I just came across this post. Alex your first post nearly brought me to tears and I just feel like giving you a big big hug.

I am someone who as a t2 and 12 years down the line in am still struggling with having this condition. I hate it but I do realise that for all this time I used this hate as an excuse to not do anything about it.

I probably can give you some advice which I should really follow myself so I am not going to do that.

What I will tell you is that i wish I found this forum 12 years ago. I wish I had so many people supporting me and offer advice when I could actually do something about my diabetes. This is a great place so please stick around.

You are so young. Do what you can to have that brilliant future that I know you will have.

Big hugs :)

Wow...so many lovely lovely people I am truly moved.
alex as ive always considered myself as a bit of a misfit in life, I lost my mum at age 11 and also lost my way in life, followed by a bad marriage, and a multitude of other mishaps along lifes path, I did at a late age find happiness, now ive been thrown another curve ball...diabetes but yet again I will pick myself up and dust myself off. It wont be easy, none of it was.but I truly believe we ALL have an important role in life thats why were here.it just takes some of us longer to find it than others. This doesnt need to be a high powered and to my mind stressful career either it can be as simple as...in my case....holding your first grandchild for the first time.happiness comes in all shapes and sizes and is often quite unexpected. When it does come along we need to recognise it for what it is, grab itand nurture it.sorryIim waffling now but as you can see you have struck a chord with many of us with your plight.i wish you peace and please keep coming back and let all these lovely people help you.

I really hope that all the messages of support have really helped you @Alexander13
Things can often be difficult in life and Diabetes being thrown in to the mix can really cause issues.
When I was diagnosed we were coming the end of a period of years of heartbreak and just gone through an adoption process. My mis-guided view was that Diabetes may stop me being a parent but thankfully that has not been the case.
Take all these messages and use them as a force for good in your life. People on this forum are here to help and not just from a Diabetes point of view.

Dear Alex.
We all care, and care for each other.A lot of us have been overloaded with depression and anxiety and in dark places, but believe me you WILL get better from that, you are a young intellegent man,and you have to be strong at the moment and be kind to yourself,so sorry about your Gran, that will have upset you a lot, grief is hard to bare, but improves with time.
Take some time and look at this site, diabetes can be very much improved and its not difficult, mine improved in four weeks and its not much on my mind now. There is many young people out there with diabetes leading normal lives, dont let that worry you,you can get it under controll very quickly.
Your depression can be helped, doctors, friends, family also a mind set that YOU can do it.this phase will pass,
you have had a rough time, but things work out.
Anyone will help you on this site, you are not alone .

Celery.
I quoted Machiavelli as he is one of my favourites, but by doing so, alienated my audience as a result. That wasn't clever of me and a sure way of how to not make friends.

I don't think so. Do you think The Discourses are an actual attempt at a blueprint for society compared to The Prince which rather than being a political self help manual was actually a satire?

By the way you must listen to Morrissey and The Smiths - if you have not they will open your eyes, sometimes when the world seems a bit disastrous listening to someone expressing the same sentiments brilliantly seems to give a real boost.

Case in point;

Best

Hello Alex

I read your post yesterday and all the wonderful, caring and supportive replies to you and didn't feel I could add to what had already been offered to you. Then this morning I remembered perhaps I could.

Your eloquence touched me greatly and reminded me of someone I knew and loved a few years ago. Someone like you - an articulate, deep, intelligent man with an illness that he thought prevented him from working. We met after each of our marriages ended and I knew about his depression and wasn't bothered by it. I saw all his other wonderful qualities, kindness, generosity, tenderness, compassion, his acceptance of my children, one of whom is severely physically disabled who still lives at home with me.

Of the many things I loved about him, was his ability to communicate. In the written word, like you, and the spoken word. His gift awakened something in me which I didn't know I had and although we couldn't make our relationship work after three good years, he left a footprint on my heart, and no-one since has ever been able to meet the standards he set in a partner.

Did I say he was a postman? He left school with no qualifications as even as a 6'4" rugby player he was bullied to the point that he left school early without completing his exams.

