Low carb shopping

Where are the best places to shop for lower carb snacks, bakery items and store cupboard?
Is everything online? Do i have to order from different sources or are there ones where i can get everything all in one place?

There seems very little in the supermarkets or shops. Even looking for different nuts was a problem today! All I wanted was some unsalted roasted. Half the shelves in those sections seem empty!
 
We get our roasted unsalted hazelnuts from GrapeTree. I have never bought any other types of roasted unsalted nuts, but didn't think they were actually a real thing. But if the supermarkets don't have them, then try wholefood/Healthfood stores either physical shops or online.
Personally my low carb snacks tend to be boiled eggs, cheese, or real low carb nuts unroasted and unsalted : Brazil, Macadamia, Walnut, Hazelnut or even Almonds - though Almonds are a little too carby for me, so I keep them to a minimum.

You doknow that both 'Peanuts' and Cashews are higher carb and are not really nuts, don't you? The proper name for peanuts is groundnuts and they are actually a legume. Cashews are very strange and grow on the end of a poisonous 'fruit'.

There are very few health food stores near me and they are usually very expensive.
I have tended to get mixed nuts as they were cheaper and more readily available but after realising which nuts were lower carb I've been buying hazelnuts and walnuts.
I do have peanuts and cashews in small amounts because I love them!

Does anyone have preferred places to shop for bakery? I've been looking at the panda company as they look interesting for home baking. I would love to very occasionally have a roll , or some decent pizza bases though.

Aldi sell roasted or unroasted nuts and .both are in different sections. The peanuts etc are along from the crisps and other nuts are usually close to the baking items.

Lots of foods are low in carbs, so no need to look for specialist places where they charge an arm and a leg for something that likely tastes like 3 week old newspapers that've been left out in the rain. Just regular, real food items, like eggs, meats, poultry, fish, full fat dairy, above ground veg and the like are usually on the shelves... Can't speak for nuts/nut-ish legumes where you are, as over here in the Netherlands we have a lot of shelves with all sorts; roasted, non, salted, non, bio, non... You get the idea. Can't help with the baking either, as I just avoid most of it now. Gluten-sensitive, meh. ;) But I gather there's options online, if you care to google keto bakery uk. :)
 
Aldi have quite a good selection of unsalted nuts under their "Foodie Market" brand.
 
We also shop at Aldi and sometimes Lidl and find everything we need there. Grapetree sells high-quality nuts and also 100% cocoa dark chocolate, of which I can eat a small amount most days.

Love GrapeTree as well but it's a long distance from home. I try to stalk up when we visit Carlisle. There is also one at Loch lomond but it's also a fair journey.

I've used SRSLY for rolls, bagels and flatbreads. All reasonably low in carb ( I think the flatbreads are highest at about 6g per wrap) and the bagels are excellent. Price is an issue compared to standard bread and their delivery via courier has had its share of problems but they seem to have got a grip recently. You can also order zero carb beer from Westbrook's Brewery.

However, particularly compared to the USA, our supermarkets do not provide anything like the range of low-carb options available there. I think in one smallish Krogers supermarket in Suffolk, Virginia I counted half a dozen different varieties of low carb flatbread plus low carb loaves and rolls.

I tend not to snack, as I eat when I'm hungry and not usually otherwise. However olives, pork scratchings, salamis (etc) cheese, some jerky (be careful, a lot of it is loaded with sugar) all work. I've found Lidl to be a consistently good source of meat products with no filler added.

I think the problem for any supplier in the UK is that it's generally so easy to find low-carb replacements or substitutes (mashed or riced cauliflower for example), and the market is still so small, that there's no profit in supplying food low in starches and sugars.

I'm trying to have at least one snack a day at the moment as I am having problems maintaining weight despite adding more protein and healthy fats as well as lots of cheese and some low carb puddings .
I was on the diabetes prevention programme but they have discharged me without any discuss saying I need more specialist advice so I've come here instead!
 
I buy unsalted nuts from the bakery section in Tesco, walnuts, almonds they also do bags of mixed nuts unsalted in the crisps, nuts isle

We don't live anywhere near a Grapetree either, so order by post. They are very efficient.
 
Tesco's sells KP's unsalted roasted peanuts - https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/299581631 (Unfortunately I think they are expensive and don't taste very nice)

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but does anyone know of any of the major UK supermarkets that have a website that will allow you to search for low carb products they sell. For example if you search for "low carb bread" in tesco's the first entry is 32g per slice and presumably only returned because the page contains the three words but the low comes from being "Low in Fat" and it certainly isn't low in carbs.

Order from Grapetree website and you'll probably find that you can get things cheaper, as they have offers there which are not available in the shops. Order enough (store things in the freezer to keep them fresh) and you get free postage - as long as you are not very remote.
Very occasionally I order from Amazon to get the more unusual things for baking - usually when we get an offer of a free trial of Amazon Prime, or they change us to Prime without actually asking which has happened twice now.
 
i have found nowadays there is generally a health food section in supermarkets which, some in particular, stock a large range of low carb/keto food products. But oh yes - they are expensive indeed. The upswing in no sugar drinks is very heartening also, usually quite a selection in the same supermarkets as the pricey but decent sized health food section with lots of low carb substitutes for snacks in particular, and breads and crackers.

Specialty low carb/keto stores in large cities much more common now, is my understanding. And yeah, there is always online shopping. But, traditional health food stores and wholesalers still a very good bet for no sugar items.

Sadly not so in the UK. There are sections for gluten free and lactose free but very little low carb or keto. I think there maybe advertising/labelling restrictions.
However there's an alarming surge in products labelled "high protein " of which most have either increased sweetners or other processed ingredients.

Online yes, but not on shelves.

Yes I agree. I'm old school and still like to use shops. That way I can easily check ingredients. X
