Balancing a Low Carb Diet with a Low Oxylate Diet - Looking After the Kidneys

The question is in the title. Is it possible to keep the kidneys healthy on a low carb / high protein diet?
Depends.
If your kidneys are perfectly healthy there is nothing wrong with a higher protein diet.
If you have some type of kidney disease this could be different.

A low oxalate diet is sometimes advised when dealing with kidney stones (depending on the type of stones) and as far as I know high protein is not an issue in this diet.

The problem seems to be that damage to the kidneys occurs once T2 diabetes occurs. So potentially as a T2 the kidneys may already be damaged?

Have you been told that your tests show any kidney damage? If not then I wouldn’t worry

I’ve had slightly leaky kidneys since diagnosis 14 years ago, but they’ve always been stable and I do a keto diet. I asked a couple of times over the years do I need to reduce protein in my diet and have been told no need to change anything. I am on a low blood pressure tablet even though my blood pressure has never been out of range, apparently the best way to help your kidneys is to keep your blood pressure down

Low oxalate and low carb do fine together. You might want to look into the carnivore diet, even: no oxalates at all in that, nor carbs. That actually gave me kidney stones (ureum stones, not calcium-oxilate ones, are my problem), so it could well work miracles for both your blood sugars and your kidneys. Just remember to, whatever type of stone you have, drink enough. Flush out as much as you can, unless you suspect a blockage.

PS: I take it you're not just assuming "probably oxalate stones" because they're more prevalent. Yours did get tested for type?

I have just had two calcium oxylate stones removed. I want to try and avoid them in future
