I recently went to my diabetes doctor at the OCDEM (Oxford Centre of Diabetes) to be told I should be eating roughly 300g of carbs per meal and inject 15 mins before each meal. I then spoke to the nurses and doctors I work with at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and they disagreed saying it's more a priority to eat healthily and restrict carbs by eating high fibre foods low carb vegetables lean protein and healthy fats. Any thoughts ?

300g of carbs would be around 1200 calories. 3 meals 3600 calories, before any protein or fats.
I too disagree. Maybe you misheard him.

I dont think I could ever physically get 300g carbs in at one sitting!

Per meal? The recommended maximum allowance of carbs in America is 325g per day. That's for people who don't have diabetes, and who are on high-calorie diets. You must need quite large countermanding doses of insulin.

I think you misheard.

No apparently it's new BHS guidelines to help with cognitive health
I know BHS stands for British horse society so can't imagine you have been likened to a horse so what else does BHS stand for?

Like everyone else I suspect you have misheard the amount of carbs 300 per meal is ridicules.

I think, if it were me, that I'd give them a ring to double check that number - it doesn't seem likely!

I agree with your team at the John Radcliffe - their recommendation is exactly how I control my T2

Either you misheard or the doctor made an error. Maybe he mumbled.
That is an almost impossible amount to eat. That is in no way a healthy diet - for anyone.

I’m in Oxford, so far I’ve just seen my GP regarding my Diabetes, but forewarned is forarmed if I ever do get referred to OCDEM!

More likely to be BHS... cognitive health... with Alzheimers now being called Type 3 diabetes I doubt it would help with that.
I really hope you misheard otherwise a case for malpractice?

@Nicksimmo - I agree with the others that 300gr per meal may have been misheard or the doc had a bit of a momentary brain fade.

Your thread has been marked as Type 1.5, but your profile says you are T2?

Could it have been 300g a day divided between 3 meals?
i couldn't do that personally, but since you are on insulin, it could be doable, for some people...
