Hi Alexander

I don't know where you live in the country but there are people out in this world that would love you around them.

Now let me give you an idea... Many, many oap homes nowadays give internet to their silver surfer residents. Trouble is, very few of the internet silver surfers have the confidence to use a computer in a communal setting......

So why don't you find some oap homes... Offer to give 3 lessons for an hour free of charge to staff and residents. Thats 3 hours in total....
Then charge anybody that needs your services again..........

You haven't lost anything, except a bit of spare time.... You will have experience to put on your cv as community work. The staff and residents would love you....

You just need a bit of confidence to approach the oap homes, but, again, this could be offered to people with learning disabilities etc.

You could put up a notice in newsagents, gp surgeries, postoffices.... Training specialist to oaps on computers... Etc.. Or advertise to fix viruses etc....

There are opportunities for everybody somewhere in this world.

You need to think outside of the box so to speak. Hey ho, kids your own age may well be difficult to communicate with.... But you have many admiring friends here.. Probably a tad older....but still we value you, your words and your struggles.

I think that you have patience.....and younger people don't seem to have that attribute.... So use it in a way to benefit you. My stepdad is in 80's and has ipad and is still struggling to forward an email from somebody else with photo's!! I wish I was closer to show him, but wish I had the patience too!!

You already are a "thinker outside the box" - thats obvious. You need confidence to bash down the walls of that box too!!!

Loving life

I live in Scotland and your idea sounds like a very good idea, however, I'm not very good at speaking. That's something I find even more difficult than dealing with Diabetes due to anxiety and being very quiet.

I was interested in helping out at my local cat and dog home, as I adore cats. The best friends I've ever met were always cats.

As for speaking to kids my own age, I do prefer the company of elders over the youth of today. As most music I listen is from the old days, something my Grandfather taught me, as I'd always put his old record player on for him when he was feeling down.

Perhaps in future, if I work on my self confidence, make friends here and see myself as someone who matters, I might take up that offer.

Certainly has Diana and I look forward to chatting to you more. The person you speak of, sounds as how I've been described before by family members almost exactly, just as a younger version of myself.

I'm glad to know it resonates with you, Alex. Thank you for replying. You sound brighter today and I hope that is due in part to knowing that we all care about you and believe you have a bright and promising future.

My friend is now in his 50's and has had a long struggle, but he has made it, and has discovered for himself, his value to society. He's also a bit of a techno-whizz :)

If you'd like to chat some more, please PM me. I don't have the App for this forum to my phone, so depend on logging on at various intervals.

I look forward to your PM!

Take care

That is good.
Maybe we need to give you chance to ask some questions.

By the way, I love Scotland. Spend as much time as I can there.

Night Pipp.

I've just said goodnight to Alex in a PM too. I know he's had a lot of offers from lots of lovely folk here, so I'm going to leave him in your capable hands while I catch some beauty sleep ;)

Sleep well everyone.

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Hi Alexander
You say that you "was interested in cats/dogs home" was there something that has held you back from volunteering there for perhaps just a couple hours a week? Would you not consider this as a small way to get something added to your cv?

Your qualities shine through Alex and older persons would love you. A lot of the older men are
in residential homes, not necessarily because they are senile etc, but to be honest, they were borne in an era whilst mothers/wife's did all the home domesticated jobs.the residential units I have worked in have certainly had more male silver surfers than females, and they are so wonderful and honestly, they so look forward to seeing people and doing activitys.

The support and love from friends here Alex is superb..

Alex, see lots of people are glad to see you back. And are glad you are back. Have you thought about hospital radio, you get to play music, which I am sure they will like as it's the same music. You could try that I did it and got a 2hr show on a Sunday night, you can talk if you want.

Ignorant people, diabetes!
Hi @Alexander13 I'm not a T1 so in all honesty I couldn't talk to you about that, but, if you ever want a chat please let me know, although I don't know much about Machiavelli :)

This really is a nice place to be and no one will judge you here, I'm sure it will help you to get everything off your chest, just remember you can say what you like and no one knows who you are.

