oh, Ange made it through Christmas - what happened there?
