Hello everyone!
I’m Dee, I live in the SW of the UK with my daughter and my two little ladies (Jackapoos, and they’re sisters/littermates). I also have a son who is currently doing his PhD at Leeds University so I don’t get to see him much (which is horrible for me but probably not so bad for him!)
I am currently on Metformin and Forxiga but I have just been given a Px for Mounjaro and I am due to start it today. I’m nervous about taking it all. I’m used to having hypers but I have never had a hypo before and it is that bit which is worrying me.
Anyway, my favourite things are: Big Bang Theory, Scrubs, Friends, Great British Menu, Bake Off (all of them). Love comedy films mainly. Like reading. And finally, I wish I was more outgoing (so I’m rather shy).

I have been T2 for a number of years on Metformin CR and Sitagliptin. No real luck getting things properly controlled because me committing to diets and training simply doesn't happen easily - my life is too unpredictable at times.
Started Mounjaro last Sunday in the hope this will be the answer. Many of the feeds I see on Reddit have told success stories.
I need this to work - being nearly 150kg and 6ft tall is a lot of stress on my already knackered joints.

Hey, don't worry, that's what this forum is about. I was diagnosed years ago. Hopefully you have the type that you can manage with diet and tablets. Swimming or the exercise of your choice are great ways to help manage it. Trouble is - Im a chocoholic and Iike the odd prosecco. But all things in moderation ... apart from the chocolate

hi all, John here, I've had pre-diabetes for a few years and the latest couple of hb1ac tests put me on the cusp of diabetic range, proper. With that in mind I've been ramping up the testing and changes to diet, etc! As I've been doing that I have some questions (particularly around dawn phenomenon) that I'm hoping some of the community here might have some insight on. But anyways, glad to be here; what a great forum and thank you to all the moderators and people who make it happen!

Hi I’m new kid on the block , love the idea of sharing our individual experiences while living with diabetes.

Im born in Australia , my husband is English and we have family in both countries so we share our time between Scotland in the UK and the Gold Coast in Australia. I’ve recently learned that I have diabetic macular oedema. Diagnosed in October 2024. I have had type 2 diabetes for 15 years. If I needed a wake up call that was the one I needed. Since learning that I had this eye illness caused through bad diet I have been on a course of injections, lost 10 kilos, and changed my diet entirely. Although the injections do not hurt they are invasive. I’m wondering if anyone else is going through a similar road. I’m 65 years old I don’t smoke and I don’t drink. I eat pretty healthy anyway so was pretty shocked to learn my diabetes has done its thing. I’ve had months of anguish thinking about how I let myself go and asked why the doctors simply relied on giving me metformin rather than a roasting when my HB 1C was coming in at 13. Now a stable 6/7 but the damage is done. Love to hear from anyone in a similar situation .. Thanks for listening

Thank you for the information about the misdiagnosis and that I have always been LADA that has alleviated some of my confusing thoughts as hospital so far have not been very clear in my conversations with the nurse. I have an up coming appointment at the diabetes centre soon just waiting for appointment.
Medication

I currently take 4 Metformin,2 at breakfast and 2 with evening meal
Basal insulin ( humelin I) 10units am and 8units evening
Bolus insulin Nova rapid 4,3 and 5 before each meal respectively
Monjourno 10mg weekly injection on Monday
I have used a libre 2 cgm device since 2023 which I self funded until recent diagnosis with LADA which I now get on prescription.

I have not heard of DAFNE course so will do some research
Also I have not had any instruction on changing my insulin doses

I have now found thread for LADA so will post on there in future

Hello Everyone i'm Keith, I was diganosed only10 days ago, still waiting to go to the local diabetes meeting as per NHS. I had a hba1c reading of 48, which I understand is quite low. For now I want to see if I can drop it by diet only, but lets see if I can inprove, as I am not a happy chappy with the diet restrictions so far. Reading all the advice in this forum is very helpful and really glad that I found you all. I am an older person, in my 80's.

Hi @Keith L-W and welcome . 48 mmol/mol is at the lowest level that counts as diabetic so I do hope that you will be able to lower your levels by diet.

I’ve been told I’m pre diabetic, it has scared me. I don’t know whether to follow the diabetic recipes or weight watchers ones. Should I concentrate on losing weight?

I am 76 years old, a retired, senior citizen who just recently gave up his motorcycle. My A1c is 5.6–6.0. I had a kidney transplant five years ago and I’m doing very well with that. I did have one question does anyone know of a less expensive replacement or alternative to Ozempic?
My hobbies are: fishing; photography; boating and used to include motorcycling.
