"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Well I was sick in the night, it's been a few years since that happened! I'm surprised because otherwise it's a classic head cold. I feel a bit sorry for myself but will try a bit of porridge and see how it goes.

Hopefully the water meter can be installed quickly today, I'll wear a mask and keep my distance. Lunch will probably be cottage cheese salad, and I'm thinking maybe chicken for tea with some vegetables.

Up at 02.50 but fell asleep again after taking painkillers and slept until 8 am. Feeling wobbly so just took some cooked and chilled oats mixed with some yoghurt and a sprinkling of freeze dried raspberry. It was there and easy. Probably not a good idea, but there we go....

2nd meal will be beef sausages, cabbage and onion.

I think I must have the flu! I'm really frustrated because it's an absolutely glorious day outside and I could be doing so much but I'm in no fit state to do anything physical today. What a waste of a beautiful day! It's forecast to be nice for quite a few days so maybe I can get going outside in a day or so.

The water meter guy came and assessed, and said I can have a smart meter installed easily, but he's behind on his work today and still has morning jobs to finish. He said they'll get back to me in a couple of days to install it.

I had some porridge for breakfast and I'm not feeling sick but I don't really have any appetite so just had a couple of spoonfuls of cottage cheese with lettuce for lunch. I might need to go and lie down this afternoon and will see how I feel about tea later.

Well, the insulin dosing must have been a bit out because I had the first real hypo in ages (2.9, sweating, shaking). Emergency action included a biscuit, a toffee and a can of semi sweet coffee. Finally got it to rise and then, of course, it kept rising to currently 9.9 and still rising! I'm too polite to say what I feel about that! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'm trying to make a cake of some sort for a lady who will not eat wheat; will actually only eat oats (she's pre-diabetic and the nurse told her to eat oats, which she now does - exclusively). I made some cupcakes yesterday, substituting oat flour for wheat flour - disaster. The plan today was to make a fatless sponge using oat flour but I'm still feeling a bit groggy after the hypo so need to rest for a bit and then I'll see how I go. Can't make the sponge yet anyway. Some of the eggs I need are just out of the fridge and I'll need to get them up to room temperature before trying to whisk them sufficiently. Also can't find my 8" cake tins so am having to use square ones.

EDIT: the cakes are just out of the oven and they look OK. Very pleased with that. I'll make a cream cheese frosting for it. Just hope she enjoys it. I need some more supplies to finish the required number of cupcakes so am hoping Neil can get to town tomorrow for some flour, fruits and eggs.

I had a bit of a rubbish night again but I'm feeling a bit better this morning, so I'll try a bit of pottering around in the garden and see how it goes.

I just had a couple of biscuits for tea last night but had my usual porridge this morning. Lunch will be a salad with cottage cheese and dinner will be chicken with vegetables.

Just thinking about breakfast. I'm very hungry but tum is feeling sore. Not sure what to do.
2nd meal is just the same as last evening - I had half last night and left the rest for today. The sausages were not beef after all, they were venison. Quite nice but not the same as beef.
Might just have some warm milk for breakfast and see if that settles the soreness. BG has just gone up to 8.2. Milk will take it higher. Heigh ho.

Glad you are feeling better today. But take it a bit easy - no point tiring yourself out and making you feel worse again.

I've had a wonderful morning so far!

I slept very well and woke up to a beautiful spring day.
Then I found I finally received the planning for my work on the bridge for the first two months. Perfect planning, I'm working 6 out of 9 weekends and 2 bank holidays. Weekends are much nicer to work, more boats, less road traffic, and on saturdays I get paid 165%, on sundays/bank holidays 200%. :joyful:

And by sheer luck I'm not planned in for the weekend my old and very ill aunt will be staying in the holiday park where I usually rent a boat. She's going with her two children and two grandchildren, and I'm invited as well. Fingers crossed she won't be too ill to go by that time.

Then the mail came to bring me a belated birthday present, thank you so much @shelley262 !
Later today I'll read about what I want to make with it, but first I'll go outside for a swim in this wonderful weather, and then I'll go to vote for the municipality.

I hope you'll all have as happy a day as I'm unexpectedly having!

I should have done that, of course... but instead I lifted a pot and tweaked my back! Hoping it's just a minor thing, I'll get a hot water bottle on it which usually helps.

I'm still very flued up and my lungs hurt now so it would be a mistake to try to cut the grass or lift anything else for the time being. I checked my oxygen sats with a little meter I have, and they're fine but I guess if I'm exerting myself it won't be fine at all.

