Don't put it all down to diabetes

Two nights ago I thought I was having a low blood sugar episode and treated it as such. Blurred vision lack of coordination all the symptoms I've previously experienced and I was actually having a mini stroke. My wife was working late so never saw what i was like. I had a couple of pieces of...

    WhooHoo 2

Latest HBA1c come back at 5.8 and have now been taken off gliclazide :D . Unfortunately he says no more test strips. I will have to persuade my GP that the improvements are as a result of regular testing at home.

    WoooHooo

Just got to share my latest hba1c test result of 5.9  On a 'normal' diet with very rare McD or kebab. I have really cut down on chips and sweet stuff, although I could see off a pound of liquorice allsorts or half a dozen mars bars if they were put in front of me, they always were my...

    Non diabetic levels

What exactly are non diabetic levels? I did a search on this site and it found every reference to non, levels, and diabetic but not all in the same post. :?

    One for the men

To those using viagra. Can you still 'pee' when under the full effect of the little blue pill? And after reading the side effects I don't think I'll bother. Did anyone have any of the side effects?

    Kebab

How carb heavy is a kebab? I had a mixed kebab with salad last night and 5 hours later, feeling really **** I tested for a hypo and was shocked to see a reading of 8.6. This was after my usual after dinner walk with the dog. I was surprised to see such a high reading - the highest I've seen for...

HBA1c 6.1, same as last one even after my Gliclazide dose was halved 160mg from 320mg, I'm moving in the right direction :D :D :D

Only 3 hours after sausage, mash and beans I had a hypo feeling so I tested and reading of 3.4. I have to go and pick up wife in an hour and the only thing I could find is shreaded wheat. I remember that they were high carbish. I will test again before I drive. She might be getting the bus home...

    What's going on here?

dinner was casserole with a generous helping of potato and yet after 3 hours my BG is 3.2. Feeling **** and well into hypo territory. If anything I expected to be a bit high. :? :? :?

    What are the dangers

of going too low too often? By low I mean between 3 and 4, not the serious hypos experienced by our T1 friends. I know the risks of being high and we aim to keep our BS down but is there a danger?

6.1 up from 6.0 at my last test. I'm persevering with my nightly glass of red wine. And I'll put the slight rise down to the very stressfull time I've had since xmas.

How long does it take to feel better

after a hypo? Yesterday I went too low while I was out shopping, don't know how low but it must be the lowest I've ever been and I didn't have a test meter with me. My wife took me into Mc D's for what just about counts as food. 1 hour later and still feeling **** I visited a phamracy where...

    Where does insulin come from?

Not your own body produced. I mean the stuff given to inject yourself. I've been told it's from pigs. Is that true?

    Common Colds

For the past few days I've been fighting off a cold. I've not been taking any of the medications for it as I don't believe any of them actually work. I'm sure I've read on here that colds can raise the BG level but this week I've been going into the lower numbers too often. By lower numbers I...

    Diabetic dog?

How do I know if my dog is diabetic? Would she have similar symptoms to mine? She is an over weight 8 years old boxer. The weight is mainly due to kindly neighbours feeding her through the fence. An 'ulcer' has developed on a back leg which just doesn't heal. It does not cause any trouble to her...

I have to share my news

Most recent Hba1c 6.0 down from 8.2. I'm really pleased. I just had to share it :D :D :D The only change I've made is to introduce a glass of red wine before bed.

    Well here I am

Survived my first holiday in a warm climate since diagnosis. Apart from one low - my own fault. A half bottle of rose wine for breakfast is not recomended. I learnt several things though, the main one being an 18 year old daughter is not old enough or responsible enough to be left alone at...

How can I tell the difference

I feel rubbish when my bg is high and the same when it is low. How can I tell the difference? I don't always have a suitable clean environment to do a test. The symptoms of both are feeling shakey, and nauseous. Apart from that I'm off on Saturday to Portugal my first holiday to somewhere warm...

I suppose we all have days like this

Feeling miserable and down, generally feeling ****. I wasn't ill until I was diagnosed. It was 20 years since seeing a doctor, I never had nerve damage, numbness or pins and needles in my legs. It's all only come on since I was diagosed as diabetic and that was as a result of an accident :cry...
