Hi folks, I just got confirmation of my diagnosis this week though it didn't come as much of a surprise considering my reclusive lifestyle, with lousy diet, courtesy of Iain Duncan-Smith, and zero exercise. Although I am not surprised by the diagnosis I am in some sort of shock, not really knowing what to expect, nor how to really change my life (that's a tough one on £71 pw all inclusive.

I am female, 58, single, have a cat, listening to Woodie Guthrie when I listen to music at all. I am angry and depressed.

Hello everyone my name is Jan and I have been diabetic type 2 about 9 years. I kept my HBA1C at 6.3 until I was made redundant at age 61.5, shortly after my husband died and I took retirement rather than try and get a job that could go to someone younger in the present economic climate.

Unfortunately being at home did not help my control - I ate more - and my bgs crept up. Also I found the changeover to a different way of reporting the results in 2011 somewhat confusing. My doctor's receptionist told me I was 6.4 but this was actually 64 and I was quite upset by this. I asked the Doctor to have a word" My doc put me on Januvia in addition to x4 Metformin and this is helping and it has come down again now, to 49. Better, but no gold star.

Like many practices they will not prescribe test strips to type 2's. I have been working on bringing my HBA1C down since Christmas by eating carefully, but will not be tested until April. However, I know I have lost weight, about 9 lb, which I hope will help.

Unfortunately (having had frozen shoulder for about 18 months) I have just been discharged from physiotherapy for a frozen shoulder pending surgery for it -the physio I saw at the last appointment was the senior chap and I described muscular aches and pains which I had attributed to statins and he is of the opinion I have got a type of inflammatory rheumatism called PMR which can strike suddenly. I used the word "unfortunately" because although it is treatable, the treatment is a steroid, which could probably affect my bgs. I will deal with it when I know more. I have been taken off the statins by the doc..

I am also hypothyroid, which doesn't help, diabetes and hypothyroid runs through my family on my late father's side. He had diabetes, my aunt had both, my sister just has hypothyroid, so do her daughters and grand daughters, one of whom has diabetes also, uncles, cousins about 9 people.
