Non fasting probably means an Hba1c test

So why did I fast for the first blood test then?

I thought it was the fasting test that determined I was diabetic in the first place. I thought the fasting test gave me the Hba1c result which deemed me diabetic?

Why fast in the first place then... Was that for cholesterol then?

Fasting tests are used in the first instance, then they do glocose tolerence tests which are also fasting but take two hours to do (sounds like some pcts have stopped the gtt tests though) then they do HBa1c which are not fasting. hBa1c tells them what your average blood glucose levels are over the last 10-12 weeks, tends to be more meaningful.

You probably didn't do anything wrong but, it takes time for levels to fall. People think that, if they don't eat carbs, their readings should be much lower the next day. In fact it can take several weeks and there will always be ups and downs. Your body is used to patterns and it will keep breaking down your fat stores and putting glucose into your blood if yuo are not getting enough from your food. It adjusts though and slowly goes down. It took me 4 months to get down from 9s and 10s to 5s and 6s and another 4 months to get to 4s and 5s. Even now, I'll get the odd high 6 or 7. Don't get flustered by occasional readings, it's patterns over time that you look for.

Today before breakfast it was 13.6 now I know that is very high but a few weeks ago it was about 22. So I must be doing some things right. But annoyed that +2 hrs fell only to 11 as had only bacon and eggs. Still seeing more single fights during the day

Frosty66 like Yorksman says you will always get the odd higher than normsl reading. It's patterns you need to look at overall if it's coming down all is good. It is a marathon not a sprint though.
