What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

5.1 at 01.20 today. I'd gone to bed - exhausted and very sore after 2 trips to town - about 23.00. Got to sleep fairly quickly but woke after one of my suffocating dreams and didn't want to go back to sleep right away, in case the dream continued after a short break. So up and a cup of coffee but couldn't get comfortable so went back to bed about 02.30. Still 5.1 at 06.45. This time I got up and stayed up.

Not that I really want it, but I'm wondering why I'm not getting a dawn rise these days, or even why BG stays low despite little effort from me. I don't trust it.

Ah well, just enjoy it while it lasts.

Good morning everyone from the blistering wastelands of France with the promise of 30 degrees of scorchio today but with enough warning for the pale of skin to take cover in deep, cool cellars like mushroom growers.
5.7 this a.m.
A slight argument with the bottom of the banister at our son’s house yesterday morning resulted in the loss of a small section of carefully tanned arm skin than now stubbornly refuses to allow the oozing blood to thicken up due to other bits inside whatever is holding the rest of my body together pooling water droplets in failing attempts at cooling and at the same time confounding all efforts by a variety of plasters to adhere. Grrrrh!
Inspections this morning after removal of yet another soggy plaster is more encouraging so maybe a bare arm and the relative cool air this morning, before the heaters kick in, will give it time to scab over. I shall sit in front of a fan for a while.
Minor inconvenience.
New book. Alice Roberts - The Incredible Unlikeliness of Being: Evolution and The Making of Us.
Enjoy your day. Mum’s carer has just arrived and they are busy having a pre-shower koffy. Where’s mine by the way?

Morning all on a humid start to the day here. Unknown fbg for me once again. We had a wonderful lunch with a group of friends of over 50 years in a charming pub between Peterborough and Stamford. The venue is about equidistant for us and one couple who live in Nottingham and easy access for three others from Northampton. Calamari and Lamb rump - no new potatoes for me thanks - shouldn't have rocked the bg boat too much. No dessert, just Irish coffee - JKP likes driving. #blessed. Later we stayed up to watch the football - bravo Lionesses. I had 200 mls of some Lager from these guys (we shared a can to try, so 1 gms carb by their figures) - found from the Low Carb beer thread on here. I will try some more, the Stout seems interesting given where we once lived. @Annb hug for the soreness and early waking. Be kind to yourself today. @gennepher thank you for sharing the smashing encaustic art. @dunelm glad you are safely in France although safely is relative after #Stairgate in Birmingham. Everyone else, help yourself to lashings of a fabulous Friday if possible.
Edited because the beer wasn't bigger than something else.

Good morning all. Fbs was 7.4 today after a very controlled diet yesterday. Attended an appointment to have my left ear checked as when I had my wax removed last week they photographed a "something" that shouldn't be there and sent a copy to my GP for investigation. It turned out to be a cyst so nothing to worry about. During a visit to see my friend last week she mentioned she had never owned a tea cosy and had a large teapot that she used on special occasions. I had a large padded tea cosy that I didn't use so we went to her house to gift it to her. She was delighted with it and it fitted the teapot perfectly. We stayed for a catch up and of course had hot tea. Mine was black tea with no cake or biscuits of course. :angelic: I have to admit to be struggling a little with my present diet. So much salad and fresh vegetables are aggravating my IBS, giving me indigestion and occasional hunger pangs. It's also a long time between evening meal at c 6pm until breakfast the next day at 8.30ish with no supper/ snack. I am determined to stick to this way of eating as much as possible as well as resuming my twice a week walks to avoid taking further diabetes medication but need to find better choices for meals or healthier snacks that won't adversely affect my blood sugars or cholesterol levels. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Best wishes to you all. :)

Rather like the Curates egg there. Good news that the "something" was "only" a cyst and gifting a needed tea cosy. Less good news on the impact of the diet. I have no idea how any of these products may appeal or impact you but I find the baked goods here are tasty and don't cause spikes in my levels - except the free white bread.

Thank you@ianpspurs for taking the time to send the link. :)

5.8 this morning.
As it is really hot here (30°) we have both been really sensible and not overdone things.
Am still going to run classes but will do much gentler classes t than l would normally.
It was cooler earlier this morning so we were able to walk Bonnie and had some lovely chats with fellow dog walkers over the park.

Your gran sounds so much like mine. The expression wasn't so much sucking on a lemon, more "you lot are giving me indigestion, but the sterilised milk was the same. I don't think I ever saw her smile. She was born in 1880 (she told us - her b irth certificate says 1881) and made sure we all knew how much respect she deserved for that achievement. She wasn't popular. Oddly grandad was a delightful man who couldn't do enough for her and everyone else. Couldn't see him smile though - he had a huge moustache which hid any smiles.
My grandad was a polar opposite to my nan.
He ran a pub in the Holderness area of Hull. His favourite rugby league team of HKR.
I remember he lived near the park in the area.
and was always smiling and he does remind me of myself in so many ways.
sadly died in the late sixties. Remember going to his funeral in a Ford popular, across the moors.
before the M62 was built.
there is a picture somewhere of my grandad, my mum and me, as a baby on Bridlington beach, summer of 56. Wish I knew where it was.

