Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

I know, thank you both. All will be well very soon. It's just so frustrating at times. Must not post when I am doubting myself. Must remember that I am doing so well with carbs and calories. BG 25.1 now and haven't eaten anything else, so I know it's not me.

Exactly, you know it's not you! Remember that.

Post when you want to post Scottie, if you want to post in moments of doubt, then do so, this is your thread, after all. We're here to support you when you need it. Don't forget that by starting this thread you are helping others who may be going through the same thing but who don't yet have the courage to post for themselves. :)

Thank you Zand.

Lowest BG result today has been 17.1, but I am not going to dwell too much on my results until I get my new tablets/go to the DCC.

Have had 454 calories and 17g carbs. Am going to try and find something to eat, though due to personal problems I have not felt like eating today. I had one slice of toast today (Warburtons wholemeal), the first in many weeks and it did not spike me. In fact my BG was lower 2 hours post food.

Your BG was probably lower at 2 hours because your body is in starvation mode and it thought you were going to feed it.......

Whilst I can appreciate you don't know which way to turn, you should be trying to eat regularly, even if in modest quantities.

Hi Scottie,

I know when I first started testing, my bloods they were all over the place, especially as a I wasn't sure what to eat and when to eat it. As I started to LCHF I found I sometimes didn't feel like eating but my BS were up and down. So I decided to eat 3 meals a day (whether I am hungry or not) - I eat them at the same time everyday where possible, and after about 6 weeks I started to see them come down and stay down. Remember your body is like a machine, you need to treat it right in order to get it working right. So whilst the BS numbers are important, it is equally important to get yourself into a regular routine, one that works for your body.

This may mean that you might have to change the times of when you eat your meals, ie I used to eat my breakfast at around 08:30 when I got to work - but my liver hated this and used to dump glucose into my body so the my BS got higher and higher until I ate. Now I eat my breakfast 30 minutes after I get up and this way I stop for the most part the liver dump. For me this means that I eat my breakfast (Mon/Fri) in the car on the way to work....not ideal really as it limits me to what I can eat. But and its a big but, after doing this for a month or so - I've started to see a great improvement in my fasting results.

Diabetes is an insane disease, everybody is affected by it in different ways. So keep doing whats best for you, try not to worry too much and dont compare your results too much with others - as unfortunately our bodies are all different.

From what I am reading your doing great, so well done.

Not doing very well, BG been running in the late teens and low 20's. Am now taking just 160g of Gliclozide and started my Sitagliptin yesterday so maybe it's too soon for a good result with this. Still low carbing but not so much high fating. Not sleeping due to pain, Gabapentin still don't seem to be working despite my dose having been increased to 400mg x 3 daily. Bloods were taken on Wednesday but no results back on Friday, so will be calling on Monday to chase them up. Also will be calling CDC as not heard anything about an appointment. I am desperate for good results and to be seen at CDC, as feeling faint and generally ill all the time isn't nice. I have increased my calorie intake so now eating about 1000-1200 a day and still at under 60g carbs per day. I feel that I have waited long enough for some help, so praying for an appointment soon.

I agree that I may be LADA, as mentioned by Donelley, it's certainly something I need to discuss with whoever I have been referred to. It's now nearly 2 months since I first posted, so these high BG results are not helping my general health in any way.

I also need to ask some questions about insulin, as I am getting confused with all I am reading and still don't fully understand how it works etc. and if it will bring my levels down, if it will help me will lose weight, etc.

I have lost 2lb this week so down from 18.8 to 16.9 from December :) My face feels thinner and my fingers, I have started to notice that my rings are looser.

Hope everybody is well.

Hello scottie, so sorry your still poorly ,the weight loss will help,i feel that it's still a case of getting your meds right tho' scottie, and being diagnosed correctly.(((((hugs))))) to you and your family.

Thank you Clive, the same to you all. How are your kidneys? Improved I hope.

I guess I am just impatient, just seem to have waiting so long.

Thank you Shez. Yes, it's awful feeling rubbish, fed up of it to be honest but hopefully things will calm down once I am seen by the CDC.

How high have your readings been? Also, how are you finding the injections, is lyxumia insulin? Sorry for all the questions, just interested. :shy: Have you found you have lost weight with the injections?

I think everybody has days when it doesn't go too well, so don't be hard on yourself. It's a new day tomorrow :)

That's good, that you are feeling better and also that you don't have to be seen until September. I bet thats a great relief. :)

Hi Scottie
No worries about the questions if you don't ask you don't know as I was always told
My annual blood test came back at 11 the dn then checked my blood 2 hours after 2 crumpets and a cup of t it was 15.6 so you can imagine how high it was gong after a main meal we are now down to between 6 and 10 on a bad day like this weekend lol in the first week I lost 3lb I haven't weighed myself since as I won't have them in the house but my jeans fell down completely on Friday luckily I was at home. I have also gone down 2 clothes sizes so something is working I haven't bought this size in 15 years , before my eldest was born.
The answer to your next question is no it's not insulin but works with other meds to lower sugar levels and no probs with the injections the needle is so thin and I have a lot of padding to put it in so it doesn't hurt, I do have some lovely bruises though! !
Please feel free to ask any questions or just have a natter.

Jeans falling down - that's brilliant, also dropping 2 dress sizes!!! Well done you!!!

Glad to know your BG's have lowered, hopefully with new meds mine will soon. I could do with some of that, I wonder why my GP's are not recommending drugs like this? Also, reassuring that you are managing injections well, I too have a lot of padding so when I am given insulin (hopefully) the needles will just slide right in.

Thanks for sharing Shez, how long were your BG's high before you were given this medication?

BG before dinner 28.4!! Eek!!

Am calling surgery tomorrow, this just is not good enough and I've had enough. How long should new medication take to work? 2 days of half dose (160g) of Gliclozide and 100g of Sitagliptin? Still on 2000g Metformin.

Hi Scottie
To be honest not sure probably getting on for 18 months as I missed an annual check due to them changing how they were done the month mine was due !!! But as soon as they had the results I was offered the lyxumia injections I took half does for 2 weeks then full dose after that I did feel sick for a bit and still do occasionally other than that it's been fine
