to be honest, i,ve no idea how to cook fish
before tea 7.2
after 8.9
I'm not sure poaching in milk is a good idea. Milk spikes me.
I fry fresh fish (cod or haddock) gently in butter. Dead simple and quick, with a crispy outer layer if it's done right. Supermarkets sell it in sealed packets.
@Bluetit1802 The amount of milk used is negligible - probably the same amount used in a milky cup of tea. The poaching liquid is a mix of milk and water. But I take your point. A negligible amount of milk doesn't spike me, but it may others.
OK probably fine if only a dash. I hate fish poached anyway. Mum used to poach fish in milk for my dad when I was a child. I could never eat it as the smell made me sick and I can still smell it now as I think about it, so I guess I'm anti-poaching anyway! That was in the days of old fashioned cookers and no extractor fans!
Oh dear. Not quite what we want to hear when we are trying to encourage @ally1 to give cooking fish a go!
HiOh dear, sorry about that Ally. Please don't let my little foibles put you off. Fish is dead easy to cook, even I can do it and that is really saying something. Please do give it a try and let us know how you get on.
Ok here it is. Steam or boil your cabbage but leave a little bite to it..I slice it up into ribbons. Then strain and add a knob of butter some double cream and a handfulof grated cheese. Toss it all together. Filling. Next to no carbs almost a meal in itself. Add black pepperi like the sound of creamy cheesy cabbage
i,m going to have fish and veg
Mmmmm this sounds lovely and simple too... I might try this over the weekendCheesy chicken and mushrooms.....get a piece of foil. Put a chicken breast on and a big spoon of philly cream cheese..the one with chives is nice. A few sliced mushrooms. And a sliced pepper. Green or yellow. Fold the foil up like a parcel. And bake for 20 mins in a med oven simple tasty and no washing up