Yet he had the wonderful ability to touch lives in a way that few people are able to. He found an outlet for his despair by writing. He writes songs and beautiful poetry. I occasionally read his blogs (though he doesn't know it ) and he has an enormous following on Twitter and his website. He writes passionately and with great understanding, humanity and empathy and with a wisdom beyond his years – just as you do.

He has found his place in society. It’s not a conventional one, but it is one where he is valued and respected. He has even become a spokesman and respected authority for some medical organisations, and campaigns for changes in legislation all from the safety and comfort of his home.

I don’t know how his health is. I sense he is still battling with it, but what has changed is his sense of self-worth.

I hope just from the replies here in the last 24 hours, you can see how valued you are. Whatever motivated your initial post took courage, thought, care and eloquence.

Channel those qualities and perhaps you could be a voice for others too.

I wish you well and I applaud your courage in posting yesterday. I await your next one, and look forward to hearing your progress

Hi, sorry to hear of your gran passing, i know it must be a really tough time ur going through. Im 27 and have diabetes 12yrs, in that time iv been in hosp quite a few times in icu with dka, my most recent being last year, iv never been so sick as i was then. I will admit, often iv intentionally caused myself to go dka as iv had some really dark times too,. i also have BPD(borderline personality disorder) which is ****** to manage with diabetes. when my mood goes low, my management of diabetes suffers and then i feel even more unwell, so am just going round in circles. i dont really know why iv written this or if it makes any sense at all but i just want you to know that you can come through dark times

Hello @ Alexander13

Well, you did say you would be my friend, and you are a bit quiet today. So hope you are doing ok.

I notice you have had a reply from @Giverny. Impressed that you have the offer of friendship from one so important on the forum.

I have had a busy day, and I am hoping for a lazy weekend.

I am not sure, as I haven't seen a post from you today, if that means you don't feel like bothering, or you are just a bit overwhelmed by the attention. Or maybe another reason. But I try to be loyal to my friends, so it is kind of hard if I don't know what you want.

Maybe I need to wait to hear from you, because I would get a bit fed up if lots of people were bothering me. Any chance you could clarify what I need to do next as a friend.

Of course I won't be offended if you have found some friends your own age, like @Giverny.

Either way, I hope you are having a good day.

Be well
Pipp

Hi Alexander

I don't know where you live in the country but there are people out in this world that would love you around them.

Now let me give you an idea... Many, many oap homes nowadays give internet to their silver surfer residents. Trouble is, very few of the internet silver surfers have the confidence to use a computer in a communal setting......

So why don't you find some oap homes... Offer to give 3 lessons for an hour free of charge to staff and residents. Thats 3 hours in total....
Then charge anybody that needs your services again..........

You haven't lost anything, except a bit of spare time.... You will have experience to put on your cv as community work. The staff and residents would love you....

You just need a bit of confidence to approach the oap homes, but, again, this could be offered to people with learning disabilities etc.

You could put up a notice in newsagents, gp surgeries, postoffices.... Training specialist to oaps on computers... Etc.. Or advertise to fix viruses etc....

There are opportunities for everybody somewhere in this world.

You need to think outside of the box so to speak. Hey ho, kids your own age may well be difficult to communicate with.... But you have many admiring friends here.. Probably a tad older....but still we value you, your words and your struggles.

I think that you have patience.....and younger people don't seem to have that attribute.... So use it in a way to benefit you. My stepdad is in 80's and has ipad and is still struggling to forward an email from somebody else with photo's!! I wish I was closer to show him, but wish I had the patience too!!

You already are a "thinker outside the box" - thats obvious. You need confidence to bash down the walls of that box too!!!

Loving life

Hello Alex.
I think the aged peoples home is a good idea, you sound like a person that cares.
I was a Home Manager for Methodist homes, head office in Derby, but homes all over the country, you will find them on the internet.
Its a lovely organization and I was very happy there for 15 years.
There are jobs for carers, gardners, admin, The teaching of computers is a very good idea, get on to it.they just may take you up on it.
Hope you feel better today, think positive.

Certainly has Diana and I look forward to chatting to you more. The person you speak of, sounds as how I've been described before by family members almost exactly, just as a younger version of myself.