Today 7.6, yesterday 7.7
I missed yesterday because I had a nightmare of a day.
I won't go into detail but, it was a really stressful long day from 6am to 2am the following morning.
Mrs L was clearly not herself and until she settled into bed it was very demanding. Family, neighbours and friends helped but nothing would deter Mrs L.
a ridiculous situation which Mrs L was adamant to go through, and would not be side tracked no matter what we tried.
the mental health practitioner called in today. And it was a different Mrs L today.
Still no news, even though the mental health specialist has gone to the manager of the social services, why we haven't heard anything, nearly four weeks now.
A quieter day.
Kitchen duties, Mrs L 's steak won't cook itself!
My best wishes friends.
Oh yeah, I'm knackered!

5.6 this morning. Raining quite heavily at the moment. We are lucky that it is just a yellow warning and not an amber warning like London and down to the South Coast.

It actually is rather lovely sitting in the conservatory with a coffee and listening to the rain beating down on the roof. Have got a bit longer to relax before heading off to classes in Norwich.

3.5 at midnight, just as I went to bed. Rather than struggle back through to the kitchen where there are digestive biscuits, I had an emergency toffee and hoped for the best. That put BG up to 4.4 in a few minutes so I went to sleep. It was 5.1 when I woke at 04.35.

Bright and sunny here. It was slightly overcast earlier, but that seems to have cleared now. Will it rain later, I wonder. Still fairly warm.

I managed quite a lot of the necessary baking yesterday, but there's more to do today. Actually, just one more lot of vegan cupcakes and I can leave the non vegan ones until Monday. I'm doing a selection of vegan cupcakes - total of 20 (coffee, chocolate, vanilla, lemon and raspberry). Just the coffee ones left to do today. 20 of each flavour of standard cupcakes to do.

The Scenic has been making an odd noise recently so Neil took it into the garage to see what the issue was - we both thought it was in the suspension. Neil didn't think it was much, nor did the mechanic at first, although I had a bad feeling because of the sound it was making. I was right! Unfortunately. It's now off the road until the garage can estimate the cost and then again until the new parts come in - if it's not more expensive than we can afford. It's a problem because I have medical appointments coming up. a trip to town and back by taxi will cost about £50. Might be cheaper hiring a car on those days when I have to travel.

I used to hire a car when my car was off the road... it used to be the cheapest option... now, because my car is leased through Motability, I should always be offered a car if mine is off the road. So far I have @Annb

A packet, with a Chinese (I think) address label came in today's post. Inside was a packet of 4 seeds. I was puzzled and, briefly, thought it was a mistake by Amazon, from whom I have ordered some plants but Neil found an item on the internet indicating that it is some kind of insurance scam. I can't see how it works, but then, I don't have a devious mind. I'm not sure if I should inform someone, or if it is sufficiently well known to the authorities, not to bother.

I have no idea what the seeds would grow into, even if they did survive my "TLC" but the article Neil found also said that some of the plants are toxic. At the moment, they are back in the packet, in my desk drawer but, I don't want to just throw them out in case they do germinate and become something unpleasant which I would be releasing into the environment. It's a quandary.

Fbg 6.2

This kaleidoscope is made from my flowering tree encaustic painting of yesterday...

So many butterflies today, even between the rain....

Far too humid for me... I am having to change my clothes several times a day and maybe a couple of times at night...

The seeds are most likely of an invasive species.
It's also maybe a scam if you have received some goods from Amazon that you didn't order. What is happening is that they are trying to get fake reviews on Amazon and they can do this because when Amazon checks it appears a genuine order you'll have to Google to understand that better....

About the seeds @Annb...
I googled and I came up where they should be sent to...
"If you've received mystery seeds in the UK that you didn't order, you should not plant them or throw them away with your regular trash. Instead, you should report them to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and send them the seeds in their original packaging. The best way to do this is to contact APHA via their dedicated email address, [email protected].

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  1. 1. Do not plant the seeds:
Some mystery seeds may be from invasive species or carry harmful plant diseases.

  2. 2. Do not dispose of them in regular trash:
This could spread any potential harmful organisms or diseases.

  3. 3. Report the seeds:
Contact the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) (APHA) immediately. You can do this by emailing them at [email protected].

  4. 4. Send the seeds:
APHA will likely instruct you to send the seeds to them in their original packaging (envelope or package). The address to send them to is: Paul Bratby, APHA-PHSI, 2nd Floor, Apex Court, City Link, Nottingham, NG2 4LA. "

Thank you Gennepher. That's really useful. I'll follow that up at once. There are only 4 seeds, but you never know...

Quite a bit of rain on this 7.5 morning. Forecast not very good...... Oh yeah, the kids summer hols.
Trying to get in the garden to tidy up overgrown stuff. Dodging between showers.
Shower curtain rail fixed.
Mrs L has had a good lie in and is in a bit more pain after a bit of a stumbling last night.
When in pain, Mrs L has no appetite. Trying to tempt her, but not yet.
Dutch delight in the darts last night.
Seeds falling........... Not those seeds @Annb !!!
Best wishes and be cool like I try to be.
Grandkids laughing now...
