I've been type 2 diabetic for 14 years and on metformin the whole time. Control has been up and down over those years and was mainly controlled by low carbing. Followed Dr Mosley 8 week sugar diet a number of years ago but my carb intake has slowly sub consciously creeped up. Although any time I...
I'm another Scottish member who thinks the mydiabetesmyway is great! I had hba1c blood test at 9.40am yesterday and got my results at 8am this morning. No need for numerous phone calls to surgery or lengthy wait in a call queue. Although the result wasn't as good as I'd hoped for ( Christmas got...
Thank you for sharing your experience in detail. It was interesting to read and proves that it is possible to reduce even very high levels and maintain it without meds. Congratulations and well done!
I can associate with this so much! I had hba1c of 111 in October. DN wanted to increase meds immediately but I persuaded her to give me the chance to lower it myself. Deal is if hba1c isn't in 50s at start of January then I've to increase meds. I've been doing so well and the fear has kept me...
Thanks. That makes sense. Although it's always higher in the morning (dawn phenomenon) and it doesn't seem to come down until after I eat. I'm generally 7ish during the day 2 hrs after meals but can be 9 in the mornings.
That's a fair point. I was just thinking that all I want to do now is ensure my levels don't creep up e.g. if I test 2 or 3 days in a row and it's high each day then I would need to reconsider things. I've been told by the nurse today that if hba1c is not in 50s when tested again at the start of...
I'm sticking to much the same foods now on a daily basis and wanting to cut down the number of times I test each day. If you only test once per day then when is the best time to do it. I just want to ensure my levels are remaining stable.
Well done! That's a brilliant result and proves it can be done. I'm working on getting mine down from 111 last month so your achievement gives me hope and spurs me on. Thank you
Yes that's exactly what I mean! I enjoy going out for coffees and lunches. I know I have to change the way I eat but I still want to enjoy life and eating out is a big part of my enjoyment. I didn't realise just how much pleasure I get from food and eating out. The thought of never being able to...
Thank you for all the replies and advice. It seems that the majority of us prefer not to eat when out. I was hoping for ideas of what's a reasonable choice from these typical menus......you could say the best of a bad bunch. I agree with the poster who won't buy a salad when out as it's from a...
Hi, I'm looking for some advice/opinions re eating out.
I've been in denial regards my diabetes for a number of years now but after recent hba1c result of 111 I've realised that it's time to take it seriously. I'm low carbing and BG levels are around 7 to 8 most days. In the past I get it down...
Well done. Great achievement. I'm hoping for similar results. My hba1c was 111 a month ago. (Was 49 in 2019 but then covid happened) Diabetic nurse is trying to convince me to increase my meds but I'm determined to get it down by low carbing. I've done it before and really hope I can do it...
I was diagnosed type 2 in 2011 and joined this forum way back then. Got things under control and carried on with life. In 2019 my hba1c was 49. It increased to 77 at end of 2020 after all the comfort eating during covid and lockdown. My bloods haven't been tested now for almost 2 years so I...
