Have looked and looked through the forums and cannot find this .. How long have you been on the LCHF diet .. Do you intend to say with LCHF .. Or do you plan to add more carbs later .. I only ask as I have LCHF for 6 months and could not think of eating more carbs yet .. But I do still have weight to loose

How long have I been on the LCHF diet? Well around 2 and a half years first time round, then for a few reasons I lapsed for a few months and have restarted since beginning of April, this year.
Yes I intend to stay with it. I still have around 6 stones to lose (I've lost 2). I will stick with LCHF when I have lost the weight, but I will allow myself to eat more snacks like nuts and cheese when weight loss is no longer an issue.
I would like to add more carbs if at all possible, but these would be for nutritional reasons. For example it would be good to be able to eat a little more fruit - bananas and pears. It isn't my intention to go back to eating takeaways or sugar, rice, pasta, chips, pastry, cakes etc. A few potatoes occasionally would be good, but my intention now is to stick with LCHF for life. I hope I manage to stick with this plan!

Thanks Zand, i also miss apples and bananas .. but loving the blueberries and rasps I have now.. I have lost 4 st and could do with loosing another 3 to be in the weight that the public find acceptable. I am also vegetarian and carbs are becoming like meat to me now !! Just need reassurance that it is good to stay LCHF :)

Yes, generally I think it's sensible while you are still trying to lose weight. You may be able to have more carbs, even moderate carbs later on, if you test with a meter and find that you can tolerate more. That day is a very long way off for me though!

And me :)
I was most surprised and delighted that the high fat part did not make my cholesterol rise .. in-fact all my bloods returned normal and my blood pressure was also normal .. this is a first for me .. I hope to be able to cut down on some of my heart tablets soon. My hf nurse doubles up as my bs nurse some times. She was amazed at the change in me .. did not say about the new diet .. just said i was getting help from my wife and these forums. :)

Been lchf for over 2 years now. Never lost any weight tho. But I have no choice but to eat this way.

Low carb over 30 years and pretty much always size 10 bottom half, top 12. However, since adding more fat into my diet, I have now shrunk to a size 8/10 and not wanting to!!! I think previously my body must have previously been in starvation mode so kept me at that size. Now it's getting more fat, I think I need to eat even more of something to get out of the losing weight mode my body has now gone in to....I just never want to eat breads etc to put more carbs in to my body, so guess it may mean even more fat???

Thanks Donnelly & Dawn ... its reassuring that it can be a long term diet ...

I think much depends on how low a low carb diet is. I've reduced my carb consumption gradually since I started in February from 126g a day down to 70g now. I haven't gone down the very low carb route because I would be miserable and unable to sustain it. I am quite happy now with my 70g. and am able to eat some of my favourite foods without feeling deprived.

Thanks Blue, I am on 30g a day .. but eat to my meter any higher and my sugar rises

I range from 30-70g. Had suggested a while back that I ought to have breakfast such as toast or porridge... But much prefer the berries and yogurts.

I do dip out of low carb for December though. My carbs due to xmas pud, cake etc can go exceptionally high, but putting pump on 250% TBR conquers any extra carbs and of course the bolus are larger anyway.

So for 11months of year I am low carb for 30 years+.

Loving life

I have been LcHf for 4 months, low carb for 9 months. Will be LcHf for the test of my life.
Dr Bernstein has been LcHf for 40 years, he is now 80 with no complications. He keeps to 30g carbs per day (6-12-12).

Diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 58. Requested a GAD test in November, came back very high 2,000+, doc said I would be T1 within weeks, but presently still LADA taking no insulin or medication, and striving to keep my BS readings one hour after meals under 7.8 in order to keep as many insulin making pancreas beta cells as possible for as long as I can.

I have been lchf since Christmas. Not sure how low as I am a carb dodger rather than a carb counter. Seems to work though.

I will eat this way forever as I have no choice. Fortunately I really enjoy it and don't feel deprived.

If I could eat more carbs it would be apples as the two apple trees I planted years ago are just getting into the swing of it. Be a shame to waste free food.

Can you not manage an apple? I'm hoping one day that I can have one though having seen that nectarines are lower carb, I may just stick to them when I try some more fruit. The list if to try one day is getting longer and longer. By then I may have forgotten half of it which will be no bad thing.

.

I eat the odd half apple but find them too sweet now. I'll test for a whole garden apple in the autumn. Maybe I'll be lucky. My sister grows plums. I tested one day for a plum and was fine so that's good.

I ate an under-ripe gooseberry at the weekend. My face was like the little lad from the haribo tangtastic advert :wacky:

I'm eating carrot celery red onion spring onion fried in butter and olive oil with chopped up bacon and cheese melted on top and ... it tastes great!
Garlic ginger herbs chilli as well of course.

I've been trying to eat low carb for about 30 years, but it has been a slowly evolving journey, with plenty of failures, distractions and non strict periods on the way.

It probably more accurate to say that I eat to my meter, rather than low carbing - because I sometimes have 2 meals of green smoothie a day, which is probably 9-13 portions of fruit and veg. So that isn't really low carb, is it?... But it probably only puts my BG meter up by 1-2 at each of those meals. And I don't count my carbs. Although I pay close attention to the carbs listed on food labelling.

But I call myself a low carber, or LCHFer if it makes sense in the context, because it's becoming a much more understandable term.

And then, of course, there are the very low carb days.

I just muddle along, really. And I seem to have a visceral aversion to sticking to any set of rules

I have been eating LCHF now for two years (almost to the day), in that time I have lost dead on 50Kg but now eat at a level that maintains my weight. I still need to lose another 10Kg but was spooked to how I was going to recover or maintain the weight. As I was plateauing I decided to up the cals to a point I could.

Its been a few months stable so I am going to drop the calories again (after my hols). It is my intention though to stay on LCHF for as long as I can as it allows me to control my BS with no meds.

About since Xmas as very low carb +/- 30g a day since dx in November started to drop carbs.
lntend to do it for life lost lot weight trousers 22 to 14 bought the 14s yesterday...forgotton when last so thin more to loose no rush. Never felt fitter.
