Private Operation Cost For Tractional Retinal Detachment?

Hi guys, So I attended clinic this morning and was told my retina has detached a lot more. The surgeon couldn’t see me as he was in theatre and I’ve been told to come back on Thursday afternoon to discuss and talk about operation. Obviously right now I am panicking and absolutely terrified as I...

    Tractional Retinal Detachment

Thanks for the links. So tractional retina detachment is just like any normal detachment that occurs? The way my doc was speaking he was repeatedly saying about the high risks of failure and losing my sight altogether if anything went wrong. :/

    Tractional Retinal Detachment

So I’ve been told in my most recent appointment that my retina is starting to detach in two places and it’s because of the amount of retinal traction in my eye at the minute. Has anyone here had the Vitrectomy for tractional retina detachment and come out the other side? I’ve read it’s a lot...

    Freestyle Libre

I’m on a two week trial for the libre. Currently have had no issues with it. It took a couple of days to adjust to what my other glucose system was reading and I find it’s 15 minutes behind whatever I’ve done to raise or lower my sugars but is tremendous. I thought I’d feel it and snag it on...

    What diabetes team?

I’ll have to see next time about that. I feel bad though if they see that I’ve basically said no I don’t want them being my doctor anymore but I guess if it needs doing. I’ll see how she is next time. Maybe she just had a bad day or patient before me or something.

    What diabetes team?

I’ve had lots of different nurses and docs but appointments have been twice annually for a HBA1C check and another appointment for checking blood pressure, feet, waist etc.

    What diabetes team?

I literally have no idea who my diabetes team actually are. I’ve had type 1 diabetes for 21 years and in that time was a little foolish and have paid the price by being diagnosed with proliferative retinopathy back in October last year. Since then, I have attended one diabetes appointment with a...

If my ophthalmologist recommends a Vitrectomy next time..

Do I jump at the chance of having one done? Or try to convince him about having one more laser session to seal the bleeds then anti-VEGF injections to stop further growth? It’s mainly my right eye which has lots of little bleeds, dark spots, string/worms in peripheral after 6 laser sessions and...

Macular Degeneration breakthrough involving stem cells

Wonder whether the stem cell therapy could work on decreasing the amount of scar tissue on the retina in the future. That’d be awesome!

Macular Degeneration breakthrough involving stem cells

Saw this on the news today about a blind man regaining his sight and sparked hope in me. Macular degeneration affects the back of the eye similarly like the effects of retinopathy, doesn’t it? New stem cell research is proving very positive for all us going through this right now! :)

Still absolutely petrified after several laser sessions. Help.

But is it unusual for me to have had so much laser already? From posts I’ve read most people have only had under 5 sessions and it’s been finely treated and effective at stopping the retinopathy progression. Do I need to fight this for another year before stabilisation has a chance to work? I...

Still absolutely petrified after several laser sessions. Help.

I’ve no savings at all. I’m going to have to crowdfund or get a loan somehow for all this. :s

Still absolutely petrified after several laser sessions. Help.

Thanks Nods, I’ve emailed the London clinic all my details, condition and mental state and just waiting to hear back about a self-pay price. Hoping it’s not going to be too expensive and yes might do like you said and just pay out for an initial consultation to get his opinion and what route to...

Still absolutely petrified after several laser sessions. Help.

Do you think I can demand my hospital ophthalmologist to refer onto Moorfields clinic. I think they’d just laugh at me and try to reassure me but the state of my eye after so much just makes me want to burst into tears. I literally feel like they have no idea what it’s like. All they see is...

Still absolutely petrified after several laser sessions. Help.

Ah.. nuts. It really sucks that they treated my lazy left eye with laser and the Lucentis injections for the macular edema and it has no problems now but they’ve bashed up my dependant right eye with countless laser sessions and causing multiple bleeds.
