"A new you in 42"

30 minute brisk walk around lunchtime and 10 minutes on rower an hour after dinner today.

Managed to get out for a run yesterday - might have to settle for a couple of walks today though - my legs are still a bit tired after a pretty active weekend!
Great we're half way already - does anyone feel that exercise has already become more part of their daily routine? Almost new you in twenty two?:D

I woke up earlier today - yay! So I was walking at 4.20 this morning....ah, that's better, only met one person today. The ironing 30+ mins will be done today too, because my son needs to pack for Brazil soon. So that's today sorted

Yes!

Before we started I was just beginning to emerge from recuperation mode, and doing very little. Gradually I am moving towards the more active mode I used to be in over two years ago. At the beginning I was managing about 10 minutes gentle splashing in the swimming pool, twice a week, and was not very enthusiastic. Now I am in the pool 5 times a week for at least 40 minutes. Have increased speed and distance, and put in 2 or 3 intense, hour long, aquafit classes, which I am going to increase to 4 or 5 aquafit sessions a week over the next couple of weeks. I have renewed my lapsed membership at the sport centre, and changed my diet. Also, I have started to learn,at home, Pilates exercises, not brave enough to go to a class yet. Put more moving about generally into my daily routine.

All thanks to Jamrox et al. Thanks guys.

Well, I'll have to change my exercise tomorrow, dr declares I'm over the lung infection and asthma..hope he's right! I have one month of low carbing, exercise and metformin, then full blood and everything tests. Sensible as cortisone makes everything weird.
So glad to give up coughing as an activity!
Great dr who is all for low carbing, and regular testing, and isn't full of doom and gloom, don't see dietitian or nurses here, go straight to local dr and then all the other tests as needed. Walking a lot, stepping a little, breathing freely, which is wonderful!
Went to main web site....nooooooo......depressed in five seconds. Here I am, and here I stay. :)

Good for you Gillie Ruth
Cortisone is horrible, but effective stuff, always puffs me up like a marshmallow.
I guess exercise is difficult for you if the weather is hot and humid. What exercise will you be doing?

I should add that I avoided a cheese incident last night, which I attribute to my determination not to waver. In no way encouraged by the OP!
Oh, and the fact that I was too exhausted by all the exercise, for which I do owe a debt of gratitude to the OP.

A few weeks ago, I would have claimed walking round the shops food shopping as my exercise, because it was about all I could do, and I was desperate to find something that would count. I even tried to claim knitting as my exercise.

I have gradually increased activities so no longer need to include the shopping, but I did walk around the shops for 2 x20 minute sessions today.

Today I also learned a valuable lesson. If I try to increase my exercise too quickly I will set myself back and become demoralised. Walking is never going to be my thing. I was in pain after walking around the shops. I ignored that and went to the pool. Did 20 minutes fast swimming, then joined in the aquafit. Fast cardio workout, but within 10 minutes I was wheezing, and went on to an asthma attack. Sat out for 15 minutes, with my inhaler, then got back in for 5 minutes gentle swim, then knew I had to stop. So now I am going to reassess, and rethink the speed with which I get back to the exercise I used to be able to do. It is two years since I was able to exercise with the frequency and intensity I want to get back to. What an idiot I am to try to get back to that in a couple of weeks. I am going to have to accept I am getting older, I have disabling health conditions, and my body has had the battering of two surgical operations.

Still managed more than 30 minutes though.

Pipp just take your time and go at your own pace. I read what some people have done on here and think I've just done 30 minutes most days- but that's 30 minutes more than I was doing pre-diagnosis. You have to balance your other health conditions alongside doing what helps your diabetes. I have fibromyalgia as well as currently severe panic disorder so sometimes I have to break the exercise down into as little as five minute slots. It's all about finding what works and is sustainable for you- no point in doing two hours one day if you are bedridden for a fortnight afterwards! You are doing your best and that's more than enough.
