Please see my response here http://www.bmj.com/content/349/bmj.g4485/rapid-responses In the article they are wondering if its worth telling patients they are pre-diabetic - as you see my experience is that patients appreciate the opportunity to make dietary changes (to cut all sources of sugar) BEFORE they actually become diabetic. I wish now I had said more about low carbing- but I never expected the BMJ to publish it, though the reference is there to the low carb article we wrote this year. They have published the average weight loss my patients achieved over 6 months and the average drop in HbA1c; this was done on the low carb diet

If any of you approve of my letter please 'click to like' as the most popular response gets more publicity and is published in the actual journal.

The pre-diabetes stage must surely be the best time to be informed ? There will be those that may ignore the warning but I would like to think the majority would at least try to make some dietary/lifestyle changes.

Not informing patients of their nearness to a full diabetic diagnosis when there is factual information could be considered lying by omission, surely? Its my health, my body. As a adult, surely I have the right to decide how I manage it?

That some patients might find it a bit scary, or might not take any action is reducing care to the lowest (?)common denominator.

Letter, "Liked" from my iPad. I might still like it when I reread later on my laptop. ;)

Read and 'liked'.
Never got told! No plan! T2, get on with it! DN advised no change in diet. Went on the well plate course. Took it all in and struggled. Till after having a hypo was advised to see Endocrinologist. After 5 years they had it all wrong! Not diabetic at all. Started low carbing after looking at this site 2 years ago. Thanks to specialist and this site, I am better and fitter than for about 20 years and my gliptins are working brilliant! No thanks to my useless surgery!
