Be honest, how -are- you doing?

Not great. I've had to give up eating. It's the only way to vaguely keep my blood sugars predictable. I'm down to three slices of toast a day (maximum) - one for each meal - and often I don't have the lunch one so only have two. I've lost two stone in the last six months and now have a bmi of under 17.
I can either eat and have erratic blood sugars or I can stave and have reasonable blood sugars. Not great either way but at least I hopefully won't go blind or lose a foot this way.
I'm T2 so I don't know much about T1 but isn't there a dn or diabetes clinic where you can go for help and advice? Surely it's not good for you to only be eating 2 slices of toast and day. Sending you a hug x

I'm using lower carb bread so it works out that even if I eat three slices it's less than 50g carb a day and only two slices is sbout 30g a day.
I just know where I am with it. If I eat only that generally my sugars are between 5 and 8 all the time. Anything else seems to complicate matters. I am hardly a DAFNE success story! I used to be able to go out for meals etc but I cannot anymore. We had to go to s family meal at the weekend but I couldn't eat anything, had to watch everyone else eat their delicious looking food which was depressing.
I find most restaurants have at least a few very low GI meals on the menu, even if it means having to leave a carb-y side on the plate (or give it away!).
If I had such bad sensitivity, I'd avoid even "low-carb" bread like the plague and stick to omlettes, chicken soup, salads, fish etc. just to get a nutritional mix.

Type 1 physically im doing ok with bg somewhere near, but mentally would like to be able to ask for help

Far be it from me to give advice as I’ve been in my own dark place wobble for a couple of weeks.. but how about asking for help on the forum..? I did and was able to vent (even have a cry whilst posting!) and the positive responses lifted me so I could reevaluate where I was. Talking here helped me.. :)

Oh no, I can never forget I’ve got diabetes. However after 43 odd years I am a little relaxed about it, to the point that most people I know forget that I am Type 1 or say I don’t look like one!
This made me giggle. What does a type1 look like? Do we all look the same? If you made a line up of type1 people and then put a non-diabetic in amongst them, would we be able to pick them out?

How am I doing?? Fineish (if that's a word) working on getting my blood's in range. Have some issues with my eye's (which is worrying) but I'm always trying to be positive, after 23yrs you have to be. Healing going well with cataract surgery, but I find that when your sugars aren't doing what you want, at all, you need to just carry on. Unfortunately my diabetes isn't going away so as a sign has said carry on regardless. Thank you for listening
Fineish is a word it just looks funny. I know what you mean. ..... sometimes it's a pain to push to remain positive so well done you on 23 years. Onwards and downwards, struggle against the tide.

Until now, I've managed to keep it to 5s and 6s. Perhaps I'm taking the '4-7' target range too much to heart. I assumed it to mean "aim for 5.5".
The diabetic nurse today also said my last A1C result of 40 was "a bit too low", which pricked my smug-bubble (having got it down from 152 in November). I thought that was supposed to be about right?
I'm not a nurse, nor a doctor nor a consultant but on my little chart 40 is "normal". Patch up and reinflate, I think you're doing magic.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I've had a fever all night, my BG was 8.9 when I tested ealier and I've lost mobility in my left arm, which is in agony from the pneumococcal jab. Never had that with a jab before :(
It was all going so well.

Thanks.

You'll get better, don't worry

Ummm bread. It's the thing I miss the most. It seems unfair that I can eat butter but it's the crusty fresh loaf that's missing.
Bread is a no go for me as it spikes me really bad.

But I've found that Burgen bread doesnt spike as much and im back down to normal levels within 2 hours. I eat about 4 loaves worth a week

I think they worry that keeping a constant low is going to affect your hypo awareness.

I was doing quite well until I miscounted on a new half unit pen - 4 instead of 8 Levemir. Woke at 18 and wondered why. Thankful that that Novo Echo has a function that lets you see the last dose. What a daft thing to do! Ah well, downward and onward!
I was wondering where you get the echo gadget from? I am ok if have my routine - one novo pen in one place - the other in another. But if I'm out or on holiday I get really thrown. I had a near panic attack in a toilet because I was convinced I had injected 7 units of novo rapid instead of back ground levemir - I hadn't but it was traumatic

This condition takes over your life. I am type 2 medication and insulin. Have kept my sugar levels at a reasonable standard lately but you have to work at it. God knows how you type 1 deal with this I know (No Choice). I have great admiration to you all.

Just ask your diabetic specialist or GP. I was on prefilled pens and mentioned to my practice DSN the other week about the plastic waste. She dug a couple of Novo Echo boxes out of her cupboard and changed my prescription. Told me the NovoNordisk rep always gives her one or two, but they can be ordered on prescription.

Oh plastic waste is such a guilt! I will ask thank you

Good evening everyone!

So, after my recent DKA, a doctor told me:

"I'm not going to shout at you. Be honest with me"

How are you all? Coping? Testing and injecting as you should be? Eating a little too much when low?

Let it out, have a vent. i'd love to hear from you all; struggling or not!
:happy::***:
Hi diabetic 24 yrs (type 1) take novorapid & lantus & metformin yrs ago but had to come off it. Recently was put back on it I don't like it. I'm having really bad stomach pains & headaches & feeling awful.
Strangething is that my BS have raised quite rapidly and I carb count. Finally after being fobbed off at Dr's had blood tests done & have now been summonsed to DN. Anyway 5days ago I had enough of feeling awful and I stopped taking the metformin (day before Easter) probably shouldn't have done But my bloods have dropped to 6-8mmol no more stomach pains, no headaches for 3 days, I feel so much better & got more energy. I no I have a lot of health issues osteoarthritis in spine, angina to name a few but I can't believe how much better without metformin.
I will probably get a telling off tomorrow but the way I feel I don't care its my body
Wonder if anyone else has had this problem
Nanaclaire

been type 1 for almost 10 years now, from what a doctor told me a few years ago i wont make it too the age of 30 (im 27 this year) and judging from my current health situation the doc is probably right about it. so physically and mentally im not doing great. due to some recent developments at home i no longer have a safe, secure environment or anyone to rely on when i need it. has been a fun start to this year at least