I'd happily respond to a DM if you feel it would help :)

Hi Alex,

I'm sorry to hear about how you are feeling or were feeling. I too have a history of anxiety that was instigated by bullying at my school. It was 2003 and I was viciously assaulted on my head with a knuckle-duster merely for being present and minding my own business. I responded by saying to the teacher that I had a severe headache and I reached to the back of my head to find blood. The teacher told me to "be quiet" and when everybody had convened I wasn't taken to the medical room or hospital to have my head injury investigated. in the coming days, weeks and months I and other friends were attacked in all manner of ways consistently until 2004, when, I developed the symptoms of disturbed vision, extreme thirst, burning eyes, kidney pain, extreme dizziness, loss of 2 stone in weight and excessive urination which lead to me pulling permanently out of school as these were indeed the symptoms of juvenile type 1 diabetes.

Ever since those school days I have wondered, like you, whether I have any self-worth as being in the presence of other people seemed to primarily involve verbal or physical abuse being directed at me and, the then teacher, who theoretically has overall responsibility for the wellbeing of the class, could not care less; to be more precise, it felt like I had the phrase "attack me" written on my forehead. I suffered with severe anxiety when in the presence of any person from 2003 through to 2013, all the while taking anti-anxiety drugs and receiving weekly cognitive behavioural therapy since 2007. Despite the above negativity and hardship, for the first part of this year I became a RSPCA (I believe the Scottish equivalent is SSPCA) volunteer and a volunteer for the Arthritis Research UK charity. The simple act of volunteering as improved my self-confidence dramatically to the point that I can conceptualise that human beings can be trusted, can care and can help a person who is in need.

If I were you Alex, I would highly suggest that, when you feel less upset by your thought processes (which are probably being exacerbated by your blood sugar levels being either too low or high), that you try to get some practical experience of what it is like to be around people through volunteering. It just goes to show that 'thinking' about your self-worth, whether or not you will be accepted and whether or not you will gain confidence pales in comparison to physically ascertaining, through actions and interactions (such as volunteering) with other people how you feel with respect to your self-worth, acceptance and self-confidence. How can I say this? .. 6 years of CBT, which I like to refer to colloquially as "thinking therapy", did next to nothing, but 4 months of practical volunteering has transitioned me into a positive, ambitious and confident person with significantly less anxiety.

As others have said, please try to eat and take your insulin. These 2 things are the fuel/foundations that you will need to begin the practical steps to getting better.

Good morning.

I am just hanging around to see how you are doing @Alexander13 .
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am extremely nosey. I am resisting the urge to be bossy though, so just want to say that I hope you have a good day today.

Oh and well done to everyone who is proving what a caring community we have here, and showing that the wider world can be so too.

Hey Alex, I'm so pleased that you are feeling slightly better, everyone on here is so friendly and helpful.

As you adore cats have you thought of volunteering for the Cats Protection League or similar. I have a relative who like you, adores and loves cats. She volunteered for the CPL a few years back, she still does it and absolutely loves it and gets a lot out of knowing she's helped rehome stray, injured or lost cats. She also does/help with lots of fundraising for the charity. I have noticed that her confidence has grown over the years as she didn't have any before she started.

Hi Alex like you someone very close to me suffered years of bullying and being attacked a horrific young life which nobody seemed to be able to stop the outcome severe depression crouched in a dark room un communicating it the main cause was a form of autism leading to inability to understand social situations and basically a vulnerability which turned even the the nicest people into bullies it was a long struggle but with antidepressants voluntary work which I really believe we all need to be needed and to help people who appreciate us really help self esteem gives a purpose to daily life there's so much out there for you you've just got to find it I hope you get the strength to like the other posters have said things can get better for you

Hi Alexander
Don't lose heart. Easy for me to spout words but harder for you to take on board when feeling down. Two small items that might help. Firstly try to get involved in exercise. Running or fast walking is wonderful for the body and the mind.
Secondly a trivial matter that might tell you that you will overcome problems - forty years ago today on 9th August 1974 I got diabetes and Richard Nixon resigned. Two significant things in my life. I'm still here - lots of health issues in the last 40 but hanging in. Still running
Remember, life is about navigating uncertainty. You can do it.