I'm calling it a day and maybe I'll be able to potter around tomorrow a bit, at least just get outside in the sun. it's so frustrating to have to waste this weather!

Cottage cheese salad for lunch, maybe chicken and vegetables for tea but my appetite still hasn't come back.

I'm cheering you on @Antje77! I'm not having the best of days with this flu but it will go and then I'll also be loving life again :hilarious:

You are of course allowed to just sit in the sun outside, with a book if you like, and enjoy the weather. Definitely no waste of weather in this case! ;)

Thrilled they arrived and only took about a week - a real winner. Also I was discussing yesterday with one of my very best friends ( met her at university in Scotland and stayed close friends and she is our children's godmother) panda flour - as her eldest lives in Amsterdam and has two children herself - married to a Dutchman - one grandchild has type 1 diabetes so ,as she is going to see them soon, I gifted her some Panda Pantry mixes to take with her. I also made her hot cross buns and lemon drizzle cake so think she's a convert! She goes to Amsterdam every few months so can supply her daughter! Maybe she needs to be a Netherlands panda courier!
Looking toward to see how you get on when time to do some panda cooking.
Great news too 're your bridge work .

@jpscloud - inspired by your gardening efforts over the last few weeks I have made a start on some early spring planting in this wonderful weather - feel for you feeling ill when the sun makes a rare early visit but hope you managed to enjoy a rest in the sun and also hope you recover soon.
I planted some radishes in a deep container outdoors today.
My cosburg seedlings on my conservatory windowsills are now sprouting. Ive also planted some basil seeds - now also on my conservatory windowsill.
Tomorrow I'll be planting my tomato seeds - I've got 10 different seed varieties and planning to sow a few of each . Think they will also be ok to sow next year if stored as I had a mixed variety tomato seeds pack as a mother's day present.

Ah lovely! I've stalled with sowing, a few things took precendence and then the flu hit! I hope it will clear up before the weather changes. I've just had a very unhappy few hours lying in bed coughing and hurting! The cough seems to have subsided now. While I was in the garden I did move a little wormery out of the polytunnel and open it up without any plants in there, because the fungus gnats are having a roaring good time. I'll have to be very careful not to bring any outside plants into the house so it stays gnat and aphid free in here!

It's still early enough to get all the things sown, though, so I'm not too upset. Some overwintered (in the polytunnel, now moved outside) carrots are looking like they will be ready in a month or 6 weeks, so that was a success for an early crop.

My chillies, tomatoes and peppers are doing well so far but the silly sungold thinks it should flower on an 8" plant! Some of the beans are starting to show shrivelled leaves, I'm a bit worried they might have a fungal issue. I can chuck them out and try again if necessary, plenty of time.

Not going to bother with tea, I'm taking my sorry self off back to bed with a hot water bottle - my back seems to be okay now thankfully but I have chills.

Take care - you sound poorly - maybe a Dr check in if cough and hurting carries on.
Hope you manage too to keep the fungus away from your precious young plants! But as you say at least time on your side if need to resow but hope all ok.

I was going to have the puffets you recommended with cheese fondue today, but more of life got in the way in a good way, and now it's too late for proper food.
Phonecalls with my aunt and cousins about the trip in may with my terminally ill aunt. Everyone was very relieved that aunt was willing to share her holiday cottage with me for safety. Her alarm button only works at home and while she does have a mobile phone she usually doesn't manage to operate it, let alone in an emergency.

Panda cooking will happen soon!

I love smugglers!

Well I have just eaten some chicken and vegetables, a bit late but I'm finally wanting to eat. The hurty lungs have settled down a bit, it seems like I've had a different symptom each day - first was a very sore throat on Monday morning, then being sick in the early hours of Tuesday and then coughing and chills today. I've been very fatigued and achey throughout, so goodness knows what virus it is, but I am hopeful that it's going to be a good day tomorrow!

Still feeling a bit fluey with minor congestion on my lungs but I *think* I'm on the mend! I'm feeling much more positive today and I'm fine with just sitting in the sun and listening to podcasts, if that's all I can manage.

I'm going to have some porridge for breakfast, probably salad with something for lunch and chicken with vegetables for tea.

Let's hope you

Let's hope you are on the mend. It certainly won't do you any harm to take it easy for a while. I think people too often push themselves to get going again after being unwell and just extend the time it takes to get over whatever it was. Sitting in the sun sounds ideal.

Yes I agree, I think my frustration and anxiety about not doing jobs were more to do with being ill affecting my mood, and now I'm feeling better I feel much more relaxed about things!
