...and scoring 4.1 on my tee2

Now, I did avoid the roasters, mash and stuffing..but a bit worried cos normally on 4.5 to 5.8 when well controlled

Still 2*metformin is a better choice than Xmas pud any day !

Maybe the red wine helped.

Merry X mas

Don't tell anyone...but the meters are not as accurate as they seem. I take any reading g in 4.x to 5.x as good (for me on my low carb diet) But there isn't really the 1/10 accuracy that the meters portray.

Still I reckon close to the nearest 0.5. Give or take

Meters have to meet a standard which says the accuracy is +/- 15%. If you use the same meter all the time then you are able to compare readings rather than worry too much about absolute accuracy.

It was a doctor where I worked who told me that alcohol drops your blood sugar, and I felt oblidged to test that theory to destruction in my younger years - so im pretty sure the red wine was a major player in your lower BS. Not the best way to manage blood sugars, but probably by far the most fun!

It seems like a few people are having some great readings after taking their 'medicine'. I am teetotal but am seriously thinking of red wine as a curative (seriously, Kendrick says if you don't drink then start drinking!).
So, with this in mind I request all members who are of legal age to drink red wine and tell me their findings, strictly in the name of science though!

Sorry I don’t drink and even in my drinking days I didn’t like red wine. I’ll therefore have to abstaine from your research, sorry! My average blood sugar today is 6.1 so far, higher than normal but aside from a couple of Xmas treats I am running higher since an op on one foot and a steroid injection in the other foot on Friday :banghead:

Well I was high at 7.2, had a roast dinner including potatoes, a glass of wine, a bowl of trifle and cream, a walk, and am down to 5. If that's the effects of the red wine then I'd better have another glass!

I started well today at 5.4 but after a liver dump before breakfast it’s been going up all day, now in double figures, grrrrr. I didn’t even eat much bad stuff but clearly potatoes are intolerable in even tiny amounts, I had half a one.
Fasting for 24 hrs now and hope to return to normal

Alcohol is known to lower BG's in the very short term. IMHO all livers are Male, even those that reside in females, reason being, the liver seems to only be able to deal with one thing at a time. On detecting alcohol your liver is so busy dealing with a potential alcohol poisoning that it forgets to produce glycogen :D

I do think red wine has helped keep my levels down today. I was 4.5 mid evening so I had a slice of chocolate yule log - not low carb - probably a bad effect of red wine leading me astray.

It's all good Rachox. You can go in the Control Group :) Merry Christmas, lass.

yeah. agreed. not good long term.

I read woman who are t-total increase their risk of being T2 diabetic by 40% !

Well, it's too late now, I am well and truly T2. No use crying over spilled milk. :)

My BG goes lower if I drink red wine, but alcohol can give a false low reading

I had two small roast potatoes, Roasted Celeriac few carrots, sprouts broccoli two Yorkshire puds pigs in blankets turkey and some gravy. My level was after 90 mins 6.1 I just had the one meal no Christmas pud or mince pie. Been feeling really poorly today. Sore throat and awful cough, generally feeling unwell

i was pretty good yesterday, the only thing i ate which i shouldn't have was some dried fruit, plus i snacked through the day, rather than observing my normal strict no-eating between meals routine. decided just to enjoy myself and not to bother with testing my levels for a couple of days, i'll start again in a day or two and fast if they've gone up noticeably - but i had two whiskies before going to bed last night, just to be on the safe side ... :dead::)
