Good information

Everyone is telling you how to NOT catch #coronavirus, but NO ONE is saying what to do if you get it. Thanks to this nurse in the UK for putting this guide together:

Finally, some sensible advice. From a GP Nurse in the UK.

What I have seen a lot of are recommendations for how to try to avoid getting coronavirus in the first place:

• good hand washing

• personal hygiene

• social distancing

but what I have NOT seen a lot of is advice for what happens if you actually get it, which many of us will.

So as your friendly neighborhood Nurse let me make some suggestions:

If you get Covid-19

You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug, like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it might come your way!

Things to start doing now:

Get 20 minutes sun on your entire body (or as much as possible) every day. This will dramatically increase your Vitamin D levels, which improves your immune system.

If affordable take a good general supplement, plus 2000mg Vit C a day. Include ZINC, SELENIUM & GLUTATHIONE.

Scott’s Emulsion is a great general tonic (cod liver oil)

Things you should actually buy ahead of time:

*Kleenex*

*Paracetamol*

*Cough medicine* of choice (check the label and make sure you're not doubling up on Paracetamol)

*Zinc lozenges*

*Throat spray* like Andolex or TCP

*Honey and lemon* can work just as well!

*Vicks* vaporub for your chest is also a great suggestion.

*A humidifier* would be a good thing to buy and use in your room when you go to bed overnight. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam)

*If you have a history of asthma* and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if necessary.

*Meals* This is also a good time to meal prep: make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand.

*Hydrate* hydrate, hydrate! Stock up on whatever your favorite clear fluids are to drink, though tap water is fine you may appreciate some variety!

*For symptom management* and a fever over 38°c take Paracetamol rather than Ibuprofen.

*Rest lots* You should not be leaving your house! Even if you are feeling better you may will still be infectious for fourteen days and older people and those with existing health conditions should be avoided!

*Wear gloves and a mask* to avoid contaminating others in your house

*Isolate* in your bedroom if not living alone, ask friends and family to leave supplies outside to avoid contact.

*Sanitize* your bed linen and clothes frequently by washing and clean your bathroom with recommended sanitizers.

*You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL unless* you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high (over 39°C) and unmanaged with meds.

90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds.

If you are worried or in distress or feel your symptoms are getting worse:

*Pre-existing risks* If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your Doctor or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick.

*Children* One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus, they usually bounce back in a few days (but they will still be infectious) Just use pediatric dosing .

*Be calm and prepare rationally* and everything will be fine. This is to inform us all that the pH for corona virus varies from 5.5 to 8.5.

All we need to do, to beat corona virus, we need to take more of an alkaline foods that are above the above pH level of the Virus.

Some of which are:

*Lemon - 9.9pH*

*Lime - 8.2pH*

*Avocado - 15.6pH*

*Garlic - 13.2pH*

*Mango - 8.7pH*

*Tangerine - 8.5pH*

*Pineapple - 12.7pH*

*Dandelion - 22.7pH*

*Orange - 9.2pH*

How do you know you have coronavirus

1. Itching in the throat

2. Dry throat

3. Dry cough

4. High temperature

5. Shortness of breathing

6. Loss of sense of taste & smell

7. Covid toes - toes turning blue/black

So when you notice these things, quickly take warm water with lemon and drink.

Do not keep this information to yourself only. Pass it to all your family and friends.

Or if you're T1 and you can't control your bgs/ketones???

Great guide though, and as a T1 I wouldn't trust a hospital to handle my diabetes unless I was in intensive care...

A high temperature is one of the ways the body's immune system fights a virus. I don't take anything to bring my temperature down unless it threatens to go above 40 c , which it never has. I have known this for 25+ years. In view of the fact that current official dietary advice is so outdated, I guess it will take another 50 years before the medical profession catch up. Yes use paracetamol if absolutely necessary but give nature a chance first. It seems silly to bolster the immune system with vitamins only to stop it working with drugs.

Does a virus have a pH value? Does eating acidic foods alter the pH of your blood? Does a nurse have an answer to treating the virus that has evaded the world's medical profession?

"Be calm and behave rationally and everything will be fine" That's a great comfort to relatives and friends of the 50,000+ who have died, and the thousands with long Covid.

My advice would be ...
If you can afford it buy a thermometer, BP monitor, finger monitor to measure heart rate and oxygen levels and if diabetic, a BG monitor with plenty of test strips.
My BP was very high when I had the virus, unfortunately I didn't have a monitor for my oxygen levels back then.
If you know the effect the virus is having on you then you can do something about it.

Oh and don't bother with the vapour rub for the chest, when your lungs and airways are so dry they hurt the last thing you need is a decongestant.

But what about the relatives and friends of the other 450,000 who have also died so far this year?
They seem to be quite forgotten in all of this. And the extra deaths that will likely come about through undiagnosed diseases, non attendance at hospitals, suicides etc.
While everyone is concentrating on the deaths of the (mainly) very old with co-morbidities the rest of the population aren't getting a service from the NHS in many areas. This may well end up killing far more.

For most people who get it "be calm and behave rationally" is exactly what should happen. They will be fine.
Hard to do in the current climate of fear engineered by our govt but essential all the same.

I took the quote from the nurse to mean be calm when you can't breathe because you already have the virus.

I agree with you about the unnecessary deaths from media led panic.

Very strong bases have a pH of 14, which will burn a hole in your skin.

As pH is a measure of H+ ions on a -log scale it is possible to be greater than 14.....

I have never heard of anything greater than 14.

So 22.7 from a dandelion is going some.......

I fully agree with you. Of course there are many ill people all over the world including those who DID get Covid and who were seriously affected and DID die. The 'keep calm' advice is good advice to anyone of course but it will hardly make ANY difference as to whether you are one of the lucky ones (most people, who survive) or one of the unlucky ones who don't. I doubt very many of us would catch it and sit there saying oh, well, calm, calm, it'll all be fine', unless maybe we were a 20 year old with no underlying conditions. x

Quite a wide range of things. I do lemon, lime, garlic and occasional avocados as a matter of course. I am wary of suppressing symptoms unless chronic, as the inflammatory reaction is part of the healing process - not for all, I suppose it depends on pain thresholds and tolerance.

I believe trying to be Covid Secure within yourself, is similar to my thoughts on managing diabetes and project management. By this I no longer focus on diabetes, but take a more holistic view to health around lifestyle and specifically kidney and liver health (what I think of as the real heart and brain). Prevention cannot cure, but it must be better to have tip top 1st line defences, healthy alert cells and an appropriate response to an invader. Apparently within 21 days it is possible to improve ones basic status without being Andy Murray (other sports people are available :joyful:)

By project management principals, I mean understanding the variables, mitigating the risks and controlling as best as possible exceptions. By looking at the least affected, I have a simplified view of trying to imitate the defenses that cohort has; it appears to me that immunity response / status of the bodily functionality are driving factors. I have listened (audible) "The 21 Day Immunity Plan" by Aseem Malhotra, and hopefully "The Immunity Fix" by James DiNicolantonio and Siim Land is available in paperback and kindle:

if you get corona virus severely enough to need all this stuff, there wont be the energy to focus on anything but breathing, and you will be exhausted,

(7 months of long covid and currently in another relapse)
