I’m SO frustrated!!! Baby is measuring massive (around 5lb) at 31 weeks! My Hba1c has been brilliant throughout my pregnancy and even before conception!! The highest it has been is 5.8% or around 40! Why is this happening!! I can’t physically do any more to control my bloods and the diabetes centre say they’re great. having a breakdown with frustration!!!

My eldest son was 11lb 1oz at 38 weeks, Hba1c was between 6.5% and 7.2%!!!

Some big babies are hereditary. No matter how good your bgs.

Ps. Scan is just a guide, not perfect.
My 2 babies last scan couldn't detect their legs. Really?
Its just a guide. Don't take as gospel but nhs rely on them as nothing else.

Hi @Tweety88 I agree with @ickihun it's simply down to genetics and outside of the t1 boundaries, also they are not accurate, you are doing all you can and that's the best you can do, so try and relax.

I'm a man and obviously know nothing about this sort of thing. I just thought T1 mums to be just had bigger babies generally anyway regardless of sugar control, although I can see how keeping as close to the 'norm' as possible might mitigate it a bit.

Best of luck...........C-Section? or naturally? :wideyed:

My non diabetic cousin had 2 x 10lb babies and shes only just over 5ft. Sometimes it's just genetics!

I had 8lb, 9lb and 9.5lb babies and I was not even pre-diabetic at the time. Sometimes babies are just bigger.

Thank you all! Just few frustrated and judged by the obgyn like I wasn’t looking after my bloods! I got my libre our to show him and he was like standing over my shoulder like I could have somehow fiddled it!

My mums diabetes isn’t and wasn’t half as well controlled as mine and I was 7 lb 10! Maybe I just cook em big!!!

@slip thankfully I’m booked in for a c section!!! 6 weeks 6 days to go!!!

Sounds like your bg control is pretty tight and really cant do better! Don't want to go hypo either. :)
Genetics and ethnicity plays a big role in the average baby size through pregnancy.
My wife is a slender south French and I am this brute Viking.
Result: C-sections booked already 3 months in advance for all our kids.
It costs quite some additional in flowers and chocolates...

Keep the faith and fingers crossed !

That says it all. That's not perfect but it's not bad - I think you just make big babies, irrespective of diabetes. :)

Scan estimates of weight are to be utterly ignored. They are as unreliable as looking at your bump and guessing.
