This is what diabetes uk tell T2 diabetics via their website...

I will just have to modify and moderate the next 2 meals to reduce that figure down to a normal 5.0 - 6.6 reading in the morning. Good job I know how, init.:D:D
you will be back to normal in 3 hours as long as you do not vegetate on the sofa all evening. Time to hoover the house

I just clicked on line recipes and the first one I saw was this :-

This delicious winter warmer dish is extremely easy to make for when you have little time to cook. It would be an excellent dish to perk you up if you are feeling unwell.

I can actually tell when I'm in a high B S bracket without testing, cos my face has a funny sort of tingling sensation to it. Hard to explain but I know. I can't tell exactly how high it is, I just know it's high.:(

Hi. I'm a supporting member of DUK and usually read the Balance mag. It has some interesting articles and some questionable ones. I've written to them many times about their diet advice and recipes. The recipes have become less carby (yes!) but they sent a silly reply about the dietary advice ("we are all different etc and need a balanced diet" - usual guff). Some of us listened to the discussion on Radio 2 a year or so ago between Dr Briffa and someone from DUK. He wiped the floor with her; she didn't know the difference between Ketosis and Ketoacidosis. Dr Briffa has written some excellent books on food metabolism and always with many references to support what he says i.e. evidence-based which the NHS and DUK could use more of.

Hang on, doesn't that sound like it's too low in carbs for that meal?
200g tomatoes maybe 6g? 200g Baked beans 26g, 300g Tinned New potatoes 45g, onion maybe 10g, sausages could be all meat I guess. Even so, surely that's more around 80g of carb between two?. Perhaps I've got my calculations wrong...

It does look an awful lot like bread. The 26g is per serving and that list of ingredients makes for 2 servings but I don't think they have got the total carbs right, it should be a lot more by my reckoning.

I'm on the other side of Pendle, which looms up at me from my window, dark, forbidding and mysterious. It's covered with snow at the moment and looks less gloomy than normal.

Kat. there's already potatoes in the dish. and If bluetit is correct, with the bread, it does look like that's another 10+ carbs on top. How many type 2's could cope with that ( If I'm incorrect please say so) on diet alone or with some meds. Sausage casserole is a heart warming and tasty dish, but I would swap the beans and potatoes, for veg like broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and/or green beans ?
Gosh it's making me hungry now :hungry:

I can manage 2 small new spuds, or 1 slice of bread with loads of fat in the meal, never both together, and as for baked beans - double figures even with the low sugar ones.

This is what I mean, everyone can cope or not cope with certain foods, but it does seem to be a lot of carbs for type 2's bodies to cope with in one hit ? !!
