    what a shock!

Those people who know me may have noticed I've not been around for a while. A couple of months ago I went for routine bloods and by the end of the day was admitted to hospital with Myeloma, which is a bone marrow cancer. Looking back, I can now see that I'd been getting increasingly unwell, but...

    Britain's fattest man

I watched the TV programme about this poor man. I wept with him. He was being cared for by a devoted carer who obviously thought that she was doing right by him by preparing low fat meals; still of gargantuan proportions. Obviously no-one involved in his care knew that low Carb is the most...

Type 1 having trouble losing weight

I'm married to a lifelong T1 and know from being with him that losing weight whilst using insulin is HARD. Do you have a regime where you can alter your doses? If so you might try reducing your carbs and reducing insulin to match. It worked a bit for my husband. His insulin went down to about...

Low carb didn't work for me.

No diet works unless you stick to it. For me LC has been the way, because it's uncomplicated and I want to minimise medication. If it's not to your lifestyle, that's totally your choice, however, what is the difference in difficulty between counting calories and counting carbs?

    Insulin and Weight Gain

insulin is the weight gain hormone, so you have to use it with care and minimise your use, by minimising your carbs. I'm married to a T1, who is at least 5 stones heavier than he was 40 years ago when diagnosed. Now he's cut his carbs, things are improving slowly. Hana

    Refused eye test at opticians

Years ago, I had a Boots appointment, during which the optometrist spotted my bacground retinopahy, which I'd told her I had. They then referred me to the hospital, which messed up the appointment I already had there. My suggestion is try another optometrist. Tesco and Specsavers have both been...

Which drug is most effective with Metformin?

I use Metformin and Low carb, but severaal years ago, I also used Starlix [which doesn't seem very well known] I dropped it when the low carb really kicked in. I'd recommend Starlix as you only need to take it when you're eating a fairr bit of carb. Hana

Anyone following Dr Bernstein diabetic solution

I've been following Bernstein essentials for 12 years. I'm not doing it to the letter, but with a biology degree, I understand the principles. So I do eat carrots, tomatoes and peppers! I tried the Da vinci syrups some ears ago and found them just horrible. If I use a sweetener, I use Erythritol...
