Why no sugar free cough med ?

Most, if not all the major brands are sugar free, they use sorbitol, malitol and others so they are OK for diabetics. Ask the chemist, they know what to offer, I like Night Nurse, stops the cough and puts you out like a light! H

    SUGARFREE CEREAL

Before you buy any you might want to read this:- http://fatsecret.co.uk/Diary.aspx?pa=mealv&mid=3492 Or this http://tinyurl.com/6rxbtha You might also consider that the cereals used are genetically modified to withstand doses of Monsanto herbicides. Oh, and some of them are very high in carbs. H

Newly Diagnosed, not yet started on whatever is necessary

Re: Newly Diagnosed, not yet started on whatever is necessar What will happen when you see the doctor? I have looked into my crystal ball and I can see that you will have a good outcome. Your partner will have some good news and your future looks very good. Soon your BGs will fall and you...

Just diagonised and returning to the UK

I assume you are a UK citizen returning to the UK to live? If so all treatment should be free including prescribed diabetic medications but maybe not test strips etc., that's a post code lottery it seems, I can't get any strips on prescription. If you are a non UK citizen then different rules...

    Red wine and exercise

As Daisy says, any alcohol will lower your Bgs as the liver is kept busy dealing with the alcohol. When you get Bgs under control as you have done you may find as many of us do that the occasional "treat" does not cause a big rise in BGs. My theory on this is that your pancreas has had a bit of...

Re: Off to GP tomorrow, all the signs and BG fasting tested We look forward to your update, I am keen to know if my guess or Diabell's is right :D Looking at the info. again I think Diabell may be right. Whatever it is it needs sorting, good luck, keep us informed. H

Off to GP tomorrow, all the signs and BG fasting tested 15.8

Re: Off to GP tomorrow, all the signs and BG fasting tested As you already suspect, your results put you firmly in the diabetic range. What sort is up to the doc to diagnose, but I would guess at type 2. In the short term you need to get those numbers down, diet and excercise will help but I...

    Zinc supplements for diabetics

When I first read your post Lucie I was a bit sceptical, but I have done a bit of online "research" and it seems that zinc is important and may well be deficient in T2 diabetes. It also plays a part in many other conditions to numerous to mention here, so yes it is an important mineral. The...

    Diabetes medicine

If you have diabetes and you are pregnant then you must do as the doctor says. If you do not control the diabetes then your baby could suffer. The doctor will know what medications are safe for pregnancy, you can take them without worrying. You will have to wait for the test results and...

Glucose Intolerance test clear but still suffering

A Glucose Tolerance Test is a pretty good test of how your body deals with sugars, if that was normal and blood tests (I am guessing HbA1c and maybe some others) normal then you don't have diabetes. There are other conditions that can cause BGs to fluctuate and many prescribed drugs will do it...

Metformin prescribed.....1 week til Christmas :(

Chest infections can be, surpisingly, also caused by yeast, and yeast loves sugar and moisture, just like inside your lungs! Thrush is, of course a yeast infection. Now I am not sure about piles though, they are varicous veins up your bum, surgery is a good if painful cure, and I emphasise...

    hearing probs

I wear two hearing aids, before I had them fitted a lady of my aquaintance asked me " Would you like sex?". Somewhat taken aback by her forthrightness I said "Pardon" luckily I heard her correctly this time, she actually said "Would you like a text?" in reference to a phone number. Shortly...

    Salt

Squeeze a lemon and add as much olive oil to the juice. Add the yolk of an egg and whisk like mad, I know it's not salty but it tastes salty (sort of). H

    Diet and exercise control

It is possible to get down to single figures or even 7 and 8s in as little as a month. This all depends on individuals and how much insulin resistance and how much the pancreas is still working, so yes it is a piece of string question. I note you are not on any medication, it might be best to...

    Pleased am getting there

well done that man! Bgs will continue to reduce but at a slower rate, but eventually you will get to where you want to be. One or two squares of 80% dark chocolate (Lidl) eaten after a meal have little effect on my BGs, some other chocolate has to much sugar to even consider. H

    Pizza Last night

Glad you enjoyed it. Weight loss and carb control can rest your pancreas to some extent, also your insulin resistance can improve as a reult. So when you eat something like a Pizza you find that your body can now cope. However, if you do it all the time your body might just decide it cannot...

    Metformin to Insulin......and back again?

Hospitals do use insulin very readily for in patients. They are fed a standard hospital diet and injected with insulin to control BGs. My relative was recently made unconcious overnight, the hospital explanation was not clear as to why, I have no evidence so I cannot prove anything, but I sure...

What to drink at the pub

Pure alcohol has a BG lowering effect. The problem is that many drinks containing alcohol also contain a lot of sugar and carbs. Beer is bad in that respect, as is sweet white wine, liqueurs, sweet sherry, port and so on. Dry white or red wine is OK as are most spirits, dry cider is good...

Are Artificial Sweetners OK For Diabetics

To much caffeine can raise blood sugars, but 4/5 cups a day shouldn't do it. What I have noticed is that sugar free carbonated cola drinks do make my BGs rise a bit, I don't know why, maybe it is something to do with the caffeine or the CO2 gas? I don't know, anyway I don't drink them now. H

    antibiotics on an empty stomach

Sounds like you are on one of the penicillin type antibiotics, mosty of them end in" llin" or "mycin" or similar. Some foods interfere with absorption so they are best taken on an empty stomach, also when taken on an empty stomach you get a bigger "hit" from the antibiotic. I don't think a cup...
