    Should a t1d follow a low carb diet ?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Over indulgence is your Kriptonite so either more exercise or less over indulgence. Longer term balance is essential for Longer term health, but you already know that my friend. Keep on the move and eat healthy car less complicated than diets. Ps keep away...

    Should a t1d follow a low carb diet ?

Balance your Insulin to your food, if you feel guilty don't eat it and balance accordingly. I'm forced to eat GF diet due to Ceoliac and careful takes on a whole new meaning but at least I avoid wheat cereals etc. If you get the opportunity take the Dafne course via your specialist only it'll...

    Fish and Chips

I find fish and chips have a two stage on sugar levels as batter is slower than chips at absorbing into the body. Your right to increase and even if you take too much Insulin it's simply to fix, as managing low sugars is simpler to manage than highs.

How did type 1 diabetics used to manage sugars whilst sleeping, before the glucose monitors came out? Advice needed

Libre 2 will enable you to sleep comfortably in the knowledge it will wake you if you Bs drops or rises to your personal settings. Lucazade orange is my preference is very fast acting, but I only require a small mouthful to bring my sugar up, and then slow acting carbs to follow as and if...

    Car hypo treatment

Lucazade orange my preference, is fast and doesn't carry over ideal as you can then take on board slow acting carbs if required.

    Type 2 Lazy bowels

How did you get on? Fresh Ginger added to an odd meal may help increase body temperature, improves circulation and in turn bowl movement if you get my drift. Rhubarb with Honey (natural antioxidant) is also great to keep you regular but don't forget to increase insulin to compensate. What a...

    Insulin pen too hot?

Heat does effect insulin, if in doubt change the pen it's essential. Never leave insulin in a hot car or in the Sun as does freezing it both destroy the insulin. Kind regards Martin

    Newly diagnosed

Hi Karen I was 12 when diagnosed T1 and no thanks to the GP, I survived dam near lost. The great news is that for 47 years t1 I've seen most things good and bad. Hormones do effect bloods but all is easily controlled. You should take things slowly and request a Libre 2 sensor from your...

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Discuss your sugars with ideally a specialist Dafne nurse only their course is geared to T1 but has a great deal to offer in carbs learning. If not available do specific carb tests where you can record what effects each of your favourite carbs do to your sugars. You will of course need to...

    Hospital/Gp

Speak to the GP practice manager, explain your situation and look to obtain a solution moving forward. It could be as simple as the Hospital requesting a blood sample via your GP surgery as this is becoming more popular to ease the pressure at Hospital. Check with Practice manager.

    Re monitoring

Firstly which monitor did you purchase. This area is complex, but records are essential for you to learn cause and effect of foods and volumes of each you eat. Learn about food, carbs, sugars slow and fast acting carbs will enable you to see how they effect you. Learn....you are your best...

    Issues with Nurse Practitioner

Whilst it could be several reasons for the tiredness one thing that should be checked via blood test is Vitamin D. Without it your in trouble as it also affects your immune system big style. Simple test to rule it out. Low carbs does also have an issue i.e. low energy, no mojo. You sound like...

    Always low

Hi Angela Personally T1 47 years with Ceoliac and from long term experience I've found the following. Proud to say on Libre 2 at 39mmol currently. Orange full sugar Lucazade in small amounts brings the sugar up faster than anything else bar none. The added benefit it has little to no carry...
