Thanks for all the advice I really do appreciate it, still trying to get my diabetes back on track so far it has been a bit of improvement.

Well done, take it one step at a time. The best thing to do is keep a diary of results. I was getting erratic numbers recently, things have really tightened up again since I have been noting things down again. It's really hard to write down a bad result, but it is so, so helpful to be able to see a pattern emerging. That way, you know where things are going right, and where improvements can be made.

I think we all go through **** and frustration, sometimes I just want to shout ******** to the lot of it,. The operative word is "through" we're then (mentally) out of the other side, for a while at least. ;) Sometimes I see someone coping with a disability and thank my lucky stars.

I've been T1 for 35yrs, the care is better now. It's not easier, in some ways a lot more complicated but healthier.

You could think to yourself i'me only 23 years old and with the medical progress they are making today they will probably find a cure in my lifetime so I don't want to cause to much damage to my body in the meantime. And look forward to the party you will have when it happens.

Hi Ive beentype 1 for 46 yrs, I was 3 when developed shock of car accident! I am a brittle diabetic and I don't eat much or no badf stuff, but my bloods are up and down so drastically. my body is full of Fibromalgia, Osteoperosis, Neuropathy and what with type 1 aswell. then I got bladder not working and serious bowl probswaiting for yrs for them to diagnose Chrones as got all the symptons. I also got Charcot disorder as have about 15 unhealed broken bones inmy feet. I am in electric wheelchair , but I try to walk around house, as I have a very busy animal household to look after. I live for my animals, but I am totally disgusted as I was blind at 20yrs, and after surgery in moorfields London. got my sight back, but at night I cant see in dark. I had insulin pump 3 yrs ago, as been on 4 injections all my life, but because I couldn't see the tubing for the airbubbles it threw my blood sugars out again! sine then I asked for the pump with no wires and was told to wait til available in Bournemouth where I live not far. well I got hold of Omnipod simplicity free sample from the company just to see exactly the size and wear to see how it felt. ITS THE BEST THING EVER. and I never knew it was on. I am only tiny and thought it may be clumsy, but no. the company informed me that yes it was available here in Bournemout hospital, and I had to apply for funding. well been going to and fro to hospital, by ambulance as my partner works away in London and cant get time off easy. but each time a different specialist. about a month or so I was sent away to write a chart of my sugars insulin food intake and to come back 3 wks later. well I did this, and anouter doctor again! turned around and tried to tell me to do things that have been tried over many yrs, that all has been tried without success. then told me "Oh no! we don't have this dealt with here". After all my hard work and serious episodes of close to death through Major hypos at 1 and opposites at over 33 the woman fobbed me off! I came home and it took it out of me for a few days where I was so poorly, thinking this was the day the put forward my funding?? which previous doctor said. But No! I am really on the verge of a breakdown now as my life of trying everything to be well isn't happening. I get no help at home as my sons are out at college and uni, and my partner is away 12 out of 14 days from 4 in morning to 8 at night. there is no social services to help or any nurse to come help with my diabetes. nor to help with my feet problems. surely they should see that im a priority as my health is so much at risk. sorry its quite a long winded letter, but im crying out for help here, and I cant fund ths myself as tooexpensive, else I would.

When I was diagnosed 40 years ago it seemed it was all doom and gloom from here on I was going to have all these medical problems and not have the fun everybody else would have. Here I am at nearly 56 and not had 1 problem other than the odd hypo, I didn't always look after myself in the early years { but wish i had} and would quite often eat way over my 200 carb allowance. The control is more complicated now but you have far better methods of doing so, so please look after yourself until that cure day comes as i'me sure it will.

thankyou, but I can assure you there will never be a cure in our time! there may be something to easier control ike this pump I so much need, but that's it. I live for my family and haved tried every step to stay here, as I love my zoo, its my life. but when you plead for help, and medical care here are useless! but the nurse I see at hospital have no say in the pump, its not good. would like to win a million to help me live a better life ive never had

Have you tried contacting INPUT? @solitaire65
They give good advice and you might like to read this.

http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/alt-insulin-pumps/is-it-provided-by-the-nhs/

If you meet the NICE criteria but your consultant does not think you are suitable for pump therapy:

1. Ask lots of questions – why do they think you are unsuitable? What changes do they think will improve your diabetes control without a pump? Is there another consultant in the clinic who is more familiar with pump therapy?
2. Consider their decision – is the consultant’s assessment fair and sensible? Do suggestions for improved control seem realistic and practical? Do you have unrealistic expectations?
3. Ask your GP to refer you to a pump-specialist clinic – you have the right to ask your GP to refer you to any NHS hospital for a second opinion. If they won’t, contact INPUT or your MP for further help and advice

If you fit the criteria for a pump and your DSN is not helpful then ask for a transfer to another hospital that is pump friendly.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a cure within the next 50 years, it seems as though more and more emphasis is being pushed toward finding a cure for type 1.

As for being SICK of diabetes, just take it one day at a time. I found once I decided to take care of myself and tested more regularly (6+ times a day) it just became a part of my life. I don't even think about my diabetes now it just happens, the only reminders I get are when someone new witnesses my injections or I get one of those **** hypos.

I understand completely how you feel, just take one day at a time and just test test test. You can take control and will feel a lot better if you do so keep positive and take care of yourself ;)

Know it alls, Doctors who don't have a clue about maintaining diabetes, Right wing politicians
I've been type 1 for 12 years now and I'm 23 years. I'm just soo sick of it now that I've literally stop caring about it. I really need to get back on track and could really use some support. It's really unfair that I have to be stuck with this condition for the rest of my life.

Carpe Diem!!!! Having had the problem for the last 60 years, having owned 9 homes in two countries, several really interesting jobs, having 5 grandchildren and immigrated to a new country(Canada) in my twenties, life has been full. Travel, field trips, business successes have not been greatly affected by the problem. I was determined at the age of nine to prove myself equal if not better than my non diabetic school friends later colleagues and new countrymen. You can have a full life yeah maybe a bit a millstone at times but you can overcome. Again I say Carpe Diem!!

There really needs to be a cure, sticking a needle in yourself 4 times a day, and stabbing yourself with a lancet to draw blood multiple times a day is not the answer, it just buys you time so you survive another day. We really are living on borrowed time, if it was upto nature we wouldnt be here.

Borrowed time? Definitely Not.. @dan12321 it really sounds as if you are really struggling...

Diabetes is not the end of the world....sure its not as simple as your friends.... Look at the above post from @jed who has really lived....

I really suggest you look around and talkto either health people about your difficultys and glumness..your abilitys are the one that makes you or breaks you.

Of course there does but I agree with donnelly. There's enough to deal with living with the condition and (like it or not) we must press on.

That said, governments should throw a LOT more at this because the spread of diabetes is (almost) out of control.

Aaah but the govt throwing money at diabetes... That isn't actually going to stop it spreading.

T1 isn't a spreadable disease-its something wrong with our genetic make up going back 100's of years.

T2's -well there's been ongoing debates whether this is linked to obesity or not. So actually there us no confirmed realisation or facts actually as to the causation of T2 spreading. For all we actually know it could be the qty of carbs, chlorine in water, having semi skimmed processed milk. There is no determination with T2's as to why some thin people still get it or why some obese people don't.

So the government can't actually pump money into it like they can with vaccinations for say young girls for cervical cancer injections or measles injections etc.

Do not disagree at all DD..... but is there any other condition which has "spread" like this? It needs a lot more money thrown at it and NOT at the expense of other research.

Mike :)
