10 portions daily of fruit and veg according to radio

Are we consider a portion a half cup or cup? These too vary for recommendations.
I eat a lettuce wrap in the morning with avocado. Or celery sticks with it
Lunch is more avocado chopped celery scallion and radish
Dinner is a handful of steamed veg like Brussels sprouts beans bok choy asparagus mushroom and a salad. Some with every meal but not a lot at once. Snacks can be raw celery bok choy avoacado

The only fruit I eat is avocado and red wine. ( switched that to vodka recently)

Yep, I have 10 most days. Prob 5/7 days...

There was a tv programme a long while back that compared vitamins and minerals in veg now, compared to 1914.... it is so low now.... dire... to get the vits and minerals we do need to eat all colours of the rainbow... every day.

I know someone that got OD with potassium though from eating a banana a day!!

Its a variety of veg thats best... not fruits... lots of wonderful veg to eat.

We had smoothie for breakfast. I had a pancake with 1/4 banana. Now tea will be courgette, celeriac, aubergine. Bnut squash and broccoli.
And the next 5 days as we will be making our veg in to a curry tomorrow..
Tomorrow will also have cauli rice..

My food does fit on a small tea plate though!! So not a lot of anything...

@Bluetit1802 I have never heard of fruit doing that. Will have to look it up. How much fruit would cause a fatty liver and what type?

There are dozens of articles and research papers on Google. It is very well documented. It isn't any particular type of fruit - it is the fructose that all fruits have.

I hate bl**dy veg. Broccoli is gruesome and spinach is sewage!! I have to hide the **** stuff in soup to take any veg in at all. I feel like I'm 4 and being very naughty lol

I have stated on another thread that my endocrinologist has said seven veg and three fruit should be the balance. I try and fail miserably even though I have a salad everyday!

This review and recommendation is for fit and healthy people who don't have a metabolic condition!

For a diabetic to eat ten portions of fruit is like putting petrol on a fire!

I am similar. I have greens with a Sunday roast, obviously only once a week. Otherwise it is peas and masses of mushrooms (plus very small portions of spuds but they don't count anyway), and for fruit it is daily tomatoes and some berries. I have survived 69 years this way and my digestive system has never had any issues nor have I any vitamin or mineral deficiencies. I will follow the advice of the President of WHO and eat veg to my taste buds. The 5 a day was a made up plucked from the air number.

After I was diagnosed I looked at lots of diets and read as much as I could. I read that the 5 portions was devised as 400g was what was suggested and so 5 portions of 80g. As at that time I was weighing all my food I was almost up to 800g of mostly veg and some fruit. I would think I'm now about 7 or 8 portions a day.

My 6 yr old grandson gets a broccoli head from Santa every Christmas in his stocking, he loves it. I love spinach! But put a piece of cauli in front of me and I gag!

I used to have at least 2 or 4 bananas a day...... then my diabetic nurse spoke to me! I had no idea about potassium overload! I loved banana and a whole chocolate flake in a roll! I would love to have one now, but I'm being a good girl :)

I am not sure 5
Bananas are
Too much pottassium most People get too little

Too much fruit sugar for a diabetic But pottassium hmmmm

I love raw veg, eat it every day, sugar snap peas, pepper, carrot, cauliflower and others, love salad too, the list could be endless. The taste and texture is so much different to cooked veg, soups and casseroles are delicious meal's and you could add what you wanted.
