"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Thanks again for the good wishes. At least I can get myself out of the chair now - with difficulty. Walking is a nightmare though. Pain slightly reduced so I'm hopeful that it will all pass sometime soon. Still only one hand working but at least all the fingers on that hand are working. BG is fine but I've had very little food - just another can of tomato soup and one cup of tea. Plenty of water and pills.

It's not like any flu I ever had but must be something of the sort. The swollen hands are an unusual touch. Enough from me for today.

Keep clear of all potential lurgis, Night all.

I regard brandy as medicine!
You reminded me of a childhood memory. I was brought up in a Yorkshire doctor's surgery - although my dad was a coal miner my mum worked as a doctors receptionist. We lived in the house where the Drs surgery was on the ground floor and mum kept it clean and dealt with patients and records etc! One of our doctors used brandy as a treatment and once when our budgie fell off his perch he gave Joey a drop of brandy and Joey came back to life and carried on a few more months! My mum believed that Brandy shouldn't ever be drunk for pleasure as if needed in an emergency it wouldn't work! I also remember writing prescriptions when surgery closed and my friends called to play doctors! Nothing was locked up in those days around 60+ years ago.

Rest up and carry on recovering

That Christmas cake sounds lovely especially with the brandy soaked barberries added! I do think the high fibre and artificial sweetener content might not be for me though - I'm still a lot better with digestive issues and don't want to rock that boat too much!
Today's cake worked well and I managed 21 portions most of them now safely stashed in freezer

Those were more innocent times in many ways, weren't they?

Reminds me of being given whiskey, as a child, to treat toothache

Carby breakfast, then planning eggy lunch and chickeny tea (lunch and tea with vegetables) again - I'm not sure why I'm so samey at the moment but it's what I'm wanting so I'll roll with it.

I am snacking a bit but by no means at the same level as pre-GLP-1.

I've stalled with my tidying and decluttering. Although I've got rid of some things I seem to be just moving the rest around and not moving on to organising and putting away. At this point I'm sure the psychological element of whatever this is, is the biggest hurdle. I get so far, then come across something I don't want to deal with, or make a decison on, then everything stops.

It's a lovely sunny day here, so I'll feed the birds, get some washing done and see if I can chip away at the clutter a bit more. It really isn't that bad, and wouldn't take very long if I could just keep going.

BG stable despite little food for the last few days. I had a few tsps of Greek style yoghurt for breakfast and then Neil made me a mushroom omelette this afternoon (2 eggs), and I've had a cup of tea as well as some water - not enough fluid today, Must have some more drinks.

Still desperately sore and left arm/hand out of use. I can actually get to my feet by myself now - huge effort but I can. Then I can shuffle across the floor depending on my one stick. It's not elegant but it is practical. And I'm not exactly Speedy Gonzales. Takes about 25 minutes to make a trip to the toilet - about 20 feet from my chair. I have a new medication to add to my existing painkillers, Only taken it once so far and it knocked me out for a couple of hours, but didn't actually touch the pain.

@Annb , and with all your challenges only doing life at the moment with an uncooperative body, you still found the energy and love to send me a Sinterklaas/Christmas/New Years card!
I was so touched when I found it in my mailbox, just what I needed in my somewhat gloomy december mood, thank you so much! This was just the sweetest thing, especially with me not being too active on the forum lately.
Thank you!

Food tonight was a freezer adventure, I found half a meat loaf in the freezer meant to be eaten on the bridge in October, and made an improvised cucumber and mayo salad to go with it. Tomorrow will likey be the same, and the 25th will be a feast with family, cooked by my uncle. :hungry:

There will likely be a thread today or this week on my tentative ideas on my next holiday. I have lots of questions and am not at all sure if this is a good idea so I need time to stew, but I stew better with people thinking with me...

So a preliminary question: How crazy is camping in Scotland with a car and a small tent in November?

On a scale of 1-10?
I would say at least 20! Or more, depending which area of Scotland.
Thanks!
Sounds like it's something perfectly fitting for me in that case! :hilarious:
I need to start that thread instead of hijacking this one.
Will post a link here though. :)

Wait, I hijack this thread all the time to blather on about gardening! Surely it's ok to talk about anything here?
This thread is in the General Chat section of the forum. Description of this sub forum is: "Talk about everything and anything; world events, what books you are reading or films you've seen, what the weather was like... it's up to you."
And then there is the fact that this thread was started because we all liked chatting too much on the main What have you eaten today thread and we needed a place to keep that up without derailing the main thread.

You're all good, I love reading about your gardening even though I haven't been able to grow anything useful in my garden myself!

As for my possible holiday, I think a new thread in General Chat is better. I'll be able to find all the tips and tricks when/if the time comes in one place. And holidays are Big Scary things for me, and very unusual. Apart from some short trips in my own country, my only longer and foreign holidays in the past 25 years have been two trips to the UK in 2022 and 2024.

Completely crazy, sadly. Not only unpleasant, but positively dangerous. Much as I would like to think of the chance maybe to meet up, I couldn't recommend that at all.

Just back from seeing a nurse - for my legs but I also asked her about my very painful foot and inflamed area around my toe. She hummed and hawed and eventually went an got one of the old time doctors to have a look at it. Doctor didn't think it needed treatment as such but did think my fluid retention is worse. She wants to increase the dosage of Furosemide and insists I must take them daily and not skip them. I had to admit to not taking them since this flare up because of not being able to get to the toilet quickly. Nevertheless.... So that's it. I am housebound, never to leave home again other than for an early appointment which allows me to take pills a little later than usual.

I had some cottage cheese with a couple of digestive biscuits for breakfast. Put my BG high, but it subsided.

Alistair made a vegetable soup with some of the veg he took from the fridge and brought a couple of big tubs of it to put in my fridge so I had a bowl of that when I got home.

Not sure I'll manage anything else today.

Vegetable soup for breakfast. Only tea and pills since.
2nd meal will be whatever Alistair is cooking for his mob. He said he would bring up a plate of their main course whenever he gets around to serving it - he knows I never have a starter or a dessert. I think he mentioned chicken, sausages and beef, so we shall see what materialises.
I just remembered to ask Neil to bring the gammon from the back porch fridge. I should have cooked it yesterday but wasn't up to it anyway. I still can't get to the back porch so wouldn't be able to do anything with it. I'll just put it in a pan of water with some herbs so it will, at least, be cooked. Neil will probably have to cut it for me but one problem at a time...
Neil came back with the gammon, some bacon, eggs and a couple of haddock fillets which will go out of date today. I'll have to cook them today and keep for tomorrow.
