    Variations in basal rates

So I am still basal testing. Currently I am at 1.4u during the night going down to 1.3u between 4 and 6 as otherwise I wake up hypo. I have done a lot of overnight basals and I am fairly happy with these rates they seem to keep me fairly steady between 4,5 and 6ish. Then at 6am I change the...

How many different basal rates in a day?

I'm just interested to know how many different basal rates people have in a day. I'm already up to 5 and after 4 weeks I'm still really trying to sort out the 3am to noon rates for me. Pumping insulin says that you shouldn't really need more than 6 in a day, but I have done basal testing with a...

    Pump start tomorrow

So after waiting for the day since I got my letter at the beginning of April, it is finally here. Tomorrow I will spend the whole day at the hospital and should be pumping by lunchtime. Not sure whether to be excited or anxious, probably a bit of both!

Time off work for pump start

I'm just interested in how much time people generally take off work when they are starting on a pump. My hospital letter says a minimum of one week, but wondering if this is enough for most folk, and thinking of taking two weeks.

    Insurance value of 640g

I think things are done a little different where I live (Scotland). So I got my initial pump meeting in April, even though I will not be starting on the pump until 18th August (which seems a long time away!) Then this week I got delivered a parcel with 3 boxes of mios and 3 boxes of reservoirs...

    Ratios when eating less carbs

My ratios for breakfast, lunch and dinner normally work quite well as long as I eat enough carbs around 5CPs (50g) - I am trying to cut back and eat less carbs as I really need to lose some weight - so today and last week at work I was only having 1CP at lunch but then my ratios just don't work...

    HELP - advice please

Looking for some advice. I am in the middle of a DAFNE course just now - and when working out my carbs this evening I stupidly worked it on grams rather than CP's. As soon as I injected and thought to myself I've NEVER injected this much insulin before and realised what I had done. So now I...

How low before you need help?

About a month or so ago my consultant changed me over to basal/bolus so I'm still getting used to it. I'm really happy that they've taken me off the mixed insulin which didn't work so well for me. I will get to go on DAFNE in a few months - I could have been on one now but it's a course that...

    LADA or just type 1

I was diagnosed with LADA in May 2012 (at 50 and overweight), I went to GP, hospital and injecting insulin the next day. I did stop insulin for about 2 months as they said I was in the honeymoon period - but it didn't last long. Since then my insulin requirements have risen and risen. I am...

    Honeymoon is over :-(

Feeling really down tonight. My BGL has been slowly creeping up over the last month or so no matter what and today I have had 2 readings of over 16. So it's on the phone to the DSN first thing tomorrow and I expect I will be on insulin more or less straight away. I was put on insulin when I was...

    A few questions

Recently went for my first consultant check - had a list of questions which I asked but have now got more and it's 6 months until I go back! Can I have both type 1.5 and type 2? They say I probably have LADA as I was diagnosed with BGL of 33 and ketones. They also did some tests and I have...

    diet Coke?

Tonight I was at the gym and when I got there I discovered that my dear daughter had pinched my headphones from my gym bag, so I had to listen to what was going on round about me. One of the instructors was inducting (?) two women who were both fairly overweight and the discussion got on to...

    Eating Out - Indian Food

So I have now had diabetes for 7 weeks. After reading lots of posts I have been trying to reduce the amount of carbs that I eat - most days now it's probably between 60 -100g per day. For the first few weeks I didn't feel great and didn't want to go out anyway, and since then have been to a...

    Obsessed with food and numbers.

Tomorrow will be four weeks since I was diagnosed. It started as probably type 2 , then went to definately type 1 and now I have a diagnosis of LADA. I started off by injecting insulin 2x a day but have now been taken off insulin and put onto byetta and metformin. I am always on the internet...

    Newly diagnosed

Last weekend everything was normal. On Saturday I started feeling a bit ill. On Sunday I felt worse had to drink pints of water, vision became blurry. Manged to get a GP appointment for Weds. She tested my urine and said I was very dehydrated and she thought I might have diabetes. She took...
