Jasperville saying Hi.......ups and downs this year

Thanks, I agree I am addicted to sugar. Just read an amazing chapter in a new book....................."Diabetes unpacked" from the Noakes foundation. Includes chapters from Tim Noakes, Jason Fung etc, but also Robert Cywes, a bariatric surgeon believe it or not, with a brilliant chapter on...

Jasperville saying Hi.......ups and downs this year

Hi folks, I posted a lot about 12 months ago. I have been type 2 for 20 years, diagnosed age 32, resisted several attempts by doctors to put me on insulin over the years. 20 stone at diagnosis, and now 15 stone (two steps forward one step back for many years). I've done Atkins and other low...

Nature valley protein bars..........anyone else tried them?

Just discovered these in Sainsbury's - peanut based, mainly sweetened with chicory (FOS/inulin). Approx 35g fat, 30g protein, 20-25g carbs per 100grams, so strictly speaking not very low carb. However, I've had 3 today and they haven't spiked me much. Worth considering as a treat. Absolutely...

    Perfect World Ice Cream

Is it erythritol/xylitol (perfectly fine with me), or maltitol (evil)?

    Perfect World Ice Cream

I really enjoy co-yo ice creams, but can only get in health food shops, not mainstream supermarkets. Delicious, and 6 or 7 grams of carbs per 100g. I agree perfect world is too high.

Mega carb binge yesterday - need to offload - still VERY diabetic

Hi folks, this forum is an inspiration, but sometimes I am jealous of how effortless LCHF seems to be for some people, and how much they enjoy low carbing. It doesn't matter how low I go with my carbs, whether I am fasting etc, I always have a psychological craving for chocolate, bread, cake...

Lidl High Protein Low Carb Rolls

My nearest Lidl switched to the smaller rolls about 3 weeks ago..............about 60% of the size of the original ones, but one filled with butter, mayo ham or cheese is still a filling lunch. The big ones had 11 grams of carbs I think, so I guess the new smaller ones are about 7 grams of carbs.

Amazon low carb tortillas - are they ok?

Various websites suggest carbzone products tend to spike people. I swear by Josephs products, either low carb pitas or tortillas.....................really don't spike me. Can get on Amazon, or the best website for all low carb products in my opinion, which is Avidlite - excellent service. I...

    Protein fat and carbs

It is only in the USA that they regard fibre as a carb. Generally, on this website, reference to grams of carbs is excluding fibre, as fibre has no effect on blood glucose. Most people who low carb seem to aim for less than 50 grams of carbs per day. I also do this, but struggle some days...

    Ketosis and soy milk

Doing brilliantly bulkbiker.................let us know if the curry spikes you less than it would have done before the fast. Hopefully, as your insulin levels will have been so low for a week, your tissues will now be screaming for carbs, and handle them effortlessly.

    Interesting article

New reasons to fast just keep cropping up don't they. I'm trying hard to fully embed it in my life now. Miss breakfast most days. managed 36 hours at the weekend with just 300-400 calories of low carb snacks.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

B: Nothing, trying to fast L: held out until 3pm, had half Lidl high protein roll, a small Josephs low carb Pita, with cold beef, a boiled egg and a stick of cheese. Carb cravings...............pinched 5 shortbread biscuits from the office next door. Tea: Intense carb cravings on drive home...

    I Hate Greens

Not bad, I'm pretty neutral about them really. I think that for most people, veg are OK because they are mainly water, so not much effect on blood sugars. Not convinced they have much nutrition that can't be got elsewhere. But I do have an inherent anti-veg bias - apart from potatoes, I just...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Weird couple of days..................trying hard to fast for longer periods................ yesterday, nothing for breakfast/lunch, tried to go until dinner, but had a total pigout on biscuits at work at 4pm............had about 12 shortbread fingers, probably 150g of carbs. BS on libre went...

    Alpha Lipoic Acid

I've taken it in big doses for 6 months, as is licensed for peripheral neuropathy in Germany (and they usually get things right). I take 600mg twice a day. There has been a definite reduction in tingling/numbness in my hands and toes. Obviously this could be because my diabetic control is better...
